🏳️🌈 BOOK REVIEW 🏳️🌈
Icarus by K Ancrum
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
QOTD: What was your last five star read?
[instagram]
Review below cut
Gosh, this book was beautiful. Painful and lovely and aching and wonderful.
Icarus is such a palpably lonely character and I absolutely adored his journey over the course of this book. The way he learned to hug from his first friend. The way he couldn’t hold these people at arms length anymore because he loved them too much. The way he wanted so much, felt so much, and denied himself so much because of his father.
There were so many moments in this book that I felt so deeply. The morning Icarus wakes up with Celestina and Luca and the way that bonded them will be etched into my heart forever.
I loved the relationship between Icarus and Helios. My heart was racing through their escape scene. I loved them so much, their arguing and tenderness, shared meals and art and history, the way they were simply and complexly made for each other.
I loved this book.

i desperately need buck to find a ring hidden somewhere in the house after they’ve been living together for a few months and for tommy to find him frozen with the ring in his hand and tears in eyes…
“this isn’t how i wanted to do this.”
“how…how long have you had this?”
“…since we got back together.”
buck’s head shoots up, he stares at tommy as a tear drops down his face, he lets out a laugh that’s also a sob, and he just starts nodding
“yes”
tommy’s eyes widen as he inhales sharply
“what?”
buck steps closer
“yes, tommy.”
tears fill tommy’s eyes
“but i had a whole plan. a whole speech”
buck shakes his head rapidly
“i don’t need it. this is perfect.”
a smile breaks out across tommy’s face, his eyes crinkling
“yeah?”
buck laughs, giddy
“yes. absolutely, yes.”
and then tommy just grabs him and gives him a kiss that’s mostly just teeth and tears because neither of them can stop smiling and crying

🏳️🌈 BOOK REVIEW 🏳️🌈
Taste the Love by Karelia & Fat Stetz-Waters
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
QOTD: What’s a trope you love that you don’t read much of?

Review below cut
Thank you to Forever and Netgalley for providing me with an e-ARC. All thoughts are my own.
Marriage of convenience?! Sign me up!
This was such a fun, messy, sweet AND spicy romance. I loved it so much.
Kia is an absolute ray of sunshine. She just exudes good energy. She’s friendly to absolutely everyone and it’s impossible for anyone to hate her. She’s so sweet and so full of love and I adored her.
Sullivan is a bit of a grump. She holds her cards close to her chest. But she cares so deeply and she fell so in love with Kia it was sickeningly cute!
The entire plot with the mega food company made me so angry, especially when they came for Kia and Sullivan personally and tried to pit them against each other. But dang, did it make me happy to see them stand by each other regardless.

🏳️🌈 BOOK REVIEW 🏳️🌈
Vengeance Planning for Amateurs by Lee Winter
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25
QOTD: What’s the last book that made you laugh?
[instagram]
Review below cut
This was such a fun, silly, heartfelt read!
As the title suggests, this book contains amateur vengeance planning and it was an absolute hoot. Poor Olivia has had a string of terrible exes and so she hires a “henchperson”, the reclusive owner of the cafe/bookshop she sells her muffins to, to help her enact vengeance upon them. Each and every plan is absurd and goes awry, but they do manage to get their vengeance nonetheless.
I really loved this dynamic. I loved how Olivia’s sunshine personality juxtaposed Margaret’s grumpy personality perfectly. And I loved how they learned from each other, too. Olivia’s confidence grew over the course of this book and I loved watching her learn to stand up for herself. Meanwhile, Margaret slowly softening over the course of this book made my heart feel so full.
The side characters in this were all brilliant. They all had such distinct personalities and I love that everyone had their own specific role in the story.

Going on a rant below cut lmao
I hate when google is largely unhelpful and reddit is judgey cos those are my two go-to’s for advice on A LOT of issues from tech to personal.
But ugh my quad muscles are so weak and sore after a hike on Saturday that I can barely stand. And I know the second day is usually worse than the first day from when I used to go to the gym but this is the worst I’ve ever been
And all reddit gave me in response to some dude in the same situation is snark about how you shouldn’t start with such a difficult hike, you shouldn’t do something like that unprepared, etc etc. And even google’s giving me “prevention tips” (on top of rest and hydration which SIGH yes obviously but it just took me 4 tries to stand out of bed to go to the toilet lmao I guess there’s no better “remedy”)
And I’m like IF I HAD KNOWN THE HIKE WAS THAT DIFFICULT I WOULD NOT HAVE DONE IT! It was lovely and it did remind me how much I miss hiking (I used to go regularly before my CFS got as bad as it is) but jesus christ i haven’t done anything more strenuous than a set of stairs or two in over 2 years. The hike was sold to me as “more like a bush walk with a bit of a hike at the end” and it was definitely not that lmao. It was literally a near constant descent for half then a constant rise for half, 6.5kms total. I am in PAIN and I was UNPREPARED.
And also while I’m ranting cos it’s fucking 4:30am and I’m lying in bed and I can still smell last nights roast dinner cos no one thought to open a window bc I am the only person who does these things and I’m so tired of it 😭 it doesn’t help that I am, in general, exhausted and in pain. But god I am tired of being the only one who does shit properly.
And I’m looking at dad not mum obviously cos my mum’s disabled
But like I wanted a bath last night and normally I’m wanting a bath cos I’m in pain from CFS and I ask dad to clean it for me before I go in. I didn’t ask him to last night cos he’d already made dinner and was doing the dishes which is meant to be my job when he cooks. I can wipe down a bath myself. Yeah no that bath needs a fucking serious scrub and dad’s clearly ONLY been wiping it down for literal years, probably ever since mum got too sick to clean. It’s got spa jets, it needs proper cleaning 💀
So then I figured I’d get the broom I’d bought to scrub the bathroom/shower floor to avoid getting on hands and knees which always exhausts me more only to find that dad’s used that broom FOR SWEEPING despite me explicitly telling him not to use it cos it needed to stay hair/dust free to remain a scrub brush.
And my quads are way too fucked for me to crouch/bend the way I needed to to scrub it with a little hand brush
And when I told him he needs to buy me a new heavy duty broom bc he’s fucked mine he just thought it was amusing that I was annoyed??? And did NOTHING in the way of offering to help.
Anyway I’m exhausted and sore and in such a foul mood that I’d hoped sleep would help but I’ve woken up even more cranky 😅😅😅

Thank you Simon & Schuster Children’s and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC of this one. All thoughts are my own.
I wanted to love this more than I did. It started strong and the characters were likeable and it was definitely not a bad book. It just fell a little flat for me. I feel like I’ve read these themes, these characters, these situations so many times but done a little better.

🏳️🌈 BOOK REVIEW 🏳️🌈
Lakelore by Anna-Marie McLemore
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was such a gorgeous, unique book. It felt so magical to read, like the colours from the story were all around me.
I love Bastián and Lore so, so much. I love their transness and how that means different things for each of them. I love their unique brains and the ways they learn to work with them. I love the ways they opened up to each other, slowly in fits and starts, never easy. I love how they understood each other.
There wasn’t really much of a plot outside of these two characters working things out both together and individually, but the journey was beautifully written with some really gorgeous imagery, and I kind of like that the mysteries of the lake stay a mystery.

🏳️🌈 BOOK REVIEW 🏳️🌈
No Body No Crime by Tess Sharpe
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
QOTD: Do you enjoy thrillers?
[instagram]
Review below cut
Thanks to MCD Books and Netgalley for providing me with an e-ARC. All thoughts are my own.
This one was engaging from the start. A murder, a plane crash, missing diamonds, missing persons? Absolutely enthralling.
Both Mel and Chloe were great main characters. They were both really interesting. Both so tough because life had forced them to be, yet both so soft and broken too. I honestly would love more PI stuff with Mel because that had me so intrigued by her.
I loved Gigi and Whitney, too. They were absolutely brilliant and the mystery around Whitney was an extra layer that really drew me in.
I didn’t really buy the romantic relationship for most of the book, though. We’re TOLD they love each other, but until the end, I didn’t really FEEL it. But the ending they got was utterly lovely and put me in my feels a bit.
I felt like the Rick chapters were a waste of time. They provided nothing except some backstory with the peacock feud which, while terribly amusing, could have probably been covered in a better way.
All in all, a captivating feminist thriller.

🏳️🌈 BOOK REVIEW 🏳️🌈
Better Hate Than Never by Chloe Liese
⭐️⭐️⭐️
QOTD: What’s something you love to see on book covers?
The colours on this one are really beautiful!
[instagram]
Review below cut
This was…fine? There were parts I really liked and parts that just didn’t work for me.
I loved the way Kate discussed both her demisexuality and ADHD. I felt like both these things were addressed and represented well and they felt naturally a part of her instead of tacked on for decoration. I felt the same about Christopher and his migraines, too.
I loved the way these two opened up to each other emotionally. Their more frank conversations were some of my favourite moments of this book.
But I am tiiiiired of fictional broody men who are mean to women because they’re afraid of how they feel. Go see a damn therapist. And I am glad he DID seek therapy towards the end but he should have so freaking long ago. Nothing about his behaviour was sexy and I really dunno how she fell for him so easily.
I also just felt like a lot of the interactions outside of the romantic relationship were lacking, aside from an early conversation with her sister Bea.
