Letter to the Editor,
Model Answer
Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to your article about stray animals. This problem is getting worse in our city and many people have had the experience of feeling threatened by stray dogs that gather in parks and open areas, or of seeing dirty, unhealthy animals.
I believe the main reason why there are so many stray animals is that people sometimes abandon their pets. It is quite common for people to get pets without considering how much work is involved in looking after them, and then let them go free to live on the streets. Another reason why their numbers are increasing is that there are not enough animal shelters to take in these animals to care for them. There are hundreds of puppies and kittens born on the streets every year and animal charities can’t manage to provide care for all of them.
Fortunately, there are some things that can be done to tackle the problem. First of all, campaigns can raise awareness of the need to think carefully before getting a pet. Secondly, the city council should set up a centre where these stray animals can be kept. Once these animals are clean and healthy, new homes can be found for them.
I think that local people, charities and the authorities can put a stop to this problem if they work together. I hope that you will publish my letter because this issue affects everyone who lives in this city.

Computer Games
Model Answer
Many people, including young people, spend a lot of time playing computer games. While this activity can be very entertaining and exciting, sitting for hours playing computer games can also be harmful for various reasons.
On the one hand, computer games can help you learn new skills. In addition, online games enable one to interact with new people all over the world.
On the other hand, playing these games can become addictive, and people end up spending too much time playing them, which is obviously not healthy. Instead of spending time outdoors with friends or playing sport, some young people spend all their free time at the computer. Computer games are sometimes violent, which may encourage negative behaviour on the part of the players.
In conclusion, while moderate use of the computer for gaming can be entertaining, spending the major part of your free time in this way can be harmful.

Letter to the Editor,
Dear Editor,
I read your article about the plans to destroy the city park in order to build a multistory parking lot, and I am writing to express my opposition. In my opinion, we should preserve the few green areas that we have in our city center.
I believe parks are important to the people of our city. First of all, people who work go there during lunch hour to enjoy a quiet break. In addition, it is one of the only places where children can play safely away from the traffic.
Although I am not in favor of destroying the park, I understand the need for more parking space. However, I believe it would be better to build a parking lot on the outskirts of the city and provide cheap public transportation to the city center. This would solve the parking problem and also reduce the amount of traffic.
I hope your readers will agree with me that there are alternative solutions to the parking problem and that our city park can be saved.
Sincerely,

essay
Task B: Model Essay
Parks are fast disappearing from modern cities. While some people feel that any free space in the city should be used for office buildings and stores, others believe there are advantages to preserving some green areas.
On the one hand, business is important to the growth of the city, and companies provide employment for people. However, it is becoming quite difficult to find sites for new buildings. Parks take up valuable space that could be used for this development.
On the other hand, city parks benefit a wide variety of people. For example, they offer workers a place to take a break from the stress of the office. In addition, they provide a safe place for children to play. Furthermore, they are ideally located for holding special events like fairs or concerts that residents and visitors can enjoy.
In my opinion, parks improve the quality of city life. As cities expand, we should increase the number of green areas, not reduce them.
