"I promise if I was out to get you Rogers you would have already been. I wouldn't have waitied to lead you to my safe house first." Addie sighed as she leaned back in her seat looking over the map they'd gotten from the last gas station stop. For now they were off the grid. Since they could be easily tracked via phones and cell phone towers. Not that it mattered too much to her. She had grown up in a time before cellular phones anyway. "It is secure, has hot water and food. That's better than most safe houses."

Steve's eyes broke their concentration on the road ahead, glancing at the passenger. The idea was to lay low. And the safe house that had been described seemed too good to be true. It wasn't out of distrust, a lot of his friends had become enemies. "You're absolutely sure that this is somewhere no one is going to find us?"

"I appreciate your candor, Mr. Maze. While we've read the statements, I'd like to know what you think about what happened here, if you don't mind me asking. We find that stories differ from person to person. So we like to take a few out in the field statements." Sebastion said as he pulled out a notebook and wrote down the few things the younger man had already mentioned about his life here. He took a look at Addie, who was also stopping to take a few field notes in between taking notes. "Just give a summary of what happened here, please? Anything out of the ordinary that you might remember? Every little bit could help towards the resolution you and this community deserve. Yes actually. My partner and I do more hands-on cases but then there are ones like is as well."
The partner in question had finished her notes and was retaking pictures. She paused to look at the preview of the last one taken and frowned. It was full of afterimages of the people who had once lived here. If she didn't know for sure that the streets were empty except for three of them, she might be a little bit worried. Addie turns and walks back to Sebastian to show him the picture, and the older man's face looks briefly pained. So many lost souls...still lingering in the town with still burning bones.
"When is the fire marshal coming in, by the way? I assume they have to come from the next town over?"
Silent Hill had been a no nothing town. Now that it was off the map it seemed every type of person wanted to take a piece of it for themselves. Austin had tried not to let it bother him, most came with the desire to help, not that anyone could do much. The woman wondered off and Austin's shoulders relaxed. Something about her look felt like she was peering beyond his face. Looking for something deeper. As the man that was with her spoke, Austin waved his hand, "Ain't nothin'. She got a job like you," the sooner they took their pictures and got their vials filled, the sooner they'd be off to some big city. Let those that survived lick their wounds and try to figure out what it was they were supposed to do next, "We all lose people. Born and raised down the mountain, came here during my summers with my paw. Ask what ya need," he'd just tell them to talk to Lucas. Somehow the elder Maze was saving face, Austin wondered if the shock hadn't worn off just yet, Lucas hadn't been the same after they pulled him from the courthouse.
His eyes scanned the street, only week prior they had been planning the first summer fair. "You come to places like this a lot?" He hadn't seen that many agencies since the last flood. It felt like too many suits for what the Appalachians saw as a cost to doing business with mother earth. Austin's eyes flicked to the woman, his chest tight as she wondered about, he wondered how someone like that looked at a place like they stood. Was it a problem to be solved? He bit his tongue instead, looking back at the male agent to let him ask his questions.

The new President wanted results. Sam wanted peace. And the military? They wanted weapons that could follow orders. Addie had been through this before. Back when she was the weapon.
'They don’t need another serum. They need a conscience.'
She slid the folder across the table—classified enhancements, failed experiments, and one still-active name circled in red: Sabra.
“Tell Wilson to tread carefully. The government eats its icons.”

They were polite, something that would normally put Addie on edge. But she knew it was unlikely that good manners were being used to hide something else here. Still in the car, Sebastian pulled out a set of hospital masks from the glove compartment and handed her one once he stood at her side. She raised a brow and took it. It would look a little weird for them to breathe in the fumes without protection.
"We won't be too long. We just need to take a look around, collect some samples, and take a few photos. This will probably be a pretty extensive investigation," Addie said as she adjusted the camera strap on her shoulders and began to walk away to take a few photos, leaving Sebastian behind with the other man.
"Excuse her, I'm Special Agent Ho, and that is Special Agent La'Rue-Connor. From our earlier conversation with the Chief, you're from here? My condolences on your loss. Losing one's home is an unthinkable thing to go through. Is it ok if I ask you a few questions before going about my work?" He said to make sure to be kind and empathetic. Sebastion had lost his own home, so he knew the type of damage it could do to a person. He also knew that having a local in their pocket would make this investigation a lot easier. "I promise I won't take too much of your time. I'm sure the work you're doing here is important."
As Sebastian touched the flesh, Addie was taking pictures and doing psychic sweeps, finding the location eerily quiet. Even abandoned places had residual psychic energy from their former residents. It felt like this place had been swept clean. She supposed this is why she had been asked to consult on the case.
The last few weeks had been hell, to say the least. Their town had gone up in flames, and so many were still unaccounted for. Lucas and a few others who had been found alive were staying in the next town over, trying to piece together what they could. Lake was being pulled with the rescue team to return, knock down the flames, and reclaim what they could. The DA's office had been kind enough to loan Lucas an office to store the files he had pulled from Silent Hill's town hall. There he was simply recording what was lost, saved, and trying to salvage what he could for the active cases due for trial. Not that it mattered anymore, most would simply be death certificates sent out to other courts.
While standing with the officers, Austin saw a black sedan pull up; the woman in the passenger seat had a stern look. The "good ole boys" called her "ma'am," fearing reprisal for disrespect. They spoke a few moments before the chief was hailed over; his coughs were clear as day. The smoke wasn't good for the older gentleman's lungs; he wasn't from the coal families. The group spoke around her open window a few moments before the sedan was guided toward Austin's group. "Take them up, city hall, no further. The engineering corp hasn't signed off on all of Main yet. Then take them down the road, they'll meet with Judge Maze to go over the records." Nodding, Austin pointed toward a worn-out mine truck, "Follow me up."
The drive was fast enough, a few short minutes passing smoldering timbers and buildings that looked like they had barely survived a nuclear disaster. The heat that had radiated from the initial fire outbreak had ruined most of the town from the ground up. Parking in front of the white marble building coated in black soot from all the smoke, Austin got out to greet the pair, "Can' go inside any of the buildin's. They'll be needin' fire marshall sign off first. But, you're welcome to walk this street. Not sure what y'all need to be seein'."

Back To The Basics

She had only agreed to this because Sebastian had asked nicely, and anything HYDRA-related always landed in her email. It was the only thing she had asked of SHEILD when they had asked her to work for them. But Addie hadn't expected to end up investigating some tiny town with one main road and too many tilted little houses.
"You know I kill people, right?" She sighed as they rolled to a stop at a set of barricades. There 4-5 police cruisers from the town they had diven through to get here.
definitely"I know, and I might need your skills yet, dear. For now, play nice and roll down the window for the officers." The old man said as he pulled out one of his many badges to show, as Addie did what he had instructed, squinting when the flashlight beam swept the car's interior. In the distance, she could see the ghost of small fires being put out here and there. This was definetly odd but not supernaturally so. At least not that she could see.
"Officer, my partner and I are with the FBI. We are here to investigate the potential cause of this tragedy. We have reason to believe it is in association with a known terrorist organization. Who is the highest-ranked officer here?"
