i know movies think its badass when characters calmly accept their death but im so tired of it. like yeah depending on the context of the death it can work but sometimes i wanna see the wise mentor figure panicked and fearful for the first time. i want it to be clear that everyone involved tried so fucking hard to save them, including themselves, and it still wasnt enough. give! me! DESPERATION!

I often ponder how well Senku would handle an actual death. He’s always so optimistic, always has a plan, and though there have been close calls I can’t recall a single time he had to truly deal with the harsh reality of the stone world, or the bloody consequences of war.
Dear artist, dear friend
I would LOVE to see a terrified Senku in your style
Like paralyzed scared
Bonus if Tsukasa is trying to protect him from whatever he's scared of
BUT OF COURSE it's just a greedy ask and I won't be sad whatsoever if you don't have the time
I am however willing to draw smth in return when I'm able to do that again, if you'd like
At your service pal🫂
This is a possible scene as if Hyoga were the main antagonist and attacked village imo
Tumblr media
You'll definitely come back, and as my backward request, i dare you to draw a sequel of this, huh? ;]

Normally I want to see characters whumped because I love them and I want to see them have a moment of weakness they aren’t usually allowed, to finally get the support they deserve.
I want to see Jax Digital Circus whumped because he needs to be humbled

Hyoga, Hyoga, and Hyoga.
You drew him so well!
I don’t have a specific idea, but if you could
add blood, that would be great.
Well, thanks for pushing me to finally make smth based on one dark ahh fanfic
What if Tsukasa couldn't get up in that battle, huh? This is the main topic
Name's "One second," and I DO suggest to read a tags first!

I have made advancements in the study of 'what causes me to like a character / want to see them in whump scenarios' The current profile I've come up with:
Cares deeply about the people close to them. Maybe they are upfront about this, maybe not. But they do care
The people around them don't see them as someone who can really get hurt. Maybe they'll take a beating once in a while, but they'll always get up without much issue. And even if they do get pretty badly hurt, they'll bounce back! They always bounce back! And they will certainly never have any psychological scars from anything. This viewpoint can come from physical strength, mental strength, or both.

Yay mind control I love mind control particularly mind control where the person is a passenger in their own body still able to feel all the sensations but unable to exert any control. The nauseating sensation of your body moving on its own, the sense that you should be able to stop doing whatever you’re doing, but your body simply isn’t responding.
Or alternatively, mind control where the mind itself bends to the controller when commands are issued. You are told to pick up the box, and for a moment you forget that you ever wanted to resist. You want to pick up the box. It is your own choice. You pick it up. And then you are yourself again, but you also never stopped being yourself exactly, either. You wanted to follow that command. And it occurs to you that your controller could take away your agency entirely if they so desired.
… and maybe that would be better. After all, what little resistance you do possess seems to do you little good. Perhaps it would be better to simply give in. Stop caring. The outcome will be the same either way

I'm trying to count how many times Hiccup is captured/kidnapped throughout both series, the movies and the short films, so here's my criteria:
Any time he is unwillingly moved from one location to another by a dragon, viking or other character.
This includes any dragons picking him up and flying off somewhere, even if he is okay with it later.
This does not include when Toothless/his friends drag him off to show him something.
Any situation that prompted the dragon riders to rescue him.
Any plans that involved him giving himself up or joining up with a villain/antagonist.
This does not include the time he and Dagur were trapped on that island together.
Any time he is tied up and led somewhere or locked up/held in place with a guard.
Here is the list of situations I have compiled in (hopefully) chronological order:
HTTYD
Congratulations, no captures or kidnappings.
GIFT OF THE NIGHT FURY
When Meatlug (accidentally) brings Hiccup along to the Rookery.
RIDERS OF BERK
S1E6 - Hiccup gets taken to Dragon Island.
S1E16 - Hiccup is captured by the Outcasts on their island.
S1E19 - Alvin Captures Hiccup and Toothless at the "Isle of Night".
DEFENDERS OF BERK
S1E20 - Hiccup gives himself up to Dagur as part of his plan with Alvin.
RACE TO THE EDGE
S1E1 - the Dragon Riders get captured by Daugr on a hunter ship.
S1E7 -The twins put him in prison (this one's just here because I think it's funny).
S2E6 - The Dragon Hunters capture him.
S2E11 - The Dragon Riders get captured trying to save the Skrill.
S3E1 - Hiccup is captured by Dragon Hunters while trapped on an island with Dagur.
S3E8 - Hiccup and Toothless get caught in a Dragon Hunter Trap and are kidnapped and forced to participate in dragon fights.
S3E12 - Viggo captures all the Dragon Riders at the auction.
S3E13 - The Defenders of the Wing capture the Dragon Riders.
S4E3 - First Hiccup is caught by Amos and Berthel.
S4E3 - Then he's caught by Savage.
S4E3 - Then Krogan gets him after Throk saves him.
S4E3 - Ryker captures him for the tiniest bit right before the riders arrive.
S4E10 - Hiccup is caught with Ruffnut when he tries to rescue her from Viggo's trap. Unlike the other traps, he needs the other dragon riders to rescue them.
S5E2 - The Sandbuster captures Hiccup and Snotlout.
S6E8 - Viggo hands Hiccup over to Krogan as part of their plan.
HTTYD 2
Valka kidnaps Hiccup and Toothless.
HTTYD 3
Grimmel captures the dragon riders.
HOMECOMING
Once again, no captures of kidnappings
Up For Debate:
There are a few situations which technically fit the criteria, but I'm not sure if they fit considering the context of the show:
S5E5 - the riders are stuck on Vanaheim, guarded by the Sentinels. (Rtte)
S1E3 - This is a technicality, but when Hiccup joins up with Dagur to keep him away from the other dragons. (Dob)
EDIT: I forgot that even though my criteria says that the time Dagur and Hiccup are trapped on that island together (S3E1 of RTTE) doesn't count, because he is joining up with an (at the time) antagonist, there is a moment when Hiccup is captured by Dragon Hunters near the end of the episode.
After careful discussion (aka me ranting at my roommate) S4E10 of RTTE is also moving from "up for debate" to the official list. These changes are reflected above.
This brings our official count to 22 captures/kidnappings!
Honestly, the hardest part about this was finding the distinction between being captured or being trapped and what I wanted to count. When Hiccup isn't captured, he spends a lot of time in traps.

"Please."
The villain raised an eyebrow, but didn't otherwise look up from their desk. "You can walk out of that door any time, darling. I'm not stopping you."
"I'd come back. It wouldn't - I don't want to break our deal."
"You don't want the consequences of breaking our deal. You absolutely want to break it."
"People are dying," the hero snapped. "I can help."
"Mm, of course you can. You're a miracle on legs."
"I'm just suggesting a pause," the hero said. "A temporary change of terms. That's all."
"And I'm just saying no."
The hero stopped on the other side of the table, fingers digging into the fine wood in an effort to control their temper. They took a deep breath. Released. Another.
"I'm still yours," the hero said. "I'd still be yours."
"Always. But N-O spells no."
"I'm begging," the hero said, through gritted teeth.
"Is that what that is?" The villain finally deigned to glance up. Their eyes - a dark and stormy night for all bad things to happen in - did not match their light tone. The amused curve of their slight smile. "Gosh. Your standards are slipping. You're not even kneeling or anything."
"Would you say yes if I knelt?"
The villain's head tipped to one side. "No," they said, after a long moment. "But I'd sincerely appreciate the view. Perhaps it might even distract you from this latest bout of self-loathing."
"Screw you."
"But it's so much more fun when you do it, dear."
"This is serious!"
The villain scoffed and merely pointed a finger at the door, expectant and waiting.
The hero's jaw clenched hard enough to hurt but they didn't move.
"Mm," the villain said. "Are you kneeling or are we done here?"
The villain could have lied, they knew that. They could have pretended there was a chance that they'd say yes. They could have offered false hope, only to rip it away again once they'd had their fun.
In the grand terms of their arrangement, the villain had done absolutely nothing wrong. They were even, in their own particular way, being kind.
There was a bitter taste in the hero's mouth.
"It's bad out there," they said, voice cracking. "People need me. They could - maybe it could be fun. You've never played at saving the world, have you? We could do it together. Go together. It could be an experiment. A game."
"Perhaps," the villain shrugged. "But I don't think that would be very good for your mental health."
"This isn't very good for my mental health!"
The villain simply looked at them.
The hero could leave. They could end the deal at any time.
But, then, the villain would simply leave too. An apocalypse slipping free of its gilded cage. The horrors on the TV would seem mild compared to the fight to come.
"I could be back in an hour," the hero said. "You wouldn't even notice I was gone."
"And I could end the world by lunch time," the villain said. "You'd be dead before you had time to be too distressed. What's your point?"
"You really don't care what's happening out there?"
"No."
"You have to care."
"I don't."
"If you're worried I'd get hurt-"
"-I'm not. I'd slaughter anyone who tried to hurt you before they got the chance."
The hero's mouth dried. Their fingers flexed on the table. They wanted to scream. Fight. Throw things.
The villain leaned back in their chair and sighed, at whatever they read on the hero's face.
"You are saving the world, love," they said. "You're here. With me. Do I need to prove that I still have teeth?"
"No," the hero said. "I - no. Thank you."
The villain nodded, just once. "Good. Come here."
"It's okay. I - I'm okay."
"You're not. Come here."
Feeling foolish, and furious, and raw, the hero rounded the desk. The villain's arm wrapped around them, pulling them close. The grip was painfully tight, mercifully impossible to wriggle free from, and so the hero had to settle against them. They could hide the prickle of tears against the deceptively vulnerable line of the villain's neck.
They stayed like that until the hero could no longer hear the screaming beyond the window.

Whump Prompt #1154
Submitted by Anon - thanks!
Maybe a whumpee who is super powerful having magic bands put around their limbs and neck lovingly by the whumper. They hurt them every time they try to use magic.
Give me the whumpee who finally is rescued and the bands are removed with only faint scars, terrified to use their magic again.
However, they’re even more terrified of letting their team know how deeply the torture affected them. they don’t want to be seen as another of whumper’s broken prisoners per say. So they hide it until it all comes crashing down.

Thinking about Ishigami Senku again.
I just realized I can talk about what happens in America now that the new season is out. Awesome.
I am perpetually foaming at the mouth about Xeno betraying Senku. Senku is Senku so he doesn't make a big deal about it. He's just like lol my mentor had me shot. That's so like him.
But good god. Senku's degree of chill over being shot has me wanting to shake him even more than his degree of chill over the fact that Tsukasa killed him. I mean, at least Tsukasa seems to genuinely feel bad about that. Xeno seemed to just be like 'welp, unfortunate that the kid needs to die but he could potentially interfere with my world domination plans so'
In my mind Senku's perpetual level of chill is a facade to a significant degree. He knows the degree of responsibility he faces, so he can't afford to lose out on a valuable ally just because they tried to kill or torture him.
I imagine that he copes with stress by distracting himself with work. I wonder what would happen if one of his former enemies were to approach him in a rare relaxed moment? Would he be able to suppress his anxiety at their presence as easily?

The question isn't "would this character ever admit to needing help or are they determined to be a totally stoic wall?" it's "what would it take to make this character who's determined to be a totally stoic wall desperate enough to ask for help?"
Scare them so bad they decide it's worth breaking their own internal guiding doctrine and facing the mortification of admitting to their friends that they're fallible.
