Hi Everyone,

I’m always pleased to announce a PMC open day as they are always some of the best open days we do, a lot of fun and we always get a great turnout so a date for everyones diary is March 29th where we will have the worlds first Open Day showcasing the truly excellent new PMC Prophecy Speaker Range.

Over the years the various Twenty Series speakers were easily our most popular speaker range, and rightly so as they were truly brilliant, I actually used to say that I had no idea how PMC could possibly beat these but guess what, they really have with this new range, firstly I feel they look really modern and fresh, secondly they sound incredible, for me it is the size of the image they paint for reasonably small speakers and last but certainly not least PMC have somehow managed to keep the pricing really competitive in a world of constant price ranges, a lot of manufacturer’s use a new range as an excuse to put prices up but not here, they are actually cheaper than their Twenty5i equivalents so PMC should be applauded here I feel.

As I have said before it is all thanks to PMC that there is a HiFi Lounge as when I was a printer I kept upgrading my PMC speakers till I got to the MB2i’s then I decided to leave my print business so that I could become a HiFi dealer to sell PMC speakers, seems mad really looking back, what on earth was Wendy and I thinking, but it was the best decision we ever made and we still run PMC at home with their epic BB5 SE’s, so this new range is a big deal for HFL as it is the 1st new PMC range launched since we started HiFi Lounge.

Open Day Details

For the Open Day we will have 3 rooms running and a few of the top guys and development team over from PMC to help run the rooms and talk about the new range and all things PMC.

In the infamous great sounding upstairs room we will run the Prophecy 1’s and 5’s on a PMC COR amplifier, then in the 1st downstair room we will run the Prophecy 7’s (arguably the sweet spot in the range) with a Bryston setup then in the final room we will be playing the biggest speaker in the range, the Prophecy 9’s and holding 3 presentations by PMC on the development of the Prophecy range.

DeVore Fidelity O/Reference Speakers Now On Demo as Part of our New Flagship System!

Hi Everyone,

It was a big day last Friday as we finally got to unpack and setup our new 4 box DeVore Fidelity O/Reference speakers as part of our new Highend Room setup which basically meant spinning the room round so we now run our sources and preamp at the rear of the room to give centre stage to the speakers and amps, this is something I have wanted to do for a while so it is a great job done, there is still plenty of work to do sorting out all the cabling and I really need to get a turntable in the system asap but even straight out the box it is all sounding so good that I just wanted to share some pictures on the system.

For anyone who knows me they will know that I have become a big fan of DeVore Fidelity's range of speakers so I took the plunge at the beginning of last year to order a pair of their Reference speakers, these are priced around £120,000 so it was certainly a big decision, then began the journey of putting a system together to really show them off which I feel we have really achieved with some of the best equipment on sale in the world today and I have to say even straight out the box it is sounding incredible.

It's no lie that on first listening it actually bought me to tears, really wasn't expecting that and I wasn't thinking about how much it all cost, honest, it was due to the pure emotion this system can convey, it is totally engaging and lifelike, it just makes you want to listen to all your favourite music again as it is like you are hearing it for the 1st time, it really is everything I was hoping it would be, and more to be honest, now I just want anyone who loves music to come in for a listen anytime as the room will be setup like it is now for many years to come to be enjoyed by all our customers, it's going to be a struggle to home in the evenings to be honest.

YG Acoustic Speakers / Bel Canto Electronics & Cardas Cables Open Day - February 22nd!

Hi all,

Here's a date for everyone's diary, February the 22nd for an Open Day for 3 newish brands for us that are proving very popular so we thought it would make sense to do and Open Day showcasing them all together.

We will have 3 demo rooms running showcasing 3 systems of differing levels of performance and price, personally I am really looking forward to this one as I have really become a big fan of all 3 of these brands that in all honesty weren't really on my radar till 18 months or so ago but once I heard them all, especially when working together, I was sold.

Upstairs Demo Room!

So for our traditional 'smaller system' upstairs room we will be running 2 pairs of speakers from the the YG Acoustic 'Peaks' speaker range, this is basically their entry level range starting with the Cairn stand-mount speaker and then we will switch to the floor-standing Ascent, both being driven by the Bel Canto E1x all in one streaming amplifier and all connected with mid level Cardas cables.

A quick word on Bel Canto, now I knew the name but had never really listened to any of their kit, now I feel I should mention it is Class D but that really shouldn't even be in the conversation really as Class D of old was frowned on in HiFi for amplification but once you have heard what Bel Canto have achieved with it I know you will be blown away as I know I was, extremely musical but detailed and engaging, the perfect balance really, it is just a different way of amplification really just a Class A and A/B is.

1st downstairs Room!

In our first downstairs room we will be moving to the entry level of the YG Reference range with the stunning Carmel 3 speakers, don't let their diminutive size fool you, these really are something else, these will be partnered with the Bel Canto Black series ACI 600 Integrated, this is their flagship one box solution and really is something. This system will showcase a really elegant system comprising of one box for electronics partnered with a pair of High-end, but small speakers, to show you don't have to go to a huge system to get the quality.

Highend Room!

Now this promises to be very special with nothing spared here, YG will be lending us a pair of their Reference Hailey 3 speakers priced at £69k and these will be driven by Bel Canto's flagship Black separate system comprising of a 2 box DAC/Streamer/Pre and a pair of Mono amps, all hooked up with the flagship Cardas cables, now this is one room I really want to hear as I have yet to hear YG's at this level which I have no doubt will be incredible, especially when partnered with Bel Canto and Cardas at this level also.

Fyne Audio Classic and Vintage Speaker Open Day - January 25th!

Hi Everyone,

Belated Happy New Year, here we go again and our first open day of 2025 looks to be a good one and something a little different, let's go back in time, over the last few years I have really grown to love the bigger, wider baffle speakers so when Fyne Audio launched their Classic and Vintage ranges last year it seemed the perfect opportunity to hold an open day to hear a speaker design that is a little different from your more traditional speakers, they may look vintage but they really are cutting edge designs technically with the latest driver tech etc.

The Classic is the more affordable range with a more basic cabinet design, then there is the newly released Classic Gold which bridges the gap between Classic and Vintage and then there is the Vintage range which really do scream Highend with their stunning cabinets and overall design, we will have all 3 ranges here on the day.

SuperTrax Super Tweeters

We will also be showcasing the Fyne Audio SuperTrax Super Tweeters, now I have to admit I was a little sceptical about these but they really do add something to the overall sound, once they were removed when I was listening something definitely was lost in soundstaging and an overall airiness, we will be demoing these so you will be able to make your own mind up.

The Day from 9.30am - 5pm

So we will have 3 rooms running, upstairs will be the baby Vintage 5 Standmount then downstairs we will have the Classic Gold 15 SP's and Vintage 10's running with a variety of Valve amps and Accuphase + 2 sets of SuperTrax running.

We will have Dave here from Fyne Audio to help run the day and answer any questions as well refreshments throughout the day.

Introducing The New PMC Prophecy Range of Speakers!

Very Exciting News from PMC Speakers!

Hi Everyone,

So last week Billy and I were invited to a very cool 2 day launch event at The Royal Academy of Arts and Wired Masters studio Introducing the brand spanking new PMC Prophecy range of speakers which will be replacing the Twenty5i range so they certainly have very big shoes to fill.

Being that we are such big fans of PMC Speakers at HFL and that they are by far our most popular speaker manufacturer this is very big news, arguably the biggest since we launched as the twenty’s where already available when we launched in 2012 and bearing in mind how many PMC customers we now have there is certainly going to be a lot of interest in this new range, and rightly so.

So to sum up there are 4 stereo pairs including 1 bookshelf, a 2 way and 2 x 3 way floorstanders and a centre speaker available in 3 finishes, Walnut, Oak and Black, have to say they look and sound absolutely stunning and are priced extremely competitively.

So how do they sound? Well all I can say is PMC really have moved the game on compared to the Twenty5i’s, these are more open, bigger image, faster, cleaner, the step up in separation and clarity was quite noticeable and PMC’s bass is quite special but these are very tight with clean and defined bass with plenty of punch.

The Fact.8’s have always been one of my favourite speakers and for me this is like a whole range of new and improved Fact.8 speakers which makes me very happy.

They are due from January onwards and we will be having an open day at HFL once the whole range is released in March so watch this space.

This was a fascinating insight in what is involved in mastering, producing and mixing music from what is recorded to what is actually finally released.

Obviously PMC have been known to be the speakers of choice for so many studios all over the world for decades now and for very good reason, what was fascinating was being given the opportunity to choose a song of your choice, Massive Attacks ‘Teardrop’ from me, then to listen to it on the new Prophecy 1 then switch to the BB6 XBD’s, obviously in size they are hugely different but in voicing they really were identical, sitting in the hot seat the similarities were quite shocking considering the size difference.

New Lateral Audio Aria HiFi Stands Installed In Upstairs Demo Room!

Hi All,

Ever since the very sad demise of HiFi Racks earlier this year I have been looking for a replacement HiFi Stand brand, now as we all know there are a lot of racking brands out there but when speaking to my Accuphase Rep about this he suggested I should look at Lateral Audio Racks which turned out to be a great suggestion as they had been working on the new Aria range with release a few months away which seemed to be exactly what I was looking for so I placed the order and it all arrived this week and I really couldn't be happier.

A lot or racks, in fact most do look like HiFi Stands, and there is a reason for that to get the best performance from your kit but where HiFi Racks won was that their stands were made of solid wood and looked like furniture rather than a HiFi stand, These new lateral Aria stands bridge that gap really well, yes they look like a rack but have a real simple elegance to them and being wooded shelves helps soften the impact but they also have a couple of neat touches to maximise the performance of the rack like the bracing under each level and the way the legs are attached to help stop any vibrations.

So in summary they are the perfect blend of style and performance so a win/win really.

New Hifi Rose RD160 DAC Now On Permanent Demo!

Hi All,

So a really quick one to say that we now have the new HiFi Rose RD160 DAC / Pre on demo.

In true HiFi Rose fashion it looks really great with its funky info screen and sound waves readout as music is playing, really does deliver on the all important sound quality as you’d expect also.

We’ve hooked it up to our HiFi Rose RS130 network transport which is its perfect partner to make a pretty potent 2 box digital setup and to help get it run in.

It is pretty simple to get up and running and as with all HiFi Rose products there are plenty of options within the menus with filters etc to allow you to tune the presentation to your liking and at £4699 it seems reasonably priced for the build and sound quality.

dCS Audio Varèse European Launch at HiFi Lounge 29th / 30th November!

Hi Everyone,

I am very honoured to announce that HiFi Lounge will be hosting the European launch for the stunning new dCS Audio Varèse Music system on the 29th and 30th November, this is basically the best digital front end in the world now and has been a massive undertaking from dCS resulting in years of research and development to create something truly special, if you would like to be one of the first in the world to hear this please find more information below.

Wilson Audio WATT/Puppy Now On Permanent Demo, The Rebirth Of A Speaker Legend!

Hi All,

So I am really excited to say that we now have the new Wilson Audio WATT/Puppy speakers on permanent demo, this is basically the 9th iteration of the legendary WATT/Puppy design as it went through 8 different versions between 1986 to 2011 when it was retired and as HFL launched in 2012 my only experience of these speakers is within customers systems that I have heard and loved so it is great to have our first WATT/Puppy’s on permanent demo which Wilson Audio have brought back to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.

I had a feeling these would be a special speaker so when ours arrived I couldn’t wait to get them up and running but I was then admitted to hospital for a week then off work for another 10 days or so which was torture as I just wanted to hear our new WATT/Puppy’s, anyway we got them up and running at the weekend and I am pleased to say, as expected, they sound truly brilliant, they are so the right size for most UK homes so I can see them being very popular.

The origin of Wilson Audio's WATT/Puppy dates back to 1986 when founder David Wilson created the WATT, which stands for Wilson Audio Tiny Tot, as a loudspeaker to monitor his own recordings with. In 1989, the companion Puppy was released to increase bass output, and with it the WATT/Puppy combination was born. I was told a while ago that the WATT/Puppy is the biggest selling High End speaker of all time which isn’t a surprise I guess with a history like this, this iteration is basically what David Wilson would create today if he had the resources Wilson Audio have now making it the most accomplished WATT/Puppy yet, I’m sure he would have been very proud of where his initial designs have ended up.

50th Anniversary Meddalion!

A cool touch is that they come with a 50th Anniversary Medallion throughout 2024 to commemorate this incredible milestone, generally this will either come in silver of black, depending on the colour you choose your hardware, ie spikes etc, but if you order them in any variety of red then you get a red medallion making these the rarest version. Well when I heard this I just couldn’t resist and ordered our demo pair in the stunning Premium Cranberry Pearl which really does suit these speakers.

I won’t go on about the spec as this can be found on Wilson’s website but needless to say this is a highly engineered speaker with all Wilson’s 50 years of expertise put into practice into a speaker that for me is such the right size for this county and as I always say there is real magic in the Wilson mid which is so apparent in the WATT/Puppy, they give a big full sound that just feels so right and engaging so if you would like to come in for a demo please feel free to get in touch anytime.
