you poor pretty little thing...
jooran in the end (i'm sure she would've agreed to be jeongnyeon's concubine 🤭):
Excerpt from Woo Davi's interview regarding this scene:
"I saw comments about that scene saying, ‘Who wouldn’t fall for Kim Tae-ri if she looks at you like that?’ and I totally agreed. (Laughs) Honestly, I fell for her in real life too. Her gaze has this way of pulling you in."

the truest, most raw beauty factor (for me) of the movie: handmaiden is the fact from the very beginning, the narrative pushes you inside a box just so that you don't really expect a happy ending for the women who both want nothing but liberal love and their basic living needs fulfilled -at the very core. the ambience, the dark, cold infectious rooms, a house full of people who spoke in whispers and a snake figurine keeping the residers at bay, so confined, so powerful, so toxic: as if a mere fantasy it is to wish for freedom. the characters think so, they compel you to think the same -expect nothing but yearning and betrayed sob-ridden depatures from the mistress and the maid who loved each other despite of knowing how painful letting go would be.
except, segment two begins, the movie holds you by the throat and the women give an opportunity to what it feels to believe in their deals rather than their realities. they're holding hands, they're merging their love and understanding like their bodies and they're opening their mouths and kissing with fervor and passion and to speak out the truth and suddenly, getting out of everything and running away doesn't seem that idealistic, that maybe just maybe they could get the ending they want and they finally do; because they clutched hands and ran through the meadows and decided that maybe their hold could be stronger than the hold this damned patriarchy has over them and then they're running and running and fighting and suddenly two women who left their home during winters and storms are cruising on ships and watching the sunsets and this time the darkness of the night isn't actually as dark anymore and it's happy against my initial expectations and it's beautiful and everything and so much more...
