Hotels Vs Holiday Homes
We have been asked this question many times that what is best to book for holidays Hotels or Holiday homes. There is no straightforward answer to this question, it depends on my factors i.e. where are you going? Alone or with colleague or family? Length of stay etc.
Let’s not make it lengthy and boring and come to the main points straightaway –
· Holiday homes are obviously cost effective, holiday apartment of ¾ star hotel standard can be up to 40-50% less expensive than the hotels.
· If you can contact the owner directly you can haggle for further reduction.
· Longer you stay and more people you have more cost effective your stay will be.
· You are at liberty to go in & out at the time you want , bring people back to the apartment and have a party all night , obviously you are bit restricted if you stay in the hotel.
· If you are a vegetarian or vegan apartments give you the option to bring/cook your own food and it’s cheaper as well.
Some Dos & Don’ts
· Don’t assume the standard of the apartment, living standards in different country may differ as if apartment has TV, Telephone, walk in shower, bath, Wi-Fi , even how is the mobile signal.
· Do you research about the location, you probably don’t want to walk to nearest bus/underground station while actual owner might not mind that.
· Check reviews on FlipKey or tripadvisor.
· Pay by credit card only to be more secure.
· Carry your important documents like passport, traveller’s cheque with you, if they get stolen it’s only you who can be blamed.
· If anything looks out of order or fragile, take a picture and mention it to the owner as soon as you walk in.
Holiday apartments are very popular in Europe and Americas but they are gaining popularity in countries like India, china, Cambodia as well.
Click anywhere on this article to check prices with flipkey and while you are there why not check what you can get for that spare room or flat if you rent it. May be this can be source of little extra income for you.
