you know what? let’s talk about rafe cameron.

stop what you’re doing right now, and go back to episode 9, “the bell tower”, time stamp 14:33.

this scene is absolutely heartbreaking, to say the least. it fucks me up every time i watch it, and i’ve watched outer banks FOUR TIMES. drew starkey does an outstanding job during this scene, and i truly applaud him for it. grammy worthy, i tell you.

this scene was when my heart was softened to rafe, and i was able to see past the drug addiction, past him shooting the sheriff, and past all of his toxic and violent tendencies. i saw past the bad boy facade, and actually saw a little boy in him.

it’s clear that sarah cameron is ward’s favroite out of of the 3 cameron children. he seems to perceive her as his perfect little girl who can do no wrong. it’s also clear how ward perceives rafe, as nothing but a fuck up.

“you understand why i did it? you were in trouble, and i was protecting you. okay? me, dad. rafe. not sarah, okay? it was me”

in this moment, you see it in his eyes just how broken he is. you see the little boy in him; the one screaming his dad’s name, begging for attention, but never receiving it. you see just how much that affects him. you see someone who just wants an ounce of love and recognition from his own father.

then, when ward hugs him, he almost doesn’t know how to act. it’s like he can’t believe it, probably because something like that coming from his father has never happened before.

everyone feels so fucking bad for jj, which don’t get me wrong, we all should! his dad is a piece of shit, but why can’t we show the same amount of sympathy for rafe? sure, his dad doesn’t beat him like him jj’s dad does to him, but WARD MADE RAFE FEEL SO INVISIBLE AND UNLOVED THAT HE FELT THE NEED TO SHOOT SOMEONE TO GAIN HIS ATTENTION! and even then, ward was more concerned about keeping sarah quiet than what rafe was doing.

i’m not excusing what rafe does. shooting someone is not okay, and showing extremely violent tendencies isn’t okay either. but i don’t think rafe would’ve turned out the way he did if ward would’ve treated him like he does sarah— if he would’ve shown him even an ounce of love growing up.

rafe wants want every kid wants from their parents, some fucking love, and he isn’t wrong for wanting that.

Entertainment Spotlight: Madison Bailey, Outer Banks

In addition to starring as Kiara in Outer Banks, actress Madison Bailey​ is currently recurring on NBC’s Council Of Dads and recently had a recurring role as Wendy on the CW’s Black Lightning. In her free time she likes to sing and and spend time with her 6 siblings. Do you have any headcanons about the character that you play that shaped your portrayal of her?

I think there are a couple of things that are said on the show like about Kiara’s kook past, and it’s never really said, but I think Kiara was full kook at some point. I think she pretends to hate it now, but I think at one point, she was all in. You know what I mean? She had the money, there’s no way she didn’t like, lean into it a little.

If you were stranded on an island, what would you bring with you?

 One thing I would bring on a desert island…I’d bring a machete. I’d bring snacks, I’d bring trail mix.

What moments from filming would an Outer Banks blooper reel include?

The Twinky breaking down every. Five. Seconds. The Twinky is our car, our van that we’re driving. If I had a dollar for every time the Twinky just wouldn’t start on time. It’d be an impactful moment, and we’d be like, get out, get in the car, and skirt…it’s like, it didn’t work. We would’ve gotten caught multiple times, it was like, close, multiple times!

What kind of treasure would you want to find in real life?

I would want to find….I just wanna find cash, if I’m gonna be honest. I just want to open it up and just be like, a shit ton of cash.

What’s the most reckless thing you’ve ever done?

 Not allowed to talk about it! I’m just kidding. I’m from the south, so four-wheeling in any situation where you’re not supposed to is sketchy.

Can you tell us your favorite on-set experience, on or off-camera?

Honestly, all of them. I think it’s just all the small moments in between takes that makes being on set [really great.]

Do you have a favorite trend or meme from the 2010s?

From the 2010s? Oh, that’s bold! I like the girl sitting on the bed, she’s like, with sunglasses. That’s me every day. I’m just like, waiting for my friends.

ok, i have to say it. why the fuck did Kie end up with Pope???? that girl had more chemistry with literally every other character. JJ and Kie should’ve ended up together in season one, and here’s why.

*give me a heads up if i get any facts wrong, i’ve only watched the show once all the way through, forgive me babes*

Kie very clearly shot down Pope because what they wanted in life was so different. All the things Kie listed she wanted to do in life are things that JJ would do with her without a second thought!!!! Pope might’ve said he would, but can you really picture Pope on a camel?? and for him to give up what he wants and worked so hard for for a girl(while they’re in high school!!)is disappointing.

the fucking hot tub scene. now, i realize that boys and girls CAN be just friends (a majority of my friends are guys) and they’re allowed to just comfort each other without anything going on between them, BUT THIS SCENE, YOU GUYS. I have never held on to someone as tightly as JJ was holding on to Kie, no matter how upset i am. to back up my point, Kie comforts John B in a couple scenes, and Pope tried to comfort Kiara in one scene. and none of those scenes have the desperation or intensity that the hot tub scene has. just saying.

THE WAY THEY LOOK AT EACH OTHER WHEN JJ IS WALKING INTO HIS HOUSE AND KIE IS WAITING IN THE CAR
