Not to be reductive but the plot of aotc is that Obi Wan leaves Anakin unsupervised for the first time and he immediately goes awol, murders a bunch of people, and gets secretly married and the plot of rots is that Obi Wan leaves Anakin alone for five minutes and he immediately gets confused, pledges himself to a sithlord, and murders a bunch of people

“That’s - well that’s - that’s wonderful.” - Anakin

“What’re we going to do?” - Padmé

“We’re not going to worry about anything right now. All right? This is a happy moment. The happiest moment of my life.” - Anakin

Why does no one talk about Padmè’s choice to trade Anakin for Grevious? I feel like we always talk about what Anakin did for Padmè in Revenge of the Sith and his sacrifices for her, but what about Padmè’s sacrifice(s) for Anakin?

And this isn’t meant to compare her to Anakin going sicko mode in ROTS but I just feel like no one has ever talked about this.

We know from dialogue in previous episodes as well as the beginning/middle of ROTS that capturing or killing General Grevious would completely turn the tide of the war, even before Count Dooku’s demise. Padmè knows this very well, after being in meeting upon meeting in the Senate, and being involved in several missions herself, she has a very good understanding of the war and it’s key players and what’s at stake.

So when Dooku calls her, she tries to do the most strategically logical thing and not make the trade. But then Dooku starts torturing Anakin.

Padmè knows she has to save Anakin. Even if she has to talk it out a little first, she knows she is not going to leave Anakin behind.

Padmè risks almost the entire outcome of the Clone Wars, just for Anakin. She forfeits a major win for the Republic, she abandons her duty, and she lets her heart rule her head in making a major decision that doesn’t just effect her, but effects the entire Republic as well.

And that’s her sacrifice.

Everyone always talks about the extreme lengths Anakin goes to for Padmè, which I agree are way darker and more extensive, but no one ever talks about how Padmè, who was the queen of an entire planet at 14 and has had to, her entire life, put the needs of others before her own. So much so that it’s become second nature, trades what’s probably best for the Republic for Anakin, because she loves him.

More than her duty. More than her title. More than her reputation. More than the well being of the entire republic. She loves Anakin more than all of that.

She loves him so much, she is willing to throw away every possible victory capturing Grevious would entail, just to keep Anakin safe.

And honestly? It’s such good writing and foreshadowing for their final meeting on Mustafar. Even after hearing every single vile and disgusting horrible thing Anakin has done from Obi-Wan, who she knows has no reason to lie to her, she still begs Anakin to leave everything behind and just run away with her. She is willing to abandon every single thing she’s ever built just to run away with Anakin and when she sees Anakin is not willing to do the same, I really think that’s what breaks her heart.

Anyways, I just love Padmè and, even though I don’t love how she’s written in TCW all the time, this epsiode was really good.
