Random trivia : The female often feeds (or tries to at least) on the male during or after copulation. (sexual cannibalism) The male approaches the female in a stop and go motion, freezing when the female looks it its direction and moving when she’s not looking. Mantids eyes are made to detect movement but they don’t see (or understand) immobile objects. cf. wikipedia
