Live Project For this project we were asked to find a client and arrange a shoot that filled the clients needs. I got in touch with a student from the hair and make up department who required a photographer to take images of her final design. The client requested a body length shot and some head shots of the hair and make up. I enjoyed this project and having someone to work for. Overall i am pleased with my finished images and the client was happy with the end result.

A Gift For this project we were given an object (gift) to shot in the studio. I was given a hair brush for this project i struggled i tried to be more creative with the object but i couldnt make it work with the things i tried so in the end i decided to go for the simplistic look and just used a coloured background.

Catch Me If You Can For this project we were tasked with photographing a live sports event and use a range of techniques such as freezing motion, blurring motion (panning) and a range of focal lengths. I found enjoyable i didnt think i would, because it is not the type of photography i see myself doing. The biggest challenge for this project was trying to capture a good shot, because of the constant movement. However i am pleased with my finished images and feel it was a good first attempt.

Clean White For this project we were asked to create a portrait in the studio with a clean white background. At first i found this to be a challenge as i could not get the back ground to be a clean white but after many many attempts i got it and now really enjoy using it and have used many times since this project. I am very pleased with how it turned out i feel it is a strong image.

Seeing The Light For this project we had to photograph four different people using different types of natural light and by using tools such as reflectors and flags to help control the light. This project pushed me out of my comfort zone a little, because one of the requirments was that atleast one of the people being photographed had to be a stranger. This was a chaĺlenge for me as i dont feel confident aproching people i dont know. However i enjoyed this project and will be using what i learned to help me with my graded unit.

Who Am I? This was one of the first projects we were given. We were tasked with photographing three images about you a self portrait, a significant object and a significant place to you. I found this project hard as i dont like being infornt of the camera and so i feel like i let that put me off of it a bit. I dont feel my images are as strong as they could have been. If i could do this project again i would push myself a little more and experiment a bit more with different techniques.

Movie poster research:
Safe Haven -
I like this poster, because it is simple the actors take up most of the image but you get a little background just enough to know what it is. I like how the title is big but suttle enough with the light blue colour not lot is going on but it is enough to catch your eye. I think this poster works well because the actors are the main focal point and your eye is drawn into them. The lighting is from behind and again drawing your eye to the center of the image.
Love Rosie -
I like this poster mainly because of the background i like how the flared light catches your attention. Again the light is from behind in this image but with it being flared it catches your eye and then draws you into the characters. I like the suttle title and the fact it is lower case letters. However i do not like all the other smaller writing about the image even though it is small i feel it is still distracting.
The age of Adaline -
I like how suttle this poster is even though there is a background image i like the fact that it is blurred i feel it keeps the attention on the characters. I like the lighting in this poster it looks very natural and the title is not to bold or distracting. I like how the male character is looking into the image and drawing your attention to the female (the main character).
Water for Elephants-
This movie poster has a little more going on in the background than the others i have chosen but it is suttle enough not to draw your eyes away from the characters. I like in this poster how the image of the two characters is further foward and at a higher view of the background making the portrait stand out and making that the point your eye is drawn to.
Me Before You -
This poster has a little less going on than the others the background is a simple sky image but it has most light inbetween the characters heads causing this to be the focal point i like that the only bold colour in the images i the red dress. However i do not like the title i feel it blends to much.

Almost nothing research.
For this research i decided to look at the work of Michael Kenna. Kenna is an English photographer very well known for his landscape work. His work is very minimalistic he uses long exposures in a lot of his work and these can last as long as 10 hours. With his work being so simple and having such a strong contrast i feel it draws people to it his work is so simplistic but powerful.

Catch me if you can research: For this brief we have been asked to create a canvas of six images from our chosen sport. These images have to have a range of different techniques used from freezing motion, panning, different focal lengths. I decided to use these five images as my inspiration for my catch me if you can project. I found these photos on google images and i feel they show a range of the techniques asked for in the brief.

Who I’m I Research
For this project we have been tasked with finding five different famous self portraits. During my research i found five self portraits which i really like by Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe, Vivian Maier, Kyle Thompson and Jo Spence.
From this list my favourite image from the five above is Jo Spence’s self portrait. I really like this image as i feel it shows her character and emotion through it she took this self portrait when she was dealing with breast cancer and the X is where the doctor marked to show which of her breasts would have to be removed. I love the power behind this image and the strength she showed in it and sharing it with people.

Clean White Research: For this project we were asked to find five clean white background portraits. I found my images on pinterest, i really like the look of these images and how suttle the lighting is on the subject. I picked images with a different range of body languages to them. From these images my favourite is the portrait by David Bailey. I love how he has her standing in the image. She is centred and her hands on her hips i feel this gives off a sense of control and attitude. I also like how Bailey has used the lighting to highlight her cheekbones.

Seeing the light research: For this project we were asked to photograph four different people using natural lighting. For my five research images i found them on pinterest. The images i have chosen have a range of different techniques often used when photographing in natural lighting. Some techniques used are, reflected light this is when light is bounced off of a surface and reflects onto your subject. This is often done using a reflector you can use this with three different colours gold, white or silver. Another technique used is flagged lighting, this is when something is used to block the light from hitting the subject causing a shadow to appear on to the subject. Also diffused light is another technique used when shooting in natural light this means to soften the light to give off a nice even natural tone. It removes harsh shadows from the subject.

Jimmy Nelson
Nelson started out his photography journey in 1987. When Nelson was younger his family sent him off to boarding school where he fell ill and lost all of his hair. From then on Nelson was bullied and decided he wanted to go somewhere where other people had no hair so he set off on a trip to Tibet on foot his trip lasted a year and when he returned his visual diary was published. Not long after Nelson had his work published he has been tasked with photographing many different cultures all around the world ranging from Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and many more.
One of Nelsons projects that i took an interest in was ‘Before They Pass Away’
“I decided i wanted to photograph 35 of the worlds last cultures as art as icons”
In this projects Nelson traveled to some of the most extreme parts of the world and not only photographed but lived and joined in with the cultural traditions of each of the tribes he visited. He looked at how life was for these people who were in remote parts of the world living and passing down traditions for generations and how different it all was from the modern day and how we live.
