Most racist person you know: "NYC has fallen. We should evacuate and comfort our loved ones while we still have time. A Muslim won the primary."
#see this sounds like an exaggeration but it’s going to be exactly what’s in the news come morning#reblogged from a babe

Trans people don't need to disclose that they're trans to you before you date them but i definitely think cis people should start disclosing they're cis instead of just saying "im a girl/boy" cause dating a cis person is a commitment not everyone has the time for. Like buying a bird

underrated horror experience: realizing that somewhere in your marginalization you have become a Project for another person. the realization that something about your identity as a marginalized person can be used as a stepping stone to this person enacting the power fantasy of Healing/Fixing/Saving you.

most United Snakes leftists are completely unserious but the idea that the libs are the adults in the room is risible - there is no political group more divorced from reality, more adept at steering politics back into the domain of pure fantasy and wishful thinking than the respectable liberal

it’s particularly rich coming from this website and the people who populate it’s particular fan communities. was it connecting with the auteurs soul when you said ‘canon is dead and doesn’t matter at all and the characters are my dolls to play with however i want no matter what’s in the original text’
i think whats particularly fascinating to me about the 'soulless' argument against ai art is that it prescribes that the only thing you can--that there is at all to--engage with about art is the artists 'soul' . setting aside very real criticism of if this is a real thing or not and if its a real paradigm we should be using to talk about people (no and no), what if i dont want to engage with the artists soul? what if i want to engage with any other aspect of them, what if im avoiding their soul on purpose when i look at their work? what if im avoiding the artist entirely, what if im not looking at the work to 'connect with another person,' what if im doing it by and for myself. an artist does not need a 'soul' for me to create meaning in their work through interpretation. hell a work doesnt even need to be 'created' by any definition of the word--found art, anyone? its an attempt to argue that ai is insufficient and incapable in a way thats just kinda patently untrue and retroactively prescribes that artist-created-art (and therefore all art, as its the only kind of art thats real within the argument) only has meaning or purpose in a single valence. where i think if you started with making those prescriptions, that youre only allowed to engage with a work if youre not thinking about the work at all but rather about the artists eternal soul the entire time, people would be able to easily see that thats silly and reductive and just plain not true. which is not to say that art cant have a meaning based in interpersonal connection, sometimes that can really be the most compelling part of a work, but its certainly not the only one ever possible, and its certainly not applicable to all works. silly.
#which is not to say this approach is necessarily morally bad just#an obvious example of how the quote unquote soul of the artist* doesn’t practically matter in how we engage with art#although. yknow. i do have problems with this approach but that’s beside the point LOL#reblogged from a babe

much less alarmed by the 'cognitive impact' of LLM use than I am by the fact that so many people apparently believe your brain can atrophy or permanently lose function in the space of four months because you used fancy sparknotes to write a couple of essays

we can't even get a basic "all men structurally benefit from a misogynist society" to pass on this website without a bunch of queer men shooting themselves into a panic cause they get too uncomfortable about the idea of being culpable to self reflect. "feminist" website
