CAS Final Reflection

Considering my whole CAS journey, I truly enjoyed discovering new skills and undertaking challenges the most. They allowed me to enhance my abilities, such as cooking or baking, which are extremely useful. I also improved my stamina and started enjoying sports much more. I found tracking my progress incredibly rewarding because due to documenting and describing my experiences, I was able to identify my strong suits and areas for development. One of the biggest lessons I understood during CAS was the importance of my choices. Over time by doing any form of service, I learned to be grateful for all of my privileges and share them with others. Through CAS I achieved many goals, however, the two accomplishments I am most proud of are volunteering at the Hospital in the McDonald's foundation and the collection of items for the animal shelter "Na Paluchu". I did not devote as much time as I would like to these activities, due to schoolwork. However, what is more important is that I gained awareness about the importance of helping out, and I definitely want to continue volunteering in the near future. Regarding the learning outcomes, I found LO 1 and LO 4 the easiest to achieve. Identifying my own strengths, allowed me to grow and expand my skills especially cooking and working out. I enjoyed CAS also because it pushed me to commit to certain tasks, such as regular exercising am trying out new recipes. The hardest LO for me was the 5th one, as I do not enjoy working in a group. However, I believe it is beneficial for me to get out of my comfort zone.

8. LO 7

Volunteering at the children's hospital and organizing the collection of items for the shelter helped me consider the ethics of my choices, and be grateful for what I have. I also decided I would help the animal shelter as much as I could since I am not able to adopt a dog, and I am passionate about helping the animals.

6. LO 5

The two CAS experiences that proved to me how important collaborative work is would be the collection of items for the animal shelter and my CAS project. If it wasn't for my schoolmates - who brought the items, my mom - who helped me carry the boxes, as well as my friend - who came to the shelter to support me, I believe the collection of items would have been a failure. The same goes for my CAS project, which would be impossible to conduct without my friends, even when it comes to managing the children and watching them in the museum. We also all speak different languages, and collaborative work helped us improve our communication with the students.

The two examples, which show my commitment to the tasks are working out at home and baking/cooking. I practiced these activities ever since my CAS journey started, and I was committed to expanding my skills, thus I performed these tasks each month.

4. LO 3

The biggest achievement that showed me how to plan a CAS experience was collecting items for the animal shelter. Deeply touched by the issue, I encouraged my schoolmates to help out and managed to donate many items to the shelter. The second CAS experience was organizing a birthday dinner for my mom. It was based on my creative skills—cooking, which I enjoy; however, organizing it was quite challenging.

3. LO 2

The two CAS experiences. which had me undertake new challenges and develop new skills, writing articles for Vogue Poland and bicycling. Before starting my internship, I'd never written an article (besides for school). This was challenging to me, as it was an important task, in which I was not experienced in. I also tried bicycling, after despising it my whole life. Hitting 16km on a bike definitely showed me that I achieved my goal, and developed new skills.

2. LO 1

The two CAS experiences that helped me identify my strengths and areas for development are baking and working out. I started DP1 with low baking skills, and through conducting many recipes I learned to do better next time, by identifying areas for growth. Sports also helped me acknowledge in which areas I am good, and which I should improve. If I were to say which areas I developed in, it would definitely by patience (baking) and stamina (working out).

February SERVICE - donation of items for the shelter

In addition to organizing the collection, I donated some of the items mentioned on the list myself. I bought 24 kg of dog food, as well as some toys, which I delivered to the shelter "Na Paluchu" when giving the items donated by my classmates.

February SERVICE - animal shelter collection

In February, I decided to organize an animal shelter collection for the second time. This time I gave my schoolfriends more time to bring the donations, as collecting as many items as possible was truly important to me. Thankfully, the box was full by the time I drove to the animal shelter "Na Paluchu" in Warsaw. My friend decided to join me and offer help. I am very grateful that I am able to help the shelter, where over 500 dogs are waiting for a house, which I currently cannot offer to any of them.

February ACTIVITY - working out at home

In February I started regularly working out using an app, created by Ewa Chodakowska. My sister first showed me her exercises a couple months ago, but I decided to focus on these exercises in February, as I started loosing my motivation and discipline. Her exercises definitely help, as they are the most exhausting and challenging I've ever done, but also the way the videos and app are constructed really gives a kick and motivation. My sister visited Warsaw as a form of vacation from her work so we enjoyed working out together too.

February CREATIVITY - cooking

Besides preparing the special dinner, I really focused on my cooking skills this month. I focused on trying out new and more challenging recipes, which besides from developing my abilities also definitely made my family happy. Some of the things I made were dinners, a Japanese dish - onigiri, and birthday waffles for my mom’s birthday morning.

February CREATIVITY - birthday dinner

My mom's birthday dinner came up in December, and I wished to do something special for her. I thought of creating a fine-dining experience, with a few courses me and my sister made, as well as setting out the table and creating a menu, just like in a restaurant. We started by brain-storming about the menu, going shopping and then we spent the whole day creating the special dinner. The cooking was very exhausting and challenging as these were some recipes I've never tried before. I made salmon tartare, blinis, as well as lobster, while my sister focused on the dessert. The whole dinner turned out amazing, and although we failed a couple times when preparing the tartare, the whole meal was great, and I was very proud of myself for setting a goal and achieving it.
