i think all the best sci-fi is the sci-fi that looks dirty and lived in. like yeah we could have space travel and lasers but people are still gonna leave dirty cups by the side of their sleep pod and get weird alien mud stuck on their boots and put off fixing that faulty light on the lower deck of the spaceship. its relatable. its humanizing.

She would have been much older as she was married for 10 years, so by the number of 27, she would have had to marry at 17 (which is plausible at that time) and then married Boaz right away. I am sure there are grieving periods as well to follow. Naomi and the others remained in Moab until the she received word that the Lord had come to the rescue of his people in Israel because of a famine. We don't have a specific time frame.
I am more inclined to lean toward Boaz being younger than 80, especially since the bible does not give an age. We do know that he is older than Ruth as he was well established in the community and a relative to Elimelich (Naomi's husband). They may have been closer in age (like 40 and 50).
The marriage of Ruth and Boaz was a little different as Ruth wasn't married off for virility reasons, but he was the kinsman redeemer. This duty falls up the next male in line in order to ensure the widow is properly taken care, and if the widow was young enough so she can produce a child to carry on for the deceased husband. Being a kinsman redeemer was a big deal and as we know from scripture, one relative wanted nothing to do with fulfilling the task because it could endager his own estate.
Again, all of this is all conjecture about age as the bible does not mention name. We know that it occurred during the time of judges ruling Israel.
I suspect Ruth was older than typically thought? Can't remember where I heard but she may well have been in her 30's when she married that 40 year old
She was 40 years old and according to all that I have seen Boaz was 80.

That is what most Jewish rabbis give as his age. As for his "older" age, people did live longer back then, so 80 might be more like 40-50 for us today. As for sleeping on the ground, it was not an uncommon thing for individual's back then (also it's not like they had Serta mattresses either). Abraham slept on the ground and he was old. Also, they would have used blankets (and probably pillows) to create a makeshift pallets, making it a little more comfortable, since we know they did have blankets according to scripture. As for Ruth's happiness, I saw one source that stated Boaz might have lived close to 200 years (but I would need to do more to see if there are other sources that agree as I did see one article/Jewish tale that claimed Boaz died the day after the wedding but I see nothing in scripture to support that. I would think that would have been documented or stated somewhere.). There isn't a lot of focus on Boaz after he marries Ruth. I get the feeling that the book of Ruth is more about Naomi and her reward for her faith in the Lord, which was brought about by Ruth. After Ruth marries Boaz, it shifts to focusing on Naomi and that she now has an heir.
The awesome thing about Ruth is that she is one of the few women listed in the lineage of Jesus.
I suspect Ruth was older than typically thought? Can't remember where I heard but she may well have been in her 30's when she married that 40 year old
She was 40 years old and according to all that I have seen Boaz was 80.

young married christian blogger: Guys. I get it. Singleness is SO tough. I’ve been there! During those 6 months in 8th grade before meeting my wonderful soulmate (jared the sexiest hubby in the world :):):) ) I was so alone. It’s a season of life that just knocks you off your feet, doesn’t it?! Haha. I’ve been there ladies. So if you’re 25 and have a crippling fear of being alone, WAIT ON GOD’S TIMING. His timing was conveniently perfect for me so I guess I just feel like I am the appropriate person to give you advice :) By the way, we’re expecting!!!!!!!!!
#I always scroll past these Christian women who were 'single' and the bam met the love of their life after a few months of 'praying'#and they always bring up either Rachel or Ruth from the bible#please don't use these two exampled#one married a cheat who treated Leah horribly along with her children and the other one married a man twice her age

Have you ever smiled at someone? Or simply picked up something someone dropped and hand it back to them? Or opened a door for someone whose hands are full? Or simply said 'hello' or 'good day' to someone, like a cashier?
If so, then you have achieved that goal! It is the smallest things that make you a kind stranger in someone's memory.
I think if I could be the kind stranger in someone’s memory, that’d be enough.

I just started grad school this fall after a few years away from school and man I did not realize how dire the AI/LLM situation is in universities now. In the past few weeks:
I chatted with a classmate about how it was going to be a tight timeline on a project for a programming class. He responded "Yeah, at least if we run short on time, we can just ask chatGPT to finish it for us"
One of my professors pulled up chatGPT on the screen to show us how it can sometimes do our homework problems for us and showed how she thanks it after asking it questions "in case it takes over some day."
I asked one of my TAs in a math class to explain how a piece of code he had written worked in an assignment. He looked at it for about 15 seconds then went "I don't know, ask chatGPT"
A student in my math group insisted he was right on an answer to a problem. When I asked where he got that info, he sent me a screenshot of Google gemini giving just blatantly wrong info. He still insisted he was right when I pointed this out and refused to click into any of the actual web pages.
A different student in my math class told me he pays $20 per month for the "computational" version of chatGPT, which he uses for all of his classes and PhD research. The computational version is worth it, he says, because it is wrong "less often". He uses chatGPT for all his homework and can't figure out why he's struggling on exams.
There's a lot more, but it's really making me feel crazy. Even if it was right 100% of the time, why are you paying thousands of dollars to go to school and learn if you're just going to plug everything into a computer whenever you're asked to think??
