A change up!
We recently went through a key produced by a fellow collector to check out our Largamorph species. Going through keys are great for expanding knowledge and checking out things you may not be familar with.
We went through this key for a bit of fun thinking we knew the species already only for this one to cause a bit of a problem. It was sold to us in 2019 as a wild Rabbit that was an RTA victim.
However it didnt seem to fit in with European Rabbit, Id contacted the creator of the key as we've been in contact before and went through various different features before comming to the conclusion that it was a Mountain Hare! On contacting the original seller its believed to have come from an area with all 3 species of Largamorph so it adds an extra degree of possibility.
We checked out size, the shape and size of the holes in the palette initially. The tooth width was also examined and another indicator was the back of the skull which is missing the extra bone that Rabbits present with.
Always a good thing to check out your identifications from time to time.
