also this is not relevant to the above post but just something i've been thinking about what with the goings ons in my country:

space travel is in danger, right now. trump cut NASA's science budget by nearly 4mil and elon and trump's very public lovers' quarrel does not bode well, since trump is a whiny little bitch baby and elon was a champion of sending people to Mars. it seems likely trump will oppose the idea in the future just to spite elon's freak ass. the only person in the senate that's calling for the lunar gateway and further artemis launches is ... ted cruz?

i'm scared guys. lmfao. not that we were doing well anyway but Keeping Up With Elon and Trump has taken on a new depth

while i'm here and talking about this, i used to read a lot of literature about spaceflight itself when i was a teenager, but a lot of that is history based and kind of niche. i really like the hard space science aspect of it which is why astrophysics is the way to go. imo, if you want to read theoretical (astro)physics, you have to start with stephen hawking, obviously, but then the natural best next choice is michio kaku.

there was a show on the learning channel when i was a kid called how the universe works and i used to be obsessed with it. like i would hawk it down in the tv guide at my tender age of like 13 and watch reruns for as long as the show would air at the time, and then exhaust the tv guide looking for when it would air again so i would be ready. i was ravenous.

michio kaku (who is a professor of theoretical physics at CUNY) was one of the scientists who was on that show. he was funny, and made the science accessible and easy to understand in his words. when i started getting older and could more easily absorb the literature, i naturally sought out his books.

some recommendations:

parallel worlds: this one is about string theory and m-theory, the theory of an endless multiverse, and pre big bang-theory

physics of the impossible: electromagnetism, the plausibility of a time machine, and the like. doesn't pander to pseudoscience while pondering the possibility of the seemingly impossible

the future of humanity: examines humanity's future within the greater universe. i am not personally a fan of abandoning earth quickly as some others, but this is still a great read if you are interested in humans' possibilities beyond earth and colonization of mars. this book is about the next phase of space travel, and i appreciate it from that perspective.

anyway, this is like. my niche weird interest but you never forget your first love and mine was undoubtedly space.
