Y'know, I heard rabbits can die of loneliness? I'm sure this is true because I haven't been able to get a hold of my best friend Ken and man it's killing me. Anyway, my name is Nagachika Hideyoshi, but just call me Hide. Help me curb my loneliness until Ken decides to grace me with his presence. Or a text message. (independent Tokyo Ghoul RP blog)

"I’ll make sure to remember that so I can run by here then. Thanks for the heads up," Hide gave a small, relieved smile. There was too much work to be done to wait around all day for Akira to show up. "I’m actually just a part-timer. That’s probably why we haven’t seen each other around even though it feels like I’m everywhere sometimes. If there’s ever any spare work, I take it up."
"Well, it’s not really that important anyway. Not that I don’t trust you, Haise; you seem like a great guy, but I’ve been scolded for not handing in reports directly before." Hide shrugged. Okay, maybe he was lying a little. He’d been scolded for leaving notes on other people’s desks instead of with people, but that was just a rookie mistake. "My name’s Nagachika Hideyoshi, but you can just call me Hide."

"Wow, that sucks. I burn pretty easily but I don't know what I'd do if my skin was that sensitive. Probably burn to death I guess. That must be how vampires feel. Hey, you're not going to suck my blood are you?" Hide chuckled at his own joke, "but seriously, you should try and take a break from the sun. I know a few food places you can go if you're new to the area."

"Uh," Hide stared at the older man with a mixture of concern and confusion, "Y’know it’s the middle of summer. You really shouldn’t be wearing a mask like that in this weather."

"Coffee and cake huh?" Hide paused, pretending to look through the menu thoughtfully. After only a few moments he snapped the menu shut and handed it back to Takami. It was time to fess up. He looked at her sheepishly before saying, "You should probably just order what you usually get. I actually made up the menu thing on the spot as an excuse to talk to you but didn’t really think it through." Good going, Hide. He’d only just sat down and already was making himself look like an idiot.
Right … When he saw Takami’s reaction to Kamii University, he leaned back in his chair and resisted the urge to sigh. He was no genius. Sure, he worked hard and earned his seat at the university. But genius? The word just didn’t sit right with him somehow. “Yeah, I go to Kamii but I wouldn’t exactly call myself a genius. My best friend is a genius. You ask him anything at all and I’ll bet you a slice of cake that he’ll know the answer without looking it up. I’m the kind of person who has to study their butt off for every test. All the studying seems funny since I’m still not sure what I’m doing there.” That was only half of a lie. Hide knew he applied because that’s where Kaneki was applying. However, Hide didn’t exactly know what he wanted to study. Not 100% at least. There were just so many subjects out there. Expecting someone to decide on the spot what subject they wanted to run with for the rest of their life was just ridiculus.

Coffee Shop//ofbirdmasks
"Huh . . ." Hide squinted as he looked up at the coffee shop's sign. It had been a while since he'd been here and somehow it felt strange to be back, almost like he didn't belong. Well, technically he was just standing outside of Anteiku but the vibes he was getting were pretty strong. But hey, the shop served good coffee and there was definitely something. It made sense that Hide would want to kill two birds with one stone. He put on a cheerful face as he pushed through the doors of Anteiku.
#ofbirdmasks#sorry for the wait!#hope you're fine with me pulling it back a bit vaguely in the timeline#still havent decided how to deal with hide's superb hide and seek skills haha#coffeeshop

Hide's smile widened when he heard her offer and he wasted no time at all sitting down. "Well, if you insist. Food tastes way better when you're eating with someone else anyway. That's what I think at least."
"Hope you don't mind," Hide said absentmindedly as he picked up the menu and looked it over, "Well, maybe "secret menu" isn't quite right. There's not a whole menu I can pull out. If you know how to ask, you can order some really special stuff though. What do you usually order?" He stole a peek at her from over the menu while he spoke. Takami really was cute. Her hair was an unusual silver color, but it suited her well. There's a chance he caught her small blush and kept talking to cover one of his, "I actually go to a university near here."
Cafe Cutie
There were few things in this world that could beat a good cafe. The smell of freshly ground coffee beans just managed to mix perfectly with the fresh fruit and cakes that decorated the menu. Not to mention the girls. Cafes were the perfect spot to hang out and and it never ceased to amaze Hide how cute the girls hanging here were. Hide wasn’t some creeper but hey he was a young male so who could really blame him? Most days he just enjoyed the coffee and atmosphere, but today was different. He’d noticed a girl about his age coming here for the past week and today was the day he was finally going to introduce himself. Hide took a deep breath to ready himself and silently thanked whoever was out there that Kaneki wasn’t here to watch him.
Filled with resolve, he made his way over to the girl’s table, “Hey! My name’s Hide and I’ve noticed you come here a few times. You figured out the secret menu items yet?” He grinned.

The resemblance was … uncanny to say the least. There’s no way he’d forget the face of his best friend and the guy in front of him was a dead ringer for Kaneki- except for the hair of course. Didn’t seem like they recognized Hide but man this was weird. Hide laughed a little, “Ah, that’s fine! I can always come back later. More importantly, I’m getting the weirdest sense of deja vu. What’s your name again?”

He stared at the other for a moment before registering anything was sad. He shook his head. He could have sworn he had seen the other male around before but he hadn’t had the slightest clue who he was. “Oh, sorry, Akira is out right now. I think she had more things to look over. I can fill in for her if I need to though,” he replied.

Man, it was just way too easy to sneak up on Kaneki. He was always too engrossed in his own thoughts to notice, say, his best friend Hide sneak up right behind him. Not until Hide wanted Kaneki to, of course. Hide snickered before whispering in the creepiest old lady voice he could come up with, "Ooh it's that hooligan Kaneki Ken at it again, reading dirty magazines behind those books. Tsk tsk."

Why'd it always have to be so quiet in here? Hide sighed as he tapped the back of his pen on his cheek. There wasn't even an old clock ticking away on the walls to at least break the monotony in the library. All of the old clocks had been taken down and replaced with new digital ones because some rep had begun chanting "out with old and in with new" or something. It was so stupid. There was no way Hide could sit still and focus in this quiet and tired room. He'd go insane before that happened. But what else was there to do?
Hide put his head in his hand and began lazily looking through his phone. No new messages, but it's not like he had a ton of friends. Most of the names were people he hadn't spoken to in ages. It wasn't like he could just casually start texting them and invite them out, especially since the conversation might include re-introducing himself.
Talking to a stranger or someone who might not even bother responding still sounded more entertaining than what he was doing. All of Hide's patience had been used to dig up anything related to ghouls he could find but there wasn't much of anything in this library. The search had taken longer than the actual reading. Hide spent all of two seconds thinking before muttering, "well, got nothin' to lose," and quickly typing out a message.
-Hey! What's up?-
