we had to make a story for a hypothetical comic book cover it would have and ofc i had to pick these ladies…. HAHA

wasnt super happy w how the final cover but i ADORED the exploration of these two, and mary and moriarity (which you can kind of see them in the mix of things but its very unclear i have a cool plot in my head and in my notes app but anyways………)

The Sholto that shows up in BBCs version of Sign is actually Major Sholto, who in the book canon is the father of Thaddeus (and Bartholomew, they're twins) Sholto (he's also dead in the book lol)! Funnily enough, his name is actually JOHN Sholto (basic ass name, prolly why he gave his sons such crazy ones), my guess is that they changed it to James just to avoid having two (three if you count the name Johnathan) Johns in the room :P

Yo Thaddeus Sholto is actually a real one. Absolutely no reason or motive for him to be invested in making sure Mary gets some of the treasure except that he's like "well, it's the right thing to do! ☝️🤓". At a certain point tho it starts to get ridiculous how badly he wants her to have the treasure like... Do you not want it that badly?? Started fighting his brother on it and everything. Tracks down her address to give her a single pearl a year until they ran out. Like at a certain point you DID realize mfs are trying to kill you over this treasure as well bc you hired some muscle but you... Still wanna bring this brokie girl into the drama?? 😭 She doesn't even WANT IT EITHER!! Mary used exactly ZERO of the pearls bc she had them as evidence to show Holmes in the beginning of Sign of Four... Everyone in this story is mad ungrateful the Thames was the most deserving of that treasure
