“don’t do that.” he said, with both a pout and a smile, “don’t force yourself to be miserable out of spite, that’s how you get wrinkles and regrets.” he took the last few sips of his drink like he was forcing himself through horribly tasting medicine in hopes of relief on the other end of it. somewhere in between the first and the last of it, alcohol stopped burning his throat and decided instead to paint his cheeks a lighter shade of pink. “i have. it’s something else, isn’t it?” the magic was not in the fact that the restaurant was uniquely beautiful in some profound way, but in how exceedingly ordinary it was and still— sunlight hit the inside of the place in all the right ways. “i do. i probably bought something off of you too, i like having pretty things. i am, however, not educated at all.” theo smiled, like that was a profoundly charming aspect of himself he was more than happy to share. “not if you mean formally educated. never been enrolled in a university. i just take up little interests here and there. i don’t know much about modern art or anything that happened more than four hundred years ago. i do have an encyclopedic knowledge of impressionism though.”
“you’re forcing yourself to drink something you don’t enjoy, how is that different?” thadd asked, arching a brow at the other man, small smile teasing at the corners of his lips. ““it was something magical, that’s for sure. just being somewhere that the greats have been always has that touch of magic to it.” thaddeu slipped out of his misery just long enough to enjoy a conversation about the only thing that brought him joy these days. “i never mean just a formal education. there are so many other ways to become educated. four years listening to some stuffy old guy droning on and on about something he has so little passion for only to get a piece of paper at the end doesn’t mark the only education. you could be self-taught, you could have taken local non-college classes. you could have just been born with the itch to learn and get everything you know from documentaries. impressionism, though, it’s a bad choice. i am partial to more post-impressionism. myself.”

“ thank you. i appreciate it. ” theo smiled, not a hint of sarcasm in his tone. “ see, ” he bit into his fries, all too self satisfied. “ didn’t i tell you that it was hard to be miserable around me ? i’m a delight. ” a small laugh rolling off his lips. “ the veiled lady. ” repeated with some reverence added onto it. “ it’s pretty, isn’t it ? i always liked things that don’t look like what they actually are. silk that’s actually marble. violin solos made of synthesizers. thousands of tiny little dots and brushstrokes to make up luncheon of the boating party. ” something more, something that wasn’t what it looked like. “ six. ” he shook his head with a smile. “ what are the chances i have been to them already ? ” the chances were very small that he hadn’t. and still, somehow, theo stumbled upon the man not at his place of work, but at a random small bar. “ of the all the things there are to own in this world, art is a good one to choose. ”
thaddeus quickly fixed his expression, pushing the joy, the excitement and happiness from his face. delight or not was still to be determined but thaddeus, but he did happen to catch thadd in his favourite topic. the one thing that brought him that joy, excitement and happiness. “ pierre-auguste renoir. have you been to maison fournaise?” thaddeus asked, arching a brow at the other. it had been one of the locations he visited when he was in his twenties, a brilliant restaurant along the Île de Chatou. “you visit many of the galleries in town? i have six here, but i have more in other locations. art is my life. it’s all that matters to me, besides my family.” he said, though as soon as the words were out of his mouth he regretted them. “how well educated are you in regards to art?”

“ then tj it is. ” theo announced with a smile. “ i know i don’t have to, but i like to commit to my bad decisions and this… ” he took another sip, shook his head. “ god, this is a terrible decision. ” he chuckled. theodore had never really liked anything with lime in it. — the barman, apparently, felt the precise opposite way. “ wow. art. ” his smile only really widened at the revelation. “ art. ” like he was suddenly both impressed and interested, like the man beside him had accidentally stumbled onto something that meant more for theo than he might have thought. “ okay, let me work on my memory skills here, i have always been bad with names. rafaelle monti, that’s… the veiled bride ? silk etched into marble. that’s a good choice. ” theo nodded. “ can i try to guess ? you own a very expensive gallery. did i get it right ? ”
thadd tried to hold back the small smile when theo settled on his nickname. thadd was all he had ever been called, beside his full name, and mr. james of course. “i’ll buy you something better for the next one.” thadd said, taking another sip of his drink. “yes, art.” he hummed, not quite sure that theodore would understand it in the way that thaddeus did, only sasha got art the same way that he did. and that was because of how he had raised her. “the veiled lady. and he also has the veiled vestal. which is my favorite of his.” thadd grinned properly, someone knew something he hadn’t seen coming. of course, van gogh and cézanne were gimmes. he picked out monti. “six, actually.”

it’s day 8000 of taking care of these sick kids. kid 1 had pink eye for a week, went two day healthy before his older brother caught it. so it’s week two of taking care of the sick boys. with the older kid though, it’s not all movies and ice cream for breakfast, as today he has to read for an hour and do math problems. did i just print multiplication tables off the internet? yes. did i find ones with answer guides so i didn’t have to do math? also yes.

with a lingering glance at the driver, kayko gripped tight onto the straps of her bag. this could be a bad idea, but how much worse could it be than hoofing it on their own? popping open the passenger door after an exhale, kakyo slid onto the seat, closed the door, and reached for the seat belt. “thank you. you may not think so, but it really is very kind of you.” not many would pick up a stranger these days. “my name’s…” should they give a fake name? she blanked on one. “kayko. how about yours?”
ursa gave a quick smirk, of course the other thought she was nice. she chuckled when they hesitated. “you don’t have to tell me your real name, you seem like you might be on the run or something. that’s your business, not mine. i’m not a cop, and i don’t know you from adam. i’m ursa, though, or major. whichever floats your boat.” she said, nodding as she focused her attention back on the road.

she had never felt any sort of resentment towards him whenever he asked to leave a place early or even just flat out skip the event altogether, never wanting to press the male into something that would make him uncomfortable. “ah!” the redhead let out a surprised yelp when her body was pulled onto the couch, immediately shifting to rest herself against his chest with a loving sigh escaping her lips. “because you always have good taste. you seem to always choose the right movie or right song for the evening.” with that, she reached to grab the remote from the table, searching a moment before finding a playlist that wouldn’t be too loud for their calm evening. “i adore you.”
“i hope you do, because i am hopelessly in love with you, and if you didn’t adore me, that would make this whole thing a little awkward, don’t you agree?” he teased, brushing her hair back so he could nuzzle into her neck for a moment, placing soft kisses along her skin. she was perfection, or at least as close as people could possibly get to perfection. “what did i do right that landed me in your life?” he asked, holding red as he shifted to lay down on the couch. “did you have fun tonight? i know how excited you were to see everyone.” he asked pulling back enough to look at her properly.

What Crystal Are You?
SUVI NYGARD - rhododnite you have a quiet strength about you. you're the one that's there when your friends need that last push. your grounding energy is comforting and reliable. you have a gift for encouraging and strengthening those around you, helping them heal their wounds and find it in themselves to endure. you know how because you've been there before. when was the last time you opened up about your own struggles without it just being to help someone with theirs? when was the last time you let yourself think about your pain without using it as a comparison? you're allowed to let people help you heal too.
LUCIEN O’MALLEY - black tourmaline you have a strength to you that has been hard earned. you don't hesitate to cut out the parts of you you despise, you're unafraid to call out others. your bluntness can off-put people at times, but you're unwilling to compromise your personal code. once your loyalty has been earned it is not easily shaken. you're a protector and you purge away anything you believe could harm you or those you love. when was the last time you relaxed, though? when was the last time you let down your guard? there is just as much strength in vulnerability.
THADDEUS JAMES - snowflake obsidian you are all grit and closed fists. you refuse to let anything in through the cracks of your armor. you would burn the world to protect those you love. the heart of a warrior burns in your chest. and it also weighs your shoulders down. what is the price for being so strong? what have you sacrificed to make yourself feel safe? when was the last time you let someone see your soul? when was the last time you let someone see you and not just the masks you hide behind? not everything must be a fight.
GRACELAND KAYA - blue calcite valuing emotional intelligence, you're good at calming those around you. you have a way of putting words to feelings others can't quite verbalize. you spend so much of your time nurturing others, expending energy in your efforts to keep a peaceful environment. you're often undervalued and unappreciated until people need something from you. when was the last time you spent as much energy on yourself as you do on everyone else?

“ Has no one ever told you that it is rude to ask for ladies poison.” A laugh escapes her lips, enjoying herself far more than she expected.” Surprise me, I will drink whatever you order me unless it’s a glass of water, then I will politely decline.”
“not a single person. i’ve been let down, clearly.” thaddeus laughed, the smile on his lips more genuine now. “my apologies, i’m thaddeus.” he offered, turning to the bartender to order her a boulevardier before he offered his hand out for her to shake. “i would never order a water in a bar, that seems almost criminal.”

“ do you not like it ? ” theo smiled, tilting his head to the side, an honest question. “ owning, tj, is an stative verb, did you know that ? it describes a state of being rather than an action. i have blue eyes, you own a whole string of different business, all the twenty four hours in our days remain vacant. i continue to not know what you do for a living. ” and then with another sip of his drink, one that got the same exact reaction out of him, distaste, flinching, oof, he shook his head, “ i know, i know, very pedantic, but what can i say ? you are cynical and miserable and not hateful and i am a stickler for details. ” he took a bite of his fries. now that, that was way more enjoyable. “ i am not fishing for anything, by the way, i am asking you things, is all. what do you like doing then, is that a better question ? what makes cynical, miserable thaddeus smile ? ”
“not at all, it’s different.” people were too afraid of thaddeus, which was how he preferred things, but when people were too afraid to be themselves, to act casual and make friends, it meant he hadn’t had any sort of nickname since he was in school when he was young. not including anna or sasha’s nicknames for him of course, they were the closest people in his life. “you know, if you don’t like the drink, you don’t have to drink it.” he mused, but then he decided to take a leap, no idea what kind of leap, but a gamble regardless. “art. art makes me smile. art is what i do. rafaelle monti, vincent van gogh, paul cézanne, jean-paul riopelle and francisco galeno.” thadd hummed, he could keep listing them, that wasn’t even a list of his favorites, just the ones he had handles more recently.

“Excuse me?” Elanor looked at him surprised.” I’m not looking for trouble but clearly you have been waiting for it, sorry to tell you that I’m not interested but I could for a drink.” She says with a smile.
“could be interested?” thaddeus laughed, he certainly hadn’t expected her. “i can do a drink.” thaddeus held a hand up to the bartender, ordering himself another drink before glancing over at her, “what’s your poison?” he asked with a clever smile.
