Brent Spiner Vs. LeVar Burton

Propaganda
Brent Spiner - (Star Trek: The Next Generation) - Not only is he a terrific actor, having created one of Star Trek's most iconic and beloved characters, he's a great guy in real life - witty, personable, wonderful to his fans (source: some lovely chats I've had with him at conventions); he is also an author - his book Fan Fiction (hehe) is a fantastic dark comedy, a semi-fictionalized telling of an... incident in 1991 - and he's a hell of a singer! He released a CD of 1930s and 40s pop standards (also in 1991) titled Ol' Yellow Eyes Is Back - see video propaganda
LeVar Burton - (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Roots) - as well as his wonderful performance as geordi laforge in next generation, levar burton had his breakout role starring as kunta kinte in the 1977 miniseries roots which set records for television viewership (its finale was estimated to have been watched by 130 million+ viewers, more than half the U.S. population at the time). he also directed numerous episodes of tng, ds9 (including the one where rom unionizes quark's), voyager and enterprise, and promoted literacy with his beloved pbs show reading rainbow, which he hosted for 23 years!

I’d do a poll about who the best chief engineer is but I fear many people would incorrectly vote Geordi or Scotty because they like them (good characters admittedly especially Geordi) while ignoring B’Elanna Torres’ unparalleled ability to merge alien and Borg technology with Starfleet’s while also optimizing Voyager’s existing technologies with little tweaks that really added up. Did she void Voyager’s warranty ensuring that no sane person in the Alpha Quadrant would ever want to travel on her post-series? Almost certainly (The micro-hull fractures make engineers across Starfleet shudder just thinking about it) but she got that structurally unsound ship home and I’m sorry Geordi you were my first special little guy but you could have never.

DS9 didn’t have to go this hard with a brilliant illustration of traumatic grief in the first episode

im so dead tired of self aware genre fiction. i dont want the snarky knight or the brooding spaceman to joke about how overplayed something is. gimme back unashamed affect. gimme dudes speaking in thees and thous and starship captains making poignant speeches and shit and stop fucking worrying about being seen by critics or the general public as shlock
