dust.

it glows in the light, in the polluted arid haze

it is night time, and the red-orange-yellow-pink-green glow

streams out towards me.

you dropped me off behind the motel. there are

six dollars fifty two

cents in my pocket.

i have nowhere to go. backwards is you and your memory, and forwards

is the memory of you again, but this time

painful and in the past.

so i stay put. my knees are cool against my chin, my thighs

warm and crushed together with my calves.

the dust and grit and gum from the parking lot is hatching onto my clothes and my skin.

and the lights -

they are bright and vibrant and covered in dust.

have a hard time sleeping so turn the light on so early morning i wonder if the neighbor can see  in my window how my heart beats wild as a horse out in quiet nevada where the sky is weeping. my hands are so dry + constant in reaching. i kick off all the blankets, thinking  about being bitten. what words can i offer aside from here, now?

three million light years away, there lies an angel with curled wings and more eyes than you could count. their joy is heard in the sound of your tyres on asphalt, in the scratch as you skip to your favourite song on a cd. a laugh will catch on their eyelashes, a laugh that traveled miles from your glory - your split second unable to breathe at an embarrassing story kind of laugh. they will smile, they will turn their head to the sun and the light from your heart will warm others forever from now on.
