Soap making is a hobby that is not too popular but, one that I find interesting. To start off, here is a list of some soaps.

Jewelry Making

Jewelry making is a simple hobby but has very rewarding and beautiful results.

There different kinds of way to make jewelers like resin castings as shown above. Resin casting is where they use various types of wires, beads, jewels, and different colored resins. This is just one of the many, newer, ways to make jewelry. To start this with this hobby, there are a few basic tools that you will need.

These tools will insure that your jewelry will look beautiful, professional, and stay together. Some of these items may be a little pricey but, one nice thing about this hobby is that you can sell your beautiful end results to someone who will wear and appreciate them as much as you do. Selling them and creating a business could be very beneficial, you could pay for all your supplies and possibly earn a little extra spending money.

If you do decide to start a jewelry making business, then sizing is very important. For example, necklaces- if the necklace is too big, it will fall right off and if it is too small, it can become a choker or just be too small to be able to physically wear. So before you even start making jewelry in general, make sure the size is right for whomever it is that it is being made for.

Jewelers making is a very rewarding hobby even if you don’t decide to sell your creations because of the end result. No matter what type of jewelry you decide to make, it will turn it beautiful and you will have a special love or appreciation for that jewelry because you made it.

Doll Repainting

Doll repainting is exactly how it sounds, someone takes a doll and changes it into something different by repainting the face, the body, and changing the hair.

This hobby has recently become more mainstream, with YouTube having hundreds of thousands of doll repaint videos uploaded every day. Doll repainting is a beautiful hobby that turns mass manufactured dolls into something one of a kind. Some people take dolls and turn them into real life people as shown above (turning this monster high doll into Cara Delevingne).

With this hobby, comes supplies that the majority use, such as Mister Super Clear (MSC), pastels, and water color pencils. These simple supplies are staples of this hobby. Despite having seemingly simple supplies, doll repainting is a very long, and complicated process. First what you need is a doll you want to repaint and what you want to repaint it as. Then, you must take all the factory paint off and depending on what hair color and hair-do you want your doll to have, you might have to take all the hair off the doll; this means cutting the hair off close to the head and then removing the head from the body to pull out the last of the hair and the glue put in the keep the hair in place. After that, you must put your first three layers of MSC to have a good base to help adhere the make up on the doll. After this, you then start painting on the face with a mix of pastels, watercolor pencils, and watered down acrylic. While doing the dolls face, you will need to respray the doll with MSC multiple times to keep your work clean and to not mess it up and to help be able to build colors on the dolls face. This process can take days to complete due to the fact that the MSC must dry completely and depending on hair many layers you desire spray, it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours to completely dry which means it take days to finish a doll face up. After doing the dolls face and spraying it with the finishing layer of MSC, you would move onto the hair. There are two different ways to re do a dolls hair: 1. To completely re root the doll with new hair or 2. To make a wig for the doll by glueing on hair wefts to a wig cap to create natural looking hair. Once you have chosen the option you prefer, you would finish the hair which could take up to 2 1/2-3 hours. Lastly, is to style the doll. You can buy the dolls outfits, shoes, and accessories online or, if you choose to, you can make them yourself. If you do choose to make them yourself, there are many, many clothing patterns for all types of dolls online. Once you finish styling the doll, you are complete. This entire process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, but it would definitely be worth it because you would have your own, one of a kind customized doll.

Music

Music is hobby that you can both enjoy making and enjoy listening to. It is also universal, there is something for everyone- from rock, to country, to pop, to rap, to classical- there is something for you, it is just a matter of finding it. Music is beautiful, some people having a very keen ear for music, some have a beautiful voice, some are very talented with instruments, or maybe they just like to listen to it and sing along off key, no matter what, music is a universal language.

Everyone has their preference of music, some love rap, some love rock, some love Latin music, or some even country (a lot of people hate on this but I personal enjoy it [dont @ me]). There is something out there for everyone, everywhere. Some people like music for its catchy tune/ beat, or for its meaningful lyrics, but no matter what you like it’s out there.

For every genre of music there is, there are infinite amounts of music artists that range in talents from having the voice of an angel, to having the capability of writing amazing songs. Just like there are music artists that are well known in their genre but there are also artists that are known and loved world- wide for their amazing capabilities like The Beatles, Queen, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Prince, and so many other amazing and talented individuals and bands.

Every generation goes through it’s music phases, this generation is going through a pop/ rap phase, where what is mainstream and widely like is played on every radio station and in every store in many places. What is mainstream now is mostly either pop, rap, or a combination of rap, and along with these genres come the popular artists, like Drake, Beyoncé, XXXTentacion, Cardi B (a recent addition to the music world), and Ariana Grande. These are just a few examples of who are popular for this generation of music.

To wrap it all up, music is very diverse and is something everyone, everywhere can enjoy, this is because of the many, complex genres of music with their many music artists. As every generation grows up, what becomes popular changes often, currently it is a mixture of pop and rap. As great generations of music come and go, great artists of their time emerge. Music continues to impact and be impacted upon by the people and society.

Baking

Many people enjoy baking because they get to eat what they make, it’s calming, and it passes time. I remember baking cookies with my mom and brother it it was always fun because we got to bond together and make precious memories. The only downside sadly but was that it always hot in the kitchen while baking, surely a small price to pay.

You can bake many things, from delicious pastries like cookies, brownies, and cakes to savory things such as Shepard’s pie, Pizza, and much much more. Baking is a delicious hobby where you can eat your creations and show off to your friends your amazing creations. The internet for better or worse is littered with this and for the most part, it is always fun seeing peoples creations. But things like that can also inspire one to take some time and try and make something similar which can lead to so much more.

Because of the insane popularity of food creations and photos, many have taken to youtube where they can make tutorials on how to bake or bake more specific items. In all honesty it is often better than a cook book as most often than not the person will show in detail what they did so you can follow (something a cook-book cannot do). But baking isn't always just a hobby and many take it to the next level and start bakeries to sell what they make. This is a very large industry as you can find different bakeries for different types of cuisines. When it comes to family ran bakeries, most often than not. This is not the only career as it is a great means of having fun and spreading joy and making some extra side-cash for the hustle.

There are many reasons as stated earlier to why baking is so great. Many like to taste test their own creations. Others like to compare their creations to others in contests, and some just like to make things. And that is the joy of it, there really is no limit to what you can make. Now whether it taste good or not is another thing. But usually there is someone out there that will enjoy it. Cooking is also calming as there are stories of it helping maintain someones depression and helping them focus on happier and more subtle things. Baking/cooking really does work wonders.

Cooking is so popular there are many shows and television channels dedicated to it. Just watching people cook and compete is in its own a great way to pass time. Its always great seeing your favorite chef critique the hell out of some “rubbish” meal someone tried their hardest making.

Overall, baking/cooking and just the entire world of culinary arts is a great thing that really helps many people in many ways. It is fun, meaningful, and contrary to popular beliefs is not boring at all. Many people have even made names for themselves thanks to their talent in this, and with that brings many people entertainment. Without any of this, the world and our culture would be a very different and quite honestly bland place.

Outdoor Activities

Its always good to leave the comfort of your home and explore. Its in our blood to travel and go on adventures. Many people use outdoor activities which is a very wide variety of things as their hobby. This can be anything from hiking all the way to fishing or kayaking.

For many outdoor activities are an escape from the real world. Lots like to challenge themselves and test the limits of the human body and others do it for the beauty of nature. But they all have one thing in common, that one thing is something I am not doing right now. They are outside embracing what our beautiful planet has to offer.

Mentioned earlier was people testing the limits of the human body. This is often done in extreme marathons where people will literally run hundreds of miles just to say they have done. But this just proves what we are capable of. But the great thing is, it is mostly done just to say that the person has done this insane thing. Some other extremes can be rock climbing and mountain climbing. Both are exceptionally dangerous but many do it for fun and for thrills.

On the other end are some gentle and calm activities which are things like [non-professional] fishing, or long walks in the woods or short jogs. Even kayaking can be considered lighter as the majority aren’t kayaking through river rapids and are just sailing through calm lakes or streams. Even things like swimming at the beach or surfing can be more casual or subtle hobbies as they are very fun and are of course outdoors. But surfing can be a little more extreme as many surfers try to find and ride the largest wave possible, but even the conditions of the ocean can be rough too as things like shore-break toss you around onto the sand or rocks and riptides that can take you far out forcing you to use all your strength to get out of them. But most often these are done to pass weekends and spend quality time with the family.

But for every activity listed there are those that of course take it to the extreme and live them or those that do it every two weeks and enjoy them while they last. And quite honestly, the ladder sounds nicer to me, but to each their own.

There are many outdoor activities that weren't even in this blog but are still just as much of a “hobby” than any other. Maybe I will discuss them again shortly in the next upcoming weeks to come. This has been HobbiesHobbiesHappiness by Alora Bearden, I hope you enjoyed :D.

Reading

For some reason, many people do not like reading, but it is my biggest hobby. Reading takes you to a whole other world, universe, dimension, way of life, and so much more. For me, curling up on my bed with a blanket and reading a book all day is heaven, but it isn’t for most people. I think this is because most people never find the genre of book they love, as there are very many. There is sci-fi, history, narratives, fiction, non-fiction, magic, horror, mystery, fantasy, and much more. For many people, especially students, they will get out of reading however they can, unlike those who love to read who often carry more than one book and will spend every spare minuscule millisecond they have, to read. Not only is reading a fun thing, but something good for your brain.

Reading helps stimulate the human brain, it increases vocabulary and can help you re- charge from a hard or long day from work, school, or of just life in general being extremely taxing. Reading books in certain genres such as history can also help you gain a lot of knowledge on certain topics such as wars, different cultures, a particular persons life, and a lot more.

Although, reading doesn’t always necessarily have to go be just about history, reading is supposed to be something that you enjoy to do, not just a chore someone assigns you. This is where the many genres come into play. Not everyone likes to read sci-fi or horror books, some people prefer to read non-fiction books or fantasy books. Finding the right genre for you is what changes ones perspective of reading from something they dread doing to something that they look forward to doing. Along with these genres come famous others and books, such as Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit J.R.R Tolkien, Stephen King with his many, many books who is a huge author in the horror and mystery genre, the list goes on and on of all the famous books and authors but these are just a few that many know for their amazing talent of writing.

Reading is something everyone should give a second chance if they don’t enjoy it, try different genres and authors to find out what you like.

Sports

There are many different kinds of sports from football to baseball to volleyball to tennis to soccer to rugby, there is sport for pretty much everyone. My sport of choice is volleyball, and I will be partly focusing on that because I haven’t played other sports and rarely watch other sports.

First I am going to talk about the basics of (almost) all sports; teamwork, dedication, and practice. Most sports require at least two people playing and it is these sports where you need to work well with your team and make sure you cheer every member on to get them fighting in the game, this also relates to dedication. You need to be dedicated to the sport in order to keep fighting to play, to win, and to get better- sports are supposed to be fun but if you have a team member who isn’t dedicated and there to go at least 80% all the time (because no one can go 100% 24/7), this will bring the team down because if one person starts to give up, everyone will. Practice is also extremely important, if you don’t practice you won’t improve and in order to improve and have a good practice, you must be dedicated and to help everyone be on the same page and dedicated, there must be teamwork. This all leads together, so if one thing falls through, it all can.

Volleyball can be an intense sport, but it is a lot of fun, especially when you get a perfect kill (kill is a really hard kind of spike) on a team and they can’t get it back, in fact I had that at my last game. The setter finally gave the ball to me and I hit a perfect ball right to one of the other teams players who got scared and ducked which gave a point. There’s times like that in every sport where something happens just perfectly and makes everything worth it and that’s the best feeling.

If you can’t play the sport it can also be a lot fun watch sports, you get a very similar thrill watching your favorite team score a touchdown, a goal, or a home run. Many people enjoy watching sports because they get that thrill of winning without having to do anything physical. People of all ages, around the country, around the world even, get together to support their favorite teams and to cheer them on from behind the television.

Gaming

Gaming is a hobby that pretty much every teenager has nowadays. Many people play games such as Fortnite, Destiny, COD, Halo, GTA V, etc. These games are some of the most popular games and franchises of the video game world. The main platforms used to play games such as these are PC, Xbox, and Play Station. One of the biggest debates in the gaming community is which of those three platforms are the best although I will not be going into this today.

Gaming is now considered a kind of profession since it is now considered a sport, being named “e-sports”. This sport brings together the best of the best from many, many different kinds of games and pins them against each other to see who is the superior at that game. This sport is not too different than the other sports in the idea that they have state wide games, nationals, and even globally played games. These games are brought into an arena center that has all their equipment so that judges and bystanders can watch the watch match. These gamers are often rewarded with money, company partnerships, and sometimes scholarships. Many high schools now have an e sports club or team so that they can compete in these games to become the best of the best and to prove themselves. Gaming is no longer just a time consuming hobby but is now a full time job not only for esports but for gamers on YouTube and Twitch.

Gaming has a massive community and millions of viewers on the platforms YouTube and Twitch. Many people start a channel just to show off to friends or just for fun, but once in a while a lucky person will attract more and more viewers and this is especially true for gaming. Everyone loves to watch play throughs of games they’re interested in, tutorials to play the game, cheats and secret codes, and so much more. These people on YouTube either have their personas that everyone falls in love with or they have amazing game play and it’s fun to watch. Those people thrive on these platforms and only attract more and more viewers which brings in more revenue and the more their channel grows, companies start to want to partner with them. In this case it’s usually gaming companies such as Xbox, PS4, Blizzard, and many other different companies get in contact with this people and will partner with them. These gamers make a profession out of nothing and quite frankly it’s amazing how such a simple and fun hobby can bring so much success and joy.

Make up

This week I am going to be talking about makeup and the make up community

This last week I have been exploring with make up to see what the hype was all about and I loved it! Make up is a fun way to express yourself and try out new styles but it can be on the more expensive side depending on what you buy. Make up is fun to experiment your style and what you like to look like. The interesting and helping thing is that there is now Youtube where you can find just about any kind of make up look in a lot of different languages and from different people, now including people with different genders which is a quite drastic change from just a few years ago.

Up until recently make up has been an “all girls club” but guys have recently joined this scene and its amazing to see the kind of skills everyone has. There is lot more options for make up as well, long lasting, glittery, matte, lipstick, eye shadow, eyebrows, lip stains, highlighter, foundations, this list can, quite literally, go on forever. The “beautubers” (beauty youtubers) that I previously mentioned have made a product review on just about every beauty product there is out there, which is very helpful when trying to find a product with very specific attributes or if you are planning to buy a specific product, you can find before hand if it is worth is or not.

Many people around the world enjoy doing their make up and every place has different make up trends. For example, the United States of America has a very different make up style than Japan. Japan, generally, has a much more natural look with light eye shadow, tainted lip gloss or lipstick,and a very basic foundation and blush application. Compared to United States of America or Canada where make up looks tend to be on the more generous side with very colorful, glittery, or smokey eyes shadow, a lip stick color that goes with it, fake eye lashes, very heavy, pointed eyeliner, and very noticeable contour and highlight. Japan and South Korean make up can also vastly differ when it comes to the different kinds of make up looks there are out there. It is amazing how diverse make up is around the world and how that has affected our societies, cultures, and expectations with people.

Gardening

Gardening is not an extremely popular hobby, but it is very serene. People enjoy this hobby both indoors and outdoors, here in California it is a lot easier to do this hobby outdoors because the weather is warm all year. Although, if there is too cold or warm weather, one could care for the plant indoors. There are many different plants people buy, cacti, herbs, or just flowering plants. Every person has their own preference, these plants also vary in difficulty. Cacti are a lot simpler to take care than an orchid, for example.

Many people prefer the cacti due to the fact they are so easy to take care of and they thrive in the environment as long as they have sunlight and the right amount of water. Although, some people prefer flowers, like daisies, roses, or sunflowers, or herbs like rosemary and cilantro. Choosing what plant to grow is based on the environment you have and how much experience you have with gardening. This is what leads to having a “green thumb”

For example, if you had just started out gardening, you would not want to buy a rose bush or an orchid, you would most likely want to buy some kind of succulent due to the fact that they are so forgiving. You also must do research on the plant or plants you want to get to make sure you have the right area/ environment and you know how to take care of it. This is the reason why many people think they can not garden, they do not do their research on the plant and inevitably end up accidentally killing the plant because they do not have the right amount of sunlight, water, or a big enough pot.

Having enough room for a plant is also another part of growing plants. If you were growing pumpkins, for example, you would need a large garden for these pumpkin vines because they grow to be long and large, and if you do not have enough space, the plant will die. The same will happen to small plants with too big of an area, if you buy an orchid and put it in a flower bed all by itself, it will most likely die because it had too much room.

Gardening is a beautiful hobby that has a lot of factors you need to understand to have success, such as water, environment, space and sunlight. You must also have enough time to care for these plants, you need to have enough time to be able to water these plants and make sure environment is right for them,

Embroidery

Today we are going to be talking about the beautiful hobby of embroidery!

If you have been on Instagram recently I am sure you have noticed that embroidery, crotcheing, knitting, and all different times of crafts are coming back into style. Embroidery is a personal favorite of mine, it is fun and relaxing after a stressful or even an uneventful day, it is just a nice thing to do to end your day. Some people still think that these kinds of crafting and hands-on hobbies are for “old ladies”, when really it’s for everyone young and old.

Embroidery also something similar to starter kits, which is a kit that comes with everything you need and a pattern that can range from beginner to advanced. There are also many different kinds of stitches, such as, the most basic, running stitch, the back stitch, the chain stitch, and much, much more.

The one part about embroidery most people find annoying or unpleasant is the repetition you must do in order to finish the piece. Some of the more intricate and advanced embroidery prices can take many hours. Although, some people very much enjoy the repetitive and time consuming nature of this hobby.

It is very rewarding to be able to work on project one project and being able to see how everything came together to create one beautiful piece. It is also a lot of fun going o the hobby stores to pick out different colors and shades of embroidery threat and fabrics. The supplies are also fairly cheap, one thing of embroidery thread being about 97 cents you buy and a yard of fabric around $2-3 depending on the brands you buy. You could even buy different kinds of scrap fabrics, you can find some really nice fabrics the more you look, for even cheaper at Joan’s in the scraps or clearance bin. I am always on the hunt, looking for different kinds of fabrics in those bins because sometimes you find some really good quality and amazing fabrics for very cheap, although, getting regular yards of fabric for full price works too. One awesome things most craft stores do is having coupons for the different hobbies. Stores such as Hobby Lobby and Micheal’s always have either a 40% or 50% off coupon for all regular price items, and if you really look carefully sometimes they have 70% off certain clearance items, such as the scraps I have been talking about, usuing these kinds of coupons can save you a lot of money in your crafting, and can lead to being able to buy a lot of different colors of threads and fabrics which is always good to have.

Art- Digital and Physical

Today, we are going to enter the wormhole that is art. Art is a very beautiful hobby that many enjoy, wether it is something they do daily or just whenever they have the urge to paint or draw or if it is there job or something they are studying. First off, there are two different kinds of art I am goign to be talking about today, digital art (where they draw or paint something on an online aplication) and physical art (where they draw on paper suing defferent medias). Both different types of art result in beautiful works of art from average people who have a talent or a knack for art.

There is a descrimination between the two different communities of artists, those who use physical mediums and those who use digital aplications. Some believe that using digital aplications is “cheating” and/or not “real art” when really that is untrue. Digital deserve the same level of recognition and praise as those who use physical mediums. Digital art just compiles all the different tools and mediums that we buy at an art or hobby store, but they would just have to buy those aplications online.

Now, Lets talk a little bit about my favorite medium of art, watercolor. In my opinion, it is one of the most fun types of art because of the ways you are able to manipulate the pigments on the pages using different techniques, the way you can change the opacity of the color with how much water you use, how forgiving it is, ex. If you make a mistake you can easily just use a paper towel to clean up, and it has a pretty decent price range, you can get a watercolor set with a paintbrush for pretty cheap, or if you decide you want to go more in depth into this medium, you can buy proffesional watercolors, brushes, and paper at different places for not too bad of a price.

Many people, despite what medium they choose to use, feel as though what they created is “not good enough” to be posted, displayed, or shown, but it is, in fact, the opposite. If you feel as though you wan to improve on your skills, then posting it may be the best thing for you, people online may be able to give you tips and tricks to help improve your art. All art is beautiful and something to be proud of, despite whatever “level” of drawing you are at.

Art is one one of the biggest hobbies out there because of how diverse the mediums and materials are and the different cost ranges and ways to do things. Personally, art is a hobby that I have enjoyed since I was young and still enjoy today. If you are looking for a new hobby, give art a chance, you wont regret it.
