Sarabi has incredible inner strength to not be the one shedding tears when Scar breaks the news about Mufasa and Simba. She lost her husband and son at the same time, which would make anyone break down into tears. And you can see how much she's struggling in this moment - Her eyes are tightly shut with a devastation pulling at her facial features. Nala cried freely against her mother's leg, but Sarabi is suppressing her emotions. I'm sure the pride would completely understand and forgive her for crying, but she's clearly fighting back.
She doesn't want to show weakness in such a fragile situation for the kingdom. The king and prince are gone, their queen can't be lost too. Unfortunately, Sarabi never got the chance to help keep order and rule the way Mufasa intended thanks to Scar and the hyenas. Once the unity of lion and hyena is finalized, Sarabi certainly had her time to grieve in private. She prefers to do so alone, but the only other lionesses she allows near her during that time are Sarafina and Nala. The latter because she knows how badly Nala is hurting too.
I think between the time of Mufasa's death and Nala's escape, Sarabi and Nala bonded through their shared grief. While Nala couldn't feel the same grief as Sarabi for Mufasa, they both were there for one another in terms of losing Simba.

Ok so I do need to make something clear.
I'm back in the rpc, but also I'm not. This will not be a priority for me. Hell, I won't even be logged into this blog on mobile or anything. I'm still working on recovering from my severe carpel tunnel flare up that pulled me out of work all last week, I have a commission to do, and I'm taking part in a massive MLP fanzine where I need to make a two page spread (Was only gonna be one page but the other person seems to have dipped, and I took over their spot). My wife's birthday is also in two weeks, AND I'm starting therapy tomorrow morning.
Soooo, yeah. Don't expect me to be around super often, but I will come on here and there!

Look all I'm saying is Sarabi was queen for a REASON and I don't mean because she's a beautiful lioness. She's clearly got a fiery spirit to her and could keep up with Mufasa's strength. Of her generation, Sarabi is the strongest in the pride and that garnered her plenty of respect throughout the years. She's won her share of fights when protecting her subjects and in her younger years beside Mufasa. No one should ever take her lightly.

Something I keep thinking about from the musical is this added detail with Sarabi, and by extension the other lionesses. When Mufasa dies, the lionesses go and find his body in the gorge, and the actresses pull white streamers from the eyes of their masks to show them crying.
When Sarabi is confronted by Scar about the lack of food, those tears are still there symbolizing her ongoing grief. But when Scar starts to disrespect her AND the title and responsibility of being king, threatening the very lives of everyone around them, Sarabi RIPS those tears from her eyes. She channels that grief, turning it into the strength she needs to stand up to him on the behalf of his people—HER people—and say what she should have said a long time ago. To her, he's spitting on Mufasa's grave and his beliefs. In this moment, I think Sarabi felt like she had nothing to lose. Yes, he cut her off with that slap and knocked her to the ground, but for that short time Sarabi was filled with more pride and love than she had felt since the loss of Mufasa and Simba.

No but… Sarabi would have such a hard time opening her heart to anyone else after Mufasa. Her love for her king still goes strong after his death. Shes devoted till her last breath. She really believes she could never love someone else again after Mufasa. He was her everything. But if she did happen to get a second chance at love, it would be a very rough situation for her. She’d feel guilt—like she was betraying Mufasa and forgetting him. Her internal conflict would pull her into a spiral. Yet even still, she can’t push the other one away…. She wants their company despite the ache in her chest….

Anonymous colored: What were your first thoughts on Mufasa when meeting?
unprompted.
A fond smile crossed her face. There was a warmth to it that Sarabi felt she had lost. The memories of her first meeting with her beloved king. It was a balm over the aches that still resided in those deep cracks in her heart. The lioness' eyes close for a moment to let that feeling soak through her being; spreading from her chest down to her toes.
❝ He was a reckless cub. ❞ She replies as she got lost in those memories, relishing in them. ❝ Simba certainly took after him. He was always getting into trouble. He tried to get me to join him a few times... And sometimes I did. ❞
She chuckled softly. ❝ We were betrothed before we even met, so I spent a lot of time with him. Despite his mischievous nature, I could tell he was going to make a fine king someday. One I would be proud to rule beside. And I was right. ❞

@multiicolor colored: ❛ are you trying to trick me ? ❜ — vitani for sarabi !
meme.
Expression goes deadpan. She expected this to be the reaction she would get. But Sarabi saw no reason to play tricks on the younger lioness, to lead her into a false sense of security. Had she wanted to do harm she would simply do it. No games. That was Scar's way. But with the upbringing Vitani must have had, Sarab only felt sympathy towards her. ❝ I'm too old to be playing tricks on cubs. ❞
Vitani was a grown adult, but in an older lioness' eyes, she was still very young. ❝ We welcomed you into the Pridelands. The last thing I'd want to do is betray my son, the king's, wishes. Not to mention my granddaughter's. I said I wanted to look over your wounds from the war, and I meant it. ❞

@onlyheartaches colored: Sarabi, what would you do if it turned out Scar was still alive?
meme.
What would she do if Scar was still alive?
In all honesty, this was something Sarabi thought about every so often, or more accurately, what she would have done while he was still alive. But the scenario in question had crossed her mind more than once. He was gone; Simba and the hyenas made sure of that. And while judgement had been passed for what he had done, the former queen could not help but feel cheated in some way. For so long, she lived under the cruel lie of the fates of her husband and son. Simba had survived, but the loss of Mufasa continued to weigh heavy on her heart.
❝ Had he survived, ❞ she responded calmly, but her deep voice was laced with the undertones of her desire for vengeance, ❝ I would make sure there was nothing left of him. ❞

@onlyheartaches colored: "All around me, I see danger." - Simba for Sarabi
meme.
Danger. There was always danger, even in the Pridelands. And there was certainly danger for a young cub like Simba. Prince or no, there were still risks. Not even a lion was free from the claws of death. But here and now, there was nothing for her son to fear. One of Sarabi's large paws pulled him in close to her breast and she rubbed her head against him.
❝ There's no danger here in the den. But I think this might have to do with those hyenas you and Nala encountered... ❞ She was sure Simba didn't want to hear about that again after the scolding Mufasa gave him, but she hadn't had her own chance to talk about the situation with him. ❝ None of them would dare to enter Pride Rock. And if they did, they will learn the hard way not to mess with a queen's cubs... ❞

Feel free to alter dialogue to suit your muse!
“That really spooked you.”
“I don’t want to pry, but.. I want you to know I also want to listen, if you want someone to talk to.”

“Does this happen a lot?”
“Hey, what happened between you two?”

“Is this okay?”
“Hey.”

“What do you dream about?”
“Whenever you get stressed, you do this thing with your hands. What is it?”
“You’re right, I don’t understand, yet. Will you help me?”
“Should I leave a light on for you?”
“I brought you some water.”
“I won’t judge you.”
“It doesn’t have anything to do with trust. You don’t have to tell me. But I’ll listen, if you do.”
“Count your breaths with me, okay? Ready? One, two, three, four…”
“I’m here.”
“Talk to me.”
“You don’t need to tell me everything. I just want to know how I can help.”
“Let me hold your hair back, at least.”
“You used to love that [item].”

Lack of Sleep Starters!
pronouns and context can be changed as you see fit.
When was the last time you actually got some rest?
Alright, that's it. You're going to bed, and I'm not taking no for an answer.
Look at you! You're spilling coffee.
You have bags, and I'm not talking about the Gucci kind.
Jesus, have you been awake the entire night?
It's 4am. You need sleep.
You're safe here. You can rest now.
I promise, I'm fine. I just look tired a lot, thanks to... the tiredness.
Look, I'm okay! I've pulled all nighters before.
This isn't the first time I've gone without sleep.
I'll carry you to bed if I have to.
Do I need to baby you?
Huh? What? I'm awake, I swear!
You just ran into the wall. It's time to lie down.
Go. To. Bed. That's an order.
I made a nest for you. You can sleep in that, if you want.
Can I get an extra pillow / blanket?
Want me to tuck you in, too?
I'll check in on you in an hour. You'd better not have moved.

Seven Deadly Sinday
Since sinday is a thing, how about we acknowledge how many other ‘sins’ are out there since some aren’t comfortable with nsfw and also just for fun? Lust is excluded mostly because there’s so much of that already.
Gluttony
“Are you going to eat that whole pizza by yourself?”
“Maybe you should try sharing some of that?”
“You’ve been a bit excessive about this whole thing, haven’t you?”
“I ate my feelings. With a whole cake.”
“Yes, I bought a few bottles of wine. So what?”
“Do you ever feel trapped in all of your wants instead of your needs?”
“Maybe you should slow down there.”
Greed
“I just want some more!”
“One day I’ll be rich and famous and then they’ll see.”
“Remind me why I’m doing this when I get nothing out of it?”
“So I get two-thirds and you get a third. Sounds fair, right?”
“I can’t help that I deserve better than that.”
“Someone has clearly never heard of sharing the wealth.”
“It’s not worth it for me.”
Sloth
“Come on, you need to get out of bed!”
“Well maybe I don’t feel like going out and saving lives right now.”
“Can’t people do it on their own for once?”
“It’s not my fault! I wasn’t even there!”
“I’m done helping.”
“Other people got rich by doing nothing.”
“I think I’m just going to stay here all day.”
Wrath
“You didn’t have to kill them!”
“I’ve always got ways of getting someone back. Remember that.”
“Just…put the knife down.”
“They deserved it.”
“Don’t worry, it won’t hurt for much longer.”
“They should have known better than to mess with me.”
“You’re pretty scary when you’re pissed.”
Envy
“How come they get all the praise when I did all the hard work?”
“I could just rip their hair out at this point.”
“Why couldn’t they look at me that way?!”
“Oh, they’re just little Ms/Mr Perfect and no one can tear them down from their throne.”
“I told you, they mean nothing to me!”
“I take what they took from me.”
“It’s not fair!”
Pride
“I can’t help it that I’m this beautiful/handsome.”
“I don’t have time for peasants.”
“Don’t be so vain.”
“They’re worthless to me at this point.”
“I think it’s time for you to bow, don’t you?”
“I can handle this just fine on my own. Who needs others?”
“It’s not like I’m so easily defeatable.”
