It's been storming for days here so here's some of my favorite ways to tie storms into witchcraft:
Storm water can be a very strong additive to spells and should be used sparingly as too much can make things volatile
Plants LOVE rain water so give your indoor plants a little treat
Storms are a great time to do emotional works. Meditations and spells meant to help release emotions work better during storms I have found
Some people use storms as a sacred time to pray, cleanse, clean, and worship
Storms are also a great chance to practice some skills or study
Candle magic!

spell jars 101 ✧
Tumblr media
how to craft a spell jar:
cleanse your jar
gather your ingredients
charge and program them, and then add them to the jar
close and seal with wax, ribbon, string, etc. to finalize and cast the spell
decorate your jar however you'd like, or not at all - up to you
what you can use as a jar:
tiny glass jars with cork lids
mason jars
pickle/pasta sauce jars
old medication bottles
food storage containers
bead storage tubes
what you can add to a spell jar:
dried herbs
dried citrus peels
dried flowers
magical powders
small crystals
gem chips
essential oils (a drop or two will go a long way)
infused oils (carrier oils such as olive or grapeseed oil that have been infused with herbs)
a few drops of charged water (storm water, war water, sea water, holy water, rain water, moon water, sun water, etc.)
paper (with sigils/symbols/glyphs drawn on it, an incantation, a name, a phrase, etc.)
coins
beads
glitter or confetti
seashells/shark teeth/sand, etc.
leaves/acorns/sticks/bark/moss
animal fur, nail clippings, teeth, or whiskers that have fallen out naturally (if i catch you trying to pull out your pet's whiskers or fur, i will fight you)
nails, glass, pins, needles, thorns, and other sharp objects (great for cursing, binding, banishing, or protection)
vinegar, lemon juice, pickle juice (mostly for “souring” a situation)
honey, sugar, syrup (to “sweeten” a situation or for attraction)
pretty much anything that fits and corresponds to your intent
what you should avoid putting in a spell jar:
unless your intent correlates with the contents of the jar spoiling or going bad - don't use anything biological in nature (think bodily fluids), don't use fresh produce or herbs, and be mindful of water content inside the jar. you don't want a moldy, biohazardous mess on your hands (unless you do, then that's cool, too).
what spell jars are good for:
containing your spell, theoretically making it easier to manipulate and control
manifesting goals/intentions continuously or over time
passive manifestation that doesn’t require much ongoing participation from the caster but is subject to regular maintenance
what to do with your spell jar once it’s been crafted:
keep it on your altar
keep it in an area that's appropriate for goal manifestation (for glamours, keep it in the bathroom; for sleep or dreams, keep it in the bedroom; for safe travels, keep it in your vehicle; for cursing, keep it concealed in a black box; etc.)
wear it as jewelry
put it in your pocket, purse, or backpack
bury it in your backyard or within a potted plant outside (for spells you don’t plan to undo or want to last indefinitely) - if burying is not an option, hide it somewhere on your property
leave it at a crossroads
recharging spell jars:
shake it up
light a candle on top of or next to it
submerge it in a bath of herbs or crystals that are associated with energy
submerge or surround with sea salt (a natural conductor of energy)
anoint with oil/blessed or charged water
pair with a tarot card or rune stone that matches your intent
suffumigate with incense smoke
energy work and visualization
disposing of and reversing spell jars - when you feel like the spell has done its job or you need to undo its effects:
remove the contents from the jar and either destroy them, bury them, or throw them away
for items you wish to save, cleanse them thoroughly before using them again
take the jar and cleanse it in whatever manner you choose and either save it to be reused; or dispose of it safely

types of spells and ideas for methods of casting [long post]
attracting
fill a small jar with honey and add a written statement of intent to the jar - seal and set the jar in direct sunlight to manifest your intent
stir your morning coffee or tea in a clockwise motion while focusing on the intent of what energies you wish to attract for the day
fill a jar with herbs and crystals that represent what you want to attract and add a statement of intent
charge a crystal and wear on your person to attract certain energies
create a sigil and either draw it on yourself or on paper and keep in your pocket
create a talisman, charge it, and wear it to attract various energies
banishing
take an item that represents what you wish to banish and: throw it in the trash, flush it down the toilet, burn it, bury it, drown it
burn the item and sweep the ashes out the back door or bury them
carve the name of what you want to banish into a black candle and let it burn down completely - bonus points if the candle is anointed with herbs or a binding oil
transmute negative energy into a stone (preferably a black stone like onyx) and throw it over the fence in your backyard (or whichever direction is south in reference to your home)
stir your morning coffee or tea in a counter-clockwise motion while focusing on the intent of what energies you wish to banish for the day
using incense that is associated with banishing negative energy, walk around your space in a counter-clockwise motion with the lit incense in your hand
binding and sealing
wrap a string around a poppet or other representation of the target or item you wish to bind
put the poppet or other representation in a plastic bag filled with water and freeze it
place the item in a black box and seal it - store in a dark place or bury the box in your backyard
write the item you want to bind on paper and seal with wax - keep safe until the bond is broken
perform a tie-breaking spell
blessing and consecrating
anoint an object with holy or blessed water/oil
use spring water to bless objects
place the object in a dry bath of herbs or flowers that are known for blessing
pass the object through incense smoke that is associated with blessing
use a censer to consecrate a place or a room
cleansing
leave the item in the path of direct moon, sun, or starlight
place in a dry bath or herbs or flowers that are associated with cleansing
place the item in a bowl of sea salt
pass the item through incense smoke that is associated with cleansing
pass the item through running water
anoint the item with a cleansing oil or charged water
bury the item in soil for 3 days so it may be “reborn” when unearthed
place a cleansing crystal on top of or next to the item
hang a wind chime outside of your home to negate negative energies before they have the chance to enter your home
physically clean and freshen your space - dust, mop, open the windows and let some fresh air inside (you can view this as an "out with the old and in with the new" situation)
cursing
fill a poppet with baneful herbs and crystals, seal it, and store in a black box
add baneful herbs and crystals to a jar with a piece of paper that states the target’s name or a description of them and seal it
create a poppet or other representation of the target and destroy it (commonly by burning)
utilize martian or saturnian energy for baneful magic
stab the poppet with pins and needles
curse an item and "gift" it to the target
dreams and sleep
fill a sachet with herbs associated with restful sleep and peaceful dreams and hang above your bed
place the sachet under your pillow
wash your bedsheets and sleep clothes with a few drops of lavender or chamomile essential oil
alternately, choose fabric softener that is lavender scented to wash your sheets or sleep clothes with
create a sigil for peaceful dreams or dream recall, charge under the light of the moon, and place it under your pillow before you go to sleep
utilize lunar or neptunian energy in dreamwork
mugwort, peppermint, or valerian root tea before bed for vivid, lucid dreams
chamomile tea before bed for restful sleep
lemon verbena (vervain) tea before bed for dreamless sleep
when bathing at night, create a sachet that matches your intent and place in the bath or shower
glamours
utilize energy from venus and pluto for beauty and transformation but also neptune for illusions, mysticism, and confusion
anoint the containers of beauty and hair products with venus (beauty) or pluto (transformation/metamorphosis) water/oils/herbs
leave the item you wish to cast a glamour on under the full moon
charge a talisman with the effect you wish to have on others and wear when you go out for the day
add pluto water/oils/herbs and moon water to a bath for a full body glamour (write your intent with bath crayons on the tub or shower wall for an extra boost)
create an energetic shield over yourself in which the outside mirrors what you want others to perceive of you
goal and wish manifestation
write your intent on a bay leaf and burn it
turn your intent into a sigil and store it in a jar filled with herbs or other items that represent said intent
place a written description of your goal or wish in the center of a crystal grid using stones that are associated with manifestation and power
place a coin in moon water while focusing on your wish or goal (leave container under direct moonlight overnight so that it may charge)
light a candle whose color matches your intent and while focusing on your goal or wish, blow out the candle
add a catalyst to your spell
use energy from mars (power) or jupiter (luck)
personal power and effects
create or enchant a talisman that represents your intent, charge it, and wear it on your person
add herbs that are associated with personal power to a ritual bath
create a potion from herbs associated with power and drink in the morning for a boost during the day (think caffeine)
use a catalyst in the aforementioned activities
utilize whichever planetary/cosmic energy you see fit
warding
sprinkle a mixture of protective herbs around the perimeter of your home while walking clockwise
leave protective crystals at each corner of your space
hang a protective amulet above the door to your space; wear a protective amulet for personal protection
create a protective witch bottle and bury near your front door
plant herbs or flowers that are associated with protection outside at each corner of your home
draw a protective sigil or symbol on the outside of your front and back door with saturn or protective water/oils
hang witch balls or a witch’s ladder near your front door
create an energetic shield and place over yourself, your loved ones, or your entire home
wealth, prosperity, and luck
craft a money bowl and place it at the farthest left point away from the entrance of your home
involve mercury or jupiter in your spellwork (luck, money)
anoint candles with mercurial or jovian oils and/or herbs and burn on wednesdays or thursdays (ruled by mercury and jupiter)
use prosperity/luck runes or craft sigils to carve into candles
on the first of the month, you can do the following: say "rabbit rabbit" for good luck all month and let that be the first thing you say when you wake up; blow powdered cinnamon into your front door from the outside or place a cinnamon stick above your front door for prosperity
craft a crystal grid using prosperity/lucky crystals - where you place it is up to you
please be wary:- of putting essential oils directly on the skin or on items that your skin may come in contact with- of leaving crystals in prolonged sunlight (might fade) or exposed to liquid (might dissolve, might become toxic when dissolved)- of blowing cinnamon into a home or using incense that has pets, or humans with respiratory issues- ingesting/burning/touching herbs/plants/etc. that you are not familiar with (could be toxic, could affect the efficacy of your prescribed medications, could be harmful for pets or other members of your household)

Low-Energy Ways to Work with Nature and her Spirits:
Look outside. That's it - just open the curtains and see the sunlight, find the trees outside your window and watch the birds.
Put on a documentary or youtube video about a cool animal, ecology, the natural world etc
Talk to nature - whisper, talk out loud, say it in your head - just talk. Compliment pretty flowers, chat about how creepy but cool you think spiders are, picture light dancing off morning dew.
Trace the shapes of leaves/flowers/animals etc on your bed sheets or skin - try to see how many different shapes make up the natural world, find the patterns and fractals within them
Learn the name of one new local plant a week! Just one a week! If you have the energy, research a little about their ecology, history or medicinal uses
Make a flower crown/daisy chain/leaf crown
Take up nature photography - you don't need a fancy camera, jsut your phone!
Collect some shells/rocks/bones etc!
Just sit outside! can be just outside your front door, next to an open window, or in the woods (whatever you can manage)
Take your daily activities outside!! Read in the garden, eat your breakfast under the sun etc
Create art from nature - paint rocks, press flowers, create patterns using feathers or leaves as paintbrushes/stamps
Cloud watching!
More High Energy Activities:
Go for a walk or hike outside and take some offerings. Introduce yourself to the trees and plants and streams and leave them a gift.
If there's one nearby, visit a local farmer's market and buy some local produce; honey, meat, vegetables, fruit, etc! Chat to the sellers and talk about their practices and produce
Do a small spell outside! Find a secluded, comfortable spot and invite the spirits to observe your spellwork - let them get used to your energy and way of working
Make a small diary of your time outside! Don't worry about filling it in regularly, just whenever you have the energy! Write down when the bees start coming out or leaves return after winter. What plants stay during the cold season?
Research local plants and come up with your own correspondences based on their ecology/medicinal use/folklore etc
Go on a walk to see what plants and animals exist in your area! Research them - are they native? Invasive? What is their ecology? Medicinal uses? Even the most urban areas tend to have some wildlife!
Join a local facebook group for birdwatching!
Research your area and figure out what plants or animals would be native, or used to live there - create artwork or something to honour and remember them
Research gardening groups nearby - some cities will have volunteer gardening projects or local groups that help maintain natural spaces! See if any would be feasible for you to join and get out there
Join a local allotment or community garden if you have the means - do some weeding, plant some tomatoes, say hello to the coal tits nesting in the old shed!
If you have the means - invest in a hardy houseplant! Name it, research its care and talk to it! Make a ritual out of watering and talking to it.
Take an online ecology course! Free courses exist and can be super interesting!
Watch youtube videos on a favourite taxa and make notes - build your own knowledge at a pace you're comfortable with on the things you're interested in!
Invite some nature spirits in for a meal - cook something you enjoy and set the table (if you can) for the spirits. Enjoy a meal with them.
Please add any suggestions you have below and I can add them! Everyone has unique energy levels and capabilities, but I hope that I've given people a quick idea of things they can do, if they want!

how to enchant items 🔮
to enchant an item is to infuse or fill it with energy. in witchcraft, this is commonly done with intent or to serve a specific purpose. this energy can come from a variety of sources, including celestial bodies, elements, crystals, herbs, or even yourself.
some individuals use the words “enchant” and “charm” synonymously as a way to describe the process of infusing something with energy, but for the sake of this post and due to my own beliefs, you enchant something and it then becomes a charm. alternately, a charm can be something with its own innate energy, like a crystal or herbal amulet.
enchanting items to turn them into magical objects involves more than just intent - you must learn to channel and manipulate energy, and direct it into that item for enchanting to be successful.
all that aside, the process of enchanting is extremely versatile and there are many ways to do it.
here are a few ideas on how to enchant items, in no particular order:
surround the item with corresponding herbs or crystals
place the item in a jar filled with corresponding herbs or crystals, seal, and set aside to "charge"
place the item in front of a colored or scented candle that corresponds to your intent and meditate
anoint the item with an oil, charged water, or crystal elixir of corresponding intent
hold the item in your hand(s) and visualize it filling with energy; you can also speak or sing your intent aloud and play music if you want
craft a sigil to keep near the item in an envelope or sachet
sew, stitch, or carve a symbol into the item
write your intention on paper and keep in an envelope with the item; bonus points if you add a tarot or oracle card to the envelope
bury the item in a mixture of soil and corresponding herbs
pass the item through incense smoke
pro tip: time your enchantments with the appropriate planetary hour, day of the week, time of day, or lunar phase to increase your chances of creating a successful charm.

Do Spells Expire? Understanding Magical Decay and Maintenance
If you’ve been in the magical world long enough, you’ve probably experienced it:
That once-strong jar spell gathering dust on a shelf. A talisman that used to pulse with power now feeling strangely empty. A working you did last year that just… fizzled.
And you wonder: Do spells expire? Do I need to redo it? Should I throw it out? Is the magic gone?
These are valid questions — and important ones. Because spellwork is not always set-it-and-forget-it. Magic has movement, rhythm, and yes… an expiration date.
So let’s dig in.
Tumblr media
⚡ First: What Is a Spell?
Let’s strip the fluff and be real: A spell is an intentional act of energy manipulation. It’s you working with the forces of will, emotion, spirit, and nature to create a desired effect.
You are not simply “wishing” — you’re co-creating. Think of it as pressing your will into the world with the assistance of energy currents, spiritual allies, and symbols.
But like any force in motion, a spell isn’t static. It has a cycle. It begins. It builds. It releases. It integrates. And eventually… it either settles into the fabric of reality or fizzles out.
⏳ So... Do Spells Expire?
Yes. And sometimes, they’re supposed to.
Magic isn’t permanent. Spells are energetic constructs, and energy fades, shifts, or changes form — especially without attention or intention. Some spells are designed to last a week. Others for a moon cycle. Some for years. But no spell is completely immortal (and if you think it is, you might have a spirit contract you didn’t read).
Let’s break it down.
🔮 What Determines a Spell’s Lifespan?
Every spell is unique, but a few core factors influence how long it lasts:
1. Purpose & Design
A simple candle spell for focus? Likely a short burst.
A complex ancestral warding? Could be years with proper upkeep.
A love-drawing mojo bag? May shift as your heart shifts.
2. Fuel (Intent, Emotion, Will)
Spells are powered by your energy. If you half-heartedly cast a spell while doomscrolling or emotionally detached, the fuel tank starts near empty. But cast with emotion, clarity, and full presence? It’ll hum for longer.
3. Anchors (Tools, Ingredients, Spirits)
A spell anchored into a physical object (e.g., a charged ring) may hold energy longer.
Spirit-assisted workings may require upkeep or offerings.
Organic materials break down. Oils evaporate. Strings fray. That’s all magical feedback.
4. Environment & Interference
Living in a chaotic household? Are you constantly hexing and unhexing? Do you have magical parasites, jealousy, or external interference? All of this feeds off or disrupts your work.
🧭 Types of Spells & Their Natural Decay
Understanding what kind of spell you cast gives you a timeline to work with. Here’s a general map:
🔒 Protection Spells
These act like energetic shields or barriers. Whether warding a home, veiling your energy, or blessing a car, they wear thin with time and contact. They need monthly recharging at minimum — some even weekly if you’re under spiritual attack or psychic burnout.
Common signs of decay:
More accidents or bad vibes creeping in
Nightmares, sleep paralysis, or psychic “leaks”
Intuitive sense that your house or body isn’t sealed
💸 Manifestation & Attraction Spells
These depend heavily on alignment. If your values, goals, or vibration shift after casting — the spell might backfire, misfire, or fall apart.
Example: You cast for a new job, but secretly fear success. The energy gets split and stuck. Or you cast for love, and two months later you're in a completely different emotional place.
🕯 Banishing, Hexes & Reversals
Often designed to decay after impact. If these linger too long, they can create energetic sludge or rebound. Think of them as magical antibiotics — use when needed, then clear.
🌿 Healing or Self-Work Spells
These act like energetic medicine. When you heal, the spell dissolves. If the wound is deeper, it may need layering or reapplication. But healing work always transforms — which means the spell must, too.
🔁 Signs a Spell Has Expired or Needs Maintenance
Ask yourself:
Does this spell still align with my current goals and desires?
Do I feel numb or disconnected from the working?
Are the physical components breaking down or smelling off?
Did I get results… then things stalled or reversed?
Has my intuition been nudging me to revisit or redo it?
If yes, your spell is likely decaying or has already expired.
🛠 How to Maintain & Refresh Spells
Think of spell maintenance like oiling a tool or watering a plant. You don’t have to do it constantly — but it matters. Here’s how:
🌕 1. Sync with Moon Cycles
Recharging your spells on the full moon, or resetting them on the new moon, keeps them alive and responsive.
🧹 2. Cleanse Magical Tools
Dust, stagnant energy, and old intentions can stick. Cleanse your altars, jars, and charms regularly. Smoke, sound, salt, moonlight — whatever works for you.
💧 3. Reinfuse Intention
Whisper over your charms. Feed your spell jars with herbs or oils. Redraw sigils. Add drops of your essence (breath, spit, tears, etc.). Magic thrives on attention.
🔥 4. Retire When Ready
If the spell has served its purpose — thank it, release it, and dispose of its materials respectfully. (More on this below.)
🌬 Releasing Expired Magic
Letting go is magic. If your spell has run its course, don’t cling.
Here’s a simple Releasing Ritual:
Hold the object or visual of the spell.
Speak gratitude aloud: “Thank you for the energy, for the work, for the shift. I now release you back to the elements.”
Burn, bury, dissolve, or recycle depending on what feels right.
Cleanse yourself and your space afterward.
This clears the path for new workings to enter — fresh, focused, and aligned with who you are now.
🌌 Final Thoughts: Magic, Like All Things, Has Seasons
Spells expire not because they “fail” — but because you’re evolving. The energy around you is changing. The magic is asking to be renewed, retargeted, or released.
Just as you wouldn’t wear last year’s coat in midsummer, you shouldn’t expect a two-year-old spell to fit your current life perfectly.
Check in. Refresh. Retire. Rewrite. Repeat.
That is the rhythm of real magic.
So… do your spells expire? Yes. And that’s not the end of the story. It’s the beginning of your next great working.

Simple Spell - Full Moon Wish Jar
Tumblr media
Intent: To harness the power of the lunar cycle for the manifestation and fulfillment of wishes.
Materials:
Small Jar with tight-fitting lid
Chime candle & fire source
Oil for sealing
Herbs and Items representing your wish
Ideal Timing: Waxing or Full Moon
Find a clear space to work. Make sure it’s free of fire hazards. If possible, try to work near a window through which you can see the moon. (If you don’t have one, that’s all right too, since you’ll be setting the jar out for the moonlight when finished.) Light your candle, focus your intentions, and get to work.
Select herbs and trinkets which fit inside the jar to represent your wish. For example, if your wish is for money or prosperity, you might include coins or small craft gems. If your wish is for health, you might include vitamin pills or a charm representing medicine. Check your books for herbs or crystals that correspond to your wish as well. This is your wish - make the spell your own. The contents of the jar can be whatever you want.
Use the materials that resonate best with you, but remember that your focused intention is the most important component of all. If desired, you can write your wish on a dried leaf or a piece of paper to give the spell a clear direction to work in.
Some common plants associated with wish-making include:
Bamboo
Bay Leaf
Blue Violet
Dandelion Seeds
Dogwood Petals
Nutmeg
Peppermint
Sage Leaf (any color)
Sunflower Petals or Seeds
Once your jar is complete, drip three drops of wax from the candle into the jar and circle the mouth of the jar three times with the oil to seal the charm. Then cap the jar and seal it with wax. Leave your thumbprint in wax on top of the lid. Place the jar somewhere that it will be touched by the light of the full moon and leave it overnight.
The jar should work for about a month, or slightly longer if you’re working with a supermoon. When the next full moon rolls around, you can recharge the jar by leaving it out overnight again, or make a new jar with a new wish.
