I feel like we're being limited in our empathy and love and ability to engage with the world in our narratives. "I overcame my sensory issues to eat in this restaurant" or "I overcame my shame to flap in public" are both cool but there's so much discussion of how a significantly autistic person could look more normal or accept themselves or go out to eat and there's almost zero discussion of how someone like that could take care of anyone or fulfill any ethical duty that goes farther than "Even if you have a disability, you're still required not to annoy people or make them uncomfortable".

It's easy to put on that front of being "perpetually positive" to please others. But sometimes, things just suck and there is nothing that anyone can do about it. And it's okay to acknowledge that.

At the same time, it's also very important to acknowledge those want to help us. This means that they are making efforts. They are showing up and being intentional about seeing and supporting us. That matters. Don't take that for granted.

Every Woman I Have Loved

Is still working out how to love herself. Has a closetful of ghosts and has been to a hundred funerals of the women she used to be. Wonders what wounds her mother carries that she never will never know about. Hopes that the weight of the world doesn't eventually crush her, that she is strong enough to handle it all. Wishes a day will come when she can put it all down, give her aching shoulders a rest. Wants someone to truly see her and not make a feast of her kindness and dreams. Is forever hiding a secret hunger for what calls to her in the dark. Holds a universe inside her, but has been told to make herself smaller despite the paradox. Praise be that universes are not in the business of listening to anyone but themselves. Every woman I have loved has thought about it. The art of disappearing. To be here one day, and the next, like smoke, simply gone.

Beautiful in Vain

A poetry I have written just about seven days ago as part of the five short prose intermission...now so it goes like this. Bare with me because this is the first I have posted something original in over a decade. Here it goes...

Pretty hurts and vanity is the real deal with narcissism is the only emotion t one person can feel

Perfection has long been an everywhere addiction and jealousy, envy, and misery is the three brand new diseases without one singular cure

Depression stabs deeper like a butchered knife so sharp and stainless steel to cuts those emotional wounds open with the effects of low self-esteem hitting a higher nerve amongst the superficially accepted

All the while the true meaning of self love, sadly artificially flavor with toxic messages of fake positivity, slowly sinking a bitter low for the socially rejected

Praying bullshit gimme prayers for a quick fix that was never broken through the thick skins of their bodies nor clouded minds of their brains... but through the emptiness of their lonely friendless hearts

Oh so lonely inside that neither knives, scaples, or needles can satisfy nor heal any pain through anything one person became...was just beautiful in vain.

External happiness lives inside the brokenness of their sad faces, isolated with teardrops to trace

Poor ugly ducklings in desperation wanted to be forever loved wholeheartedly, to bedescribed as immaculate, goregeous, beauteous, but all they ever was living in the exteriority of this cruel bitter Earth was just that... ugliness was all they visualize

How to Be a Better Songwriter in 2022

Great songwriters are not only born; they are made. In this piece, the focus will be to answer the question every songwriter has in mind; how to be a better songwriter. Songwriting is an art that needs to be nourished and fine-tuned to perfection. While some days, it will be easy to wake up and write for hours without stress, it might take a little more hard work to get the lyrical ideas flowing some other days.

You do not have to wait for the inspiration to get you going; here are some tips that will help put your name in the songwriters’ hall of fame.

1. Reward Yourself

There is only so much tough love can do without a mix of positive reinforcement here and there. Celebrate your small wins, even to tell yourself “Well done”. Nobody likes a pompous, but you do not have to boast of your success to reward yourself.

Finished writing a particularly difficult lyric? Pat yourself on the back. If you do not appreciate what you have achieved, you might constantly feel disappointed in yourself. 2. Work With Other Artists, Songwriters, and Lyricists

You might be tempted to always fly solo when writing songs, but collaborating with other songwriters and lyricists has its perks. You can learn a thing or two from people who are more skilled in songwriting than you, exchange ideas on the song structure, and write faster when you write in a group than alone.

It is essential to keep your audience in mind when writing a song and one way to do this is to know the conventional way to write and build upon it.

4. Be Consistent: Jot Down Ideas as It Comes

Ideas can come anytime and anywhere, whether at your favourite coffee shop, in the shower, during a walk in the park, on a drive, or even taking a dump. No idea is yours unless you jot it down. Writing down songs ideas makes you a consistent songwriter. You can use your phone to write down song lyrics as they flow or go traditional with a pen and paper.

Regularly exercising your writing muscle will make you proficient in your songwriting skills. Therefore, you need to constantly hone your skills and not solely depend on your moods and emotions to wax excellent lyrics.

5. Have A Purpose, A Goal and An End in Mind

If you have a clear picture of the rhythm, structure, genre, and the kind of instrument suitable for a song even before you start the process of writing, it will guide you in your songwriting. It helps to know how a piece will end before you begin. Your song does not necessarily need to rhyme; you can go with the flow.

Nevertheless, your collection of ideas should be compiled together to form a solid picture that you can see. It is easy to leave a song half-finished, but if you have a goal in mind, it will give you the discipline to finish what you start.

6. Rest While You Can

Understand that you are human with limits. You need to sleep, eat, and exercise to be able to work the next day. Just because you are flowing, waxing lyrical does not mean you should write for 8 hours straight without resting. Otherwise, you might burn out quickly. Set a schedule and stick with it.

Don’t force yourself to Maybe you are not writing any exceptional piece because you are forcing yourself to write when you are too tired. Be fluid, take a breather and do some fun activities while at it.

Final Thoughts on How to Be a Better Songwriter

Skilled songwriters are consistent and in tune with their inner creativity. Network with other people, ask for unbiased feedback, create unique melodies from old songs, and write every day, even if it is just a line.

However, they also know that while it is important to regularly exercise your writing muscle, learn to take a break and rest.
