My bookbinding tools and stuff
I started binding in July 2023, so I'm certainly no expert, but in case you're interested in what I use to create my binds…
I use Adobe InDesign to typeset and Illustrator for graphics
I print on an old Canon laser printer for black and white and an Epson ET-3830 inkjet for color
I purchase my shortgrain paper from Church Paper (for folios) and the long grain paper I use for quartos is just whatever (nothing special)
I love my punching cradle and guide that I got off etsy.
I use this thread (that I wax with beeswax) for sewing signatures
I love this cardstock for endpapers (Craft Consortium ink drops)
I like this bookboard (in black specifically)
I use these tools for spacing and squaring when creating covers
Everything gets stuck together with this glue. (GET THE POINTY TOP!)
I have an old Silhouette Cameo for cutting vinyl and applying foil to bookcloth (with this pen)
I use this foil quill for freehanding
I apply laser toner foil with this Scotch laminator
I have a thermal binding machine from Amazon and I use these glue strips with it
I have this guillotine (but I don't recommend black for visibility reasons)
I have purchased bookcloth from Hollander's, Colophon, and Amazon
Get this head and bond if you want to make your own bookcloth
I make ribbon bookmarks with charms like these and these crimps.
I get positive feedback and help and kindness from @renegadeguild
Caveat: These are just the tools and supplies I use. I am not an expert. I'm a hobbyist who is relatively new to it. Some of the things I use might be "wrong" but every book I've made works, so who cares?
If you want to see what it looks like when I bind something, here's a short video.

In honor of our very first sneak peek of the movie Wicked, my nostalgia kicked into high gear and I'm honoring one of my earliest fandom crazes with a silly little comic I'm calling "Fiyero Doesn't Get Enough Recognition For All The Shit He's Been Through."
Enjoy Fiyero having the weirdest 72 hours of his life.
Sequel comic here.

My mom talked to one of my old college professors that does a bunch of amphibian surveys and apparently he said “if we had the funding I would hire Alex to roam around the forest and do all our field work”

NOT how I expected Dor to end up on the ship. I feel a little sorry for the spineless doofus.
Nothing will ever hurt him again

derin, i have to assume that it was on purpose, but just in case... did you name your point-of-view character, suffering from the first great of their best friend and sibling, and then their entire family and in fact way of life an alternate spelling of "grieves" intentionally, or does your brain just do that shit you sometimes?
If you see any cool little allusions or naming themes or anything in TTOU, the truth is, that anything stupid or tacky is an accident and you're seeing things, and anything clever that makes me look really smart is something I put in on purpose.

hello!
ive seen a bit of talk about a physical ttou on the feed today, and was just wondering if you plan to take the thing through revisions or some such for that sorta shift in medium
no real reason just wondering! :D
The web serial version is essentially a first draft. The story will indergo editing before being released as an ebook, and further final editing before going to paperback and a polished ebook release (which is why the Curse Words paperback is taking so long, I keep putting off the final edit).

One thing I love about the Silmarillion is that because it’s so massive, its fans have to specialize.
Like I love everything but my Silm major is in Finrod studies, with a minor in obscure background characters.
Reblog this post with your Silmarillion “speciality,”

I don’t know how to say this in a way that doesn’t sound like I’m advocating for casual cruelty or whatever but something that grates so much about this current social moment is how many people are incapable of saying they dislike something or someone without cooking up some higher morally correct reason for their dislike. Sometimes you just disliked a book. Sometimes you don’t “get” an actor or a musician. There’s nothing morally wrong with your girl’s fuckass boyfriend he’s literally just annoying and you’re annoyed that you have to pretend you like him when you know he’ll be history in six months. It’s fine. You don’t need to justify your dislike.
