she teeters precariously as maria grasps the back of her suit to yank her back, not because of her strength ( which is, frankly, impressive ) but to not accidentally overtake her due to her own; carol tips forward then flounders to catch her balance, spluttering, ❝ i -- wha -- but, ❞ she glances frantically between her friend and the escaping perpetrator, power at her fists crackling in and out.

but the look on maria's face keeps her feet planted firmly where they are, as helplessly as she shifts and huffs, expression twisting with a deep frown. the mom look. it's too effective. ❝ they're getting away! just -- one punch, ❞ she all but pleads, raising an index for emphasis. ❝ that's all it'll take. ❞

❝ oh, come on, ❞ hope groans, glare following the back of lizzie saltzman's blonde head even as she's reeled backwards by her mother's hand. the magic dispels as soon as the incantation falters on her lips, and her hand drops with a huff as she spins on her heel to face the hybrid.

she should feel a little more chagrined, but her annoyance outpaces almost everything else as her brows pull together, lips turning toward a pout and arms crossing indignantly over her chest. ❝ just one little hex wouldn't have hurt, ❞ and a mumble from the corner of her mouth, ❝ much. -- it's the least she deserves, after she told everyone i eat babies to sustain my evilness. ❞ ugh, eye roll.

seething retaliation lodges somewhere between the tip of their tongue and the edges of their teeth, barred to emphasize a growl in the back of their throat instead. but that falters before it can elicit, too. there is something about the other that settles like an irritant underneath shin's plate and, at the same time, is begrudgingly admirable. her stubbornness, perhaps. that which causes rey to frequent trouble. the audacity, however, she does not appreciate. it is the mere fact of the command in their tone that warrants a natural defiance in her to rear its head ―― she has dealt with worse, it's nothing she cannot take care of herself.

. . . but, they aren't in the frame of mind to waste precious energy arguing. not as the pulse in their wounded side sends trembles through their usually unshakable hands. so it is with an exhale that somehow produces as a huff and a mocking gesture all at once that she settles stiffly on a nearby rock, steely gaze centered ahead, jaw locked. kriff the self - righteous jedi.

minxie had not withstood the gnolls as well as she'd hoped. they're vicious, bloodthirsty creatures ―― the worst keyleth has ever seen, and stronger than she'd anticipated. every swipe of claws and gnash of teeth was returned twofold, until the biggest one had simply taken her by the scruff and flung her, sending her tumbling and reverting back to her humanoid self; far worse for wear. the rest of the battle passed in a daze, and she doesn't even notice the other druid until she speaks.

❝ is it? ❞ she follows amanita's gaze with a frown, and ―― oh, yes, that's particularly unpleasant. and though her own eyes mirror a strange fascination with the mangled limb, it's nothing akin to the gleam in mismatched hues that she unconsciously begins to lean away from; the shock is fading to wake her nervous system, and the pain already beginning to pulse through various wounds isn't making whatever the other has in mind very appealing. ❝ oh, no, it's okay -- really, you don't have to -- ❞ oh, she's counting. keyleth doesn't so much wince as she tenses up, gasped breath catching somewhere behind her teeth as her shoulder snaps back into her rotator cuff. her hands flex around her staff, some of the wood splintering beneath her palms before she exhales, leaning back against the boulder at her heels.

❝ thanks, nita, ❞ she mumbles, cheeks puffing out while her heart struggles to settle from the second jolt of adrenaline through her body, and the steady ooze of blood from a few select canine - shaped wounds. at least, the heartbeats of pain have started to pull her from the weary buzz in her head, enough for her to peer at her companion in search of injuries. although it seems amanita was smart enough to stay on the sidelines. still, she shimmies a little to stand up straighter and asks, ❝ do you need anything? or the others? ❞

" oh, that is nasty!" amanita declares, trying very poorly to hide her fascination with the way keyleth's arm hangs at her side. amanita had been sure to stay on the edge of battle, working her magic from afar. keyleth, however, had gotten pulled into a more physical altercation. the other druid was tough, it was one of the first things amanita had learned about her. tough didn't matter when her arm was pulled out of her socket. it had been an astounding display, really, but astounding was simply not enough.

" let me help, " she hums, eyes bright & full of curiosity. she wants to know how keyleth will take this, how she handles pain. there was only so much the mortal body could handle, afterall. amanita closes the space between them, not giving the other druid the chance to protest. she places her hands on keyleth's arm, her grasp firm. she was going to set it back in place, they could do this without magic.

" on the count of three, okay? " though the inflection in her voice sounds like a question, the glint in her eyes suggests it is not, " count with me. one… two… " ( she doesn't make it to three. ) there is an unpleasant crack that is too familiar to amanita. she watches keyleth with intense interest, watching her reaction.
