In the Single Digits!

We've officially knocked into the single digits of how many theory classes we have left! now counting about 6 classes of sitting in a room and acting like I know everything before I go onto my final placement and then i'm actually a qualified nurse?! holy shit?!

I'm so excited but so scared about it, It's bizzare to be going from studying and working a couple of days a week to get by to actually looking for a job that will become my career, it all feel very mature and adult and I am NOT ready.

Either way... 6 MORE CLASSES!! WE'VE GOT THIS!!

Post-Placement Blues

Placement is done, learnt lots, did lots! and pretty much as soon as my head hit my pillow on my last day... I've gotten tonsilitis! so now I am a walking germ-pool that is sleeping nearly 10 hours and when I am awake I'm shuffling around in a too-big blanket and running into things like a Roomba.

For some reason I assumed that once you become a nurse you just NEVER get sick? stupid right? Anyways, I'm on the mend! Antibiotics are doing their thang and I've goteen a couple of days off work which is pretty good!

Looking foward to a few well-earned days off before I get back into the theory classes, I honestly cant believe i'm nearly done?! I'm actually going to be a nurse?! Holy Crap!?

Ass-end of Finishin'

It has been a busy couple of months! oh boy!

I haven't kept up with this blog as much as I'd like to but to be honest, writing down my feelings and current events is on the back burner right now...

I'm going on my second last placement as of monday! I'm actually going to be on a ward which is a change, but I'm hoping that it's a quick pace enviornment that keeps me going and learning for the whole day (at least then when I sleep it will feel well deserved)

I'm thinking injections, more rapport building, more notes.... guh, so much! I'm truely looking foward to it though, the classmates I'm on the ward with are lovely and that will make a big difference I'm sure!

Sickness Becomes Me...

Oh boy, been a month, done plenty more work on ECG's and Vena Puncture, but alas, I have woken up and wish I hadnt...

I dont even know how I got sick but I just feel like death, sitting in class and attempting to nod along to an extremely long lecture about renal conditions whilst my head is still on my pillow.

I have sooo many assessments due in the next couple of months, and I havn't even made a dint yet, sigh.

ECG's Yay!

Going hard today, ECG's are finicky and complicated and hard to read but my god is it fun to be actually practicing some skills!

I think I've got the general idea of how to read ECG's, simply knowing how fast or slow is concerning to a point of making some calls and where to actually put the leads, which I did first try! (humble humble)

So excited woah!

back to it

Back in the classroom! I finished up just before christmas, I shut my laptop and have not looked at anything class-oriented since then, I just wanted to enjoy the time I had with the people I love, I knew I'd be stressing too much if i continued to click constantly through work.

Already in the deep end of it, Stiches and staple removals this morning, drain care and removal this afternoon! God I get so giddy just thinking about how close I am to finishing this course... crazy to think it's nearly been 2 years already...

Final Day! Hot Day!

Final day of the school year! god it's been a long time coming.

Only a half day but I reckon it'll be the longest 3 hours ever,It's already getting hot with a summer storm on the way.

It tends to drag these last few weeks, not much to do (and not wanting to do much). I'm still in denial about how close christmas is, haven't sorted anything out, just gonna take it as it comes this year, too crazy to try and run around now.

But forever thankful to be here, learning and loving what I'm working towards <3

Wound Managment! Woohoo!

Started our wound care and managment class and ohhhh boy its a doozy!

I love this stuff, the puss-ier the better for me, it's just facinating to see how the body funtions and how quickly things can go wrong without the right amount of care. It can be too dry, too moist, wrong dressing, wrong placement. So so soo many things!

Our teacher is extremely eager to show us all these different images of facinating wounds, which is much appreciated.

Its also nice to know that we'll soon be able to apply this knowlege into real life <3.

A current wound class disussion...

Assessor: Just be warned that when researching these wound terms you will find some gnarly images, proceed with caution. Student: It's just blood and infection and stuff, it's probabaly stuff we've all seen before anyway.

*proceeds to search up wound terms, continues down a puss and blood filled rabbit-hole* Student: oh.... oh man... Assessor: Please do this in time that you are close to a bathroom... this class does not come with a complementary bucket.

nearly there.

Nearly the end of the year! the weather is getting nicer, the classes are a lot more cruisy and I am soooo fucking ready to just pass out and sleep for 3 days.

I love that end of year feeling, once all the assessments are done, sitting in class and everyone is just relaxed, usually finishing early and just looking foward to the break <3.

My mental health placement was amazing, and extremely eye-opening, it was a nice change of place to be in a more therapuetic enviornment as oppose to a clinical one, and all the clients were so different, from all walks of life and different levels of needs.

It definetly felt like a breath of fresh air, and im so so thankful.

Spookiest of Seasons 𖦹

Nearly Halloween! soo excited to dress up and drink until I pass out. I'm thinking a cowboy/girl, but not like a sparkly, glamorous version, like a proper, dusty, gritty 'yee-haw' gun-slinger.

It'll be interesting to see how many people dress up as sexy nurses and burly doctors, being a nursing student I reckon it be entertaining... especially with a few drink in my system heh.

Kinda got out of my 'funk' from my mid-year blues and finally out the other side! with the weather getting nicer and the assessments slowly dropping off I feel like I'm due for a very long holiday... but alas, it's nearly time for yet another placement! mental health this time oh boy!

mid-years blues

Oh boy, Been one hell of a fucking year so far, I can't belive I've only got a year left in this course!

Assessements are piling up more and more, but I think I'm okay (proof-check that in about 2 weeks) and I think it'll all balance out eventually. Got a placement coming up for mental health which I'm looking foward to, I started this course becuase i wanted to go into mental health... I'm just hoping I can cope with i and that I find that I can handle myself in a clinical setting.

Other than that, everything is sailing not so smoothly, but thats fine!

Halfway There!

Been a minute, I'm aware i'm notoriously bad at keeping up to date with this blog... but alas... life simply gets in the way of my fun computer time.

I just finished my sub-acute placement with flying colours! which is a feat in itself, but that also means that I'm over halfway through my course!! omg! it was hard, and I hate having to wear the facemasks, but I really genuinely enjoyed it :). Back into the swing of things now though! uni and work and uni-work, not long until our next placement so I'm just bracing and waiting!

I really have goals this term to start finishing assessments BEFORE THEY ARE DUE ON THE SAME DAY!
