CITIZENS, yesterday I saw an hour and a half MONOLOGUE ABOUT GRANTAIRE where he talked about the revolution -and his cynicism-, Enjolras (GOSH I SWEAR THOSE WERE THE BEST PARTS) and his past.

IN THE MONOLOGUE, HE THINKS HE'S INSIDE A CONSCIOUS DREAM WHILE SLEEPING IN THE BARRICADES (spoiler: he was dead all along) AN YOU CAN SEE HIM WONDERING INSIDE HIS MIND, FINDING OBJECT THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH IMPORTANT THINGS IN HIS LIFE (a canvas, wine, Enjolras vest...) AND DURING THE MONOLOGUE YOU HEAR SHOTS AND GRANTAIRE GROWS MORE AND MORE CONCERNED WITH LES AMIS, TRYING TO REACH THEM (begging them to wake him up, to stop the revolution, telling them he'll stop drinking if that means that they will not leave him alone).

It was in Spanish, but I translated some of the quotes I liked and I'm gonna share them with you -please forgive me if the translations are shitty, im doing my best-:

"YOU BECOME A CYNIC ONCE YOU SHED YOUR LAST TEAR"

You were the only survivor, and standing there, surrounded by those armed guards, you were worthy of being in a painting of Delacroix"

the other day I was taking a walk when I saw this old guy trapped under a cart. people were trying to help him but it was too heavy so I stepped forward and lifted it off him (I work out a lot.) then, this old police inspector told me I had to be a convict because of how strong I was. I looked him straight in the eye and said, “it’s 1815. anyone can be strong, including non felons, women, and gay people. the only person who’s weak here is you.” he started crying and gave me fifty crowns while everyone clapped, even the nuns

I still don’t have everything figured out about his story, but I’d love to tell you about him!

Also, his character and story are based off of the song ‘Ballroom Kid’ by Bryan Scary. I really enjoy and recommend his music, check it out!

I don’t have everything about his story set in stone yet, but here’s a few things about him!

TW: A bit of transphobia, accidentally shooting and killing someone

• 14 years old

• Aroace and trans (ftm)

• Story takes place during the late 19th Century (Peak Wild West era).

• He has pretty bad anger issues, and can tend to act irrationally.

• His family lives on a farm a little bit outside of the village they’re near. It’s just his mother, father, and himself.

• Has one friend, Cole. They spend every day together, and he knows for a fact that he couldn’t live without Cole. They often get pressure from older folks insisting that they peruse a relationship with each other, which makes him uncomfortable for some reason. It’s not like he doesn’t like Cole, but he can’t imagine a relationship with himself like this.

• This made him realize that he wasn’t a girl, and that he was trans. Now since this is the late 19th century, he keeps it to himself (only writing it in his journal), and decides when he becomes 18 he’ll act on it, and finally choose what he wants to do with this realization.

• When his parents eventually find his journal and go through it, they confront him about what they find and tell him that in order to “change his behavior”, he needs to be sent away. He starts trying to come up ways to get out of this.

• He decides that he likes the option of running away the best. He needs all of his essentials and weapons to protect himself, so he goes to his parent’s room to take his father’s prized gun. Luckily for him, they are sleeping. Unluckily for everyone, the gun is loaded, and the kid doesn’t know how to properly use a gun.

• He accidentally shoots and kills BOTH of his parents while trying to steal the gun. He then realizes that he can never go back now, and this will be his life forever.

• He tries to go to Cole’s house to say goodbye, but he can’t get him to wake up. He gives up and leaves town for good.

• There’s a good year and a half where he’s by himself, just wandering the desert and looking for ways to survive. He’s gets into bar fights and robs banks, all while everyone back in the little village is wondering what happened to the family.

• They all believe that everyone in the family is dead, with the child being kidnapped. Cole refuses to accept this and goes off to find his best friend. He succeeds, but this person clearly isn’t his best friend that went missing a year and a half ago.

This is everything I have for his story so far, but I’m planning on coming up with a lot more. I have a few pictures of him attached to this post, but I’m also planning on drawing something more detailed so y’all have a better idea on what he looks like.

Also, y’all might be asking, “Does he even have a name? Because you haven’t referred to him with a name.” I’m going to be honest, he doesn’t have a name, and I chose it to be like that. His entire story is about growing up, accepting who you are, owning up to your mistakes, and understanding that you can’t change the things that make you, you, even if you want to. At this point in the story, he doesn’t know who he is. He doesn’t understand himself, so how could he have a proper name? He doesn’t want to accept the fact that he has an identity, so he simply doesn’t. And one of those ways is to not have a name.

In my mind, I’ve simply been calling him ‘(The) Ballroom Kid’ or just ‘Kid.’
