Since Ninjago is based on a bunch of culture and traditions from other countries, which include Japan — how exactly big is Centipede Kai? Considering the fact that the centipede is probably mostly based on a Omukade (which is the size of a mountain apparently)

It’s a bit hard to explain but my bug Kai actually has two different forms. Full bug and what I usually draw him as in art. While he’s usually a bit bigger in his full bug form, both forms have the ability to basically extend the body for as long as possible or until kai molts again. So he’s not exactly getting bigger but he is getting longer, it can get to the point where he’s able to wrap around the bounty or monastery.

Kai’s feelings regarding Cole and skylor are actually very interesting and tie back to a long standing issue he has with commitment and his childhood but nobody ever wants to take him seriously past “haha he cheats on them”

In my mind, I think the issue is that Kai doesn’t actually understand what it’s like to make a friend because he never had any growing up and he only became friends with the ninja bc of work. He’s never made a friend before and he has zero basis to go off of. So he confuses his feelings for romantic attraction.

I like to think that he didn’t actually develop any feelings for skylor. He was just extremely lonely after Zane died and his friends and sister started focusing on the love triangle. Skylor was someone his age who shared a lot of interests and so he immediately latched onto her. But when skylor started reciprocating his flirting he started to distance himself because he knew deep down that’s not really what he wanted but he doesn’t want to face that issue head on yet. Hence why in *canon* he can go up to years completely ignoring her.

For Cole this is more headcanon bc well lava was never canon either, but I think he wanted to become closer friends with Cole so started the whole flirting thing again. And when Cole reciprocated he once again distanced himself and eventually Cole moved onto geo.

Obv that’s just what I think based on *canon* and there’s nothing wrong with Kailor lava or glowstone shipping. But I generally get annoyed when people see how Kai acts regarding his relationships and immediately jump to “oh he’s a cheater” when this fandom typically bends over backwards to justify jays or even sometimes Zane’s shitty relationship moments.

Don’t get me wrong kai in *canon * is definitely an asshole towards skylor and it’s important to acknowledge that. But the conversation should not be “hahah kai is a cheater”, it’s so redundant and not only gives into stereotypes abt bisexual ppl like you said but also extremely limits the ability to discuss the real world and in canon implications behind his writing.

This is a 10/10 take.

I like how you mention that Kai is canonically an asshole to Skylor, because he absolutely is. Not only in the show, but also in Quest for the Lost Powers. What I like is being able to point out that behavior without being like: "because of this, he would cheat", because, obviously, that is a wild take. No, Kai's actions towards Skylor are not good, but it's not like he hates her guts or would ever even consider cheating on her if they were romantically together.

I also love how you talked about how because of his past, he might have mistaken his platonic feelings for romantic. That is such a good take that I had not considered until now, and I think it fits the whole Kailor dynamic very well.

I just think there's a large sect of the fandom that sees Kai as a "fuckboy" and I *personally* feel like that's a disservice to his character.

I love your comic where Frohicky makes sure Kai is eating properly for someone his size because affection being displayed though food is already a trope I love dearly.

But also— if you think about it, in a way, by refusing to eat as much as he needs to, which seems to be born out of him refusing to “give into the monster” (given he implies that if he ate as much as he needs to he would risk hurting others); Kai is, likely, putting others more “at risk” than he would if he just ate what he needs. Because, if he were to get actual urges to eat his loved ones, wouldn't that be more likely if he was, y'know, underfed?

His drive to punish himself is making him make worse choices and it makes me 🥺 I'm glad he is getting support from someone who doesn't just tolerate the “monster” part of him but actively finds it attractive, damn he needs the reasurance—

This is real and true but also it’s not entirely just a “I don’t wanna be a monster “ issue for Kai.

My Kai has always had problems with eating ever since he was a kid bc he couldn’t afford to be consistently feeding himself and nya. When he joined the ninja he got a lot better with it but sometimes when he gets to depressed he goes back to limiting how much he eats.

When he became part bug, he also had a mental break down from all the trauma in his life catching up to him. So he went back to refusing to eat properly and has been using the “oh I’m a monster I can’t eat otherwise I’ll lose myself to my instincts” as more of an excuse. Apart of him does believe it but the issue is more about Kai just not treating himself well when he breaks down.

Either way frohicky is not having any of it! He’s not going to let anyone starve under his roof! He’ll make sure to cook Kai as many lasagnas as he needs!
