Since Duolingo is going all-AI I wanna switch apps to learn Japanese, I know you've answered a question like this before, but I can't find the post anymore :(
So uhhhhh, any recommendations? ':D
ありがとう、マーティンさん :D
Lingodeer I found a much better alternative to Duolingo in general
I've recently seen Bunpo recommended by one or two Japanese language tiktokers I follow, I tend to trust their judgement
Game Gengo on YouTube is a phenomenal source for Japanese learning with videos ranging from Genki 1 in full, through to singular nouns and the game playthoughs where he translates every single speech bubble
Then for some flashcard Kanji learning, WaniKani is great (so much so I've bought a lifetime membership on it)
Paul Noble's books - well I listened to the audiobook that has a pdf accompanying it - are great for getting sentence structure and phrases down for typical tourist interactions you'd have when visiting there
Then if you're old enough, apps like HelloTalk or even just finding local courses at a college can be super beneficial
Oh! Also once you've got some foundations down, reading and slowly translating books yourself meant for kids can be fun. Even low complexity manga like Polar Bear Cafe, Doraemon and the like can be good.
I also play stuff like Yokai Watch, Shin Chan and Pokémon to do slow translation stuff too due to repeated mechanics and phrases. Any game with furigana is a winner
I personally don't have the time or same benefit from watching shows or listening to podcasts. Sure it helps learn tone and inflections for some words, but it really is just a wall of noise where I'll occasionally know one sound. Feels pointless to me lol
Would love to hear anybody else's learning tools, hit em up! 🤙
