I started drawing Ged from Earthsea some time ago, but I never finished х) So, I decided to share it as a sketch, perhaps in the future, I'll have the time and energy to continue or create another drawing based on this idea

least favorite thing with historical fiction is that you can get a book with a fantastic narrative, satisfying conflicts, character development, and incredibly compelling mysteries;
and then it’ll make the worst person you know a compelling character and catch you into a constant conflict of “fuck you” and “oh my god no don’t hurt him” and it starts rotting your brain from the inside out
#yeah imma consider an honor killing#because this is in fact about Guns of the South#i want to tag this as Robert e lee but i worry about the crowd#original post#us civil war#guns of the south#harry turtledove#my favorite character is Molly/Marvin she is so so beloved#might even be blorbo status…

Twain's King Arthur is perhaps the best flawed Arthur I've read, a man trying his best and very virtuous for his place and time, but who for much of the book just does not get it. No, he would never demand droit du signor or go about killing serfs, but he can't just outlaw doing so- that's how the system works, that's how it always has worked, and as king it's his job to make sure the system keeps working and things don't fall into chaos. He is compassionate to the common people on an individual basis, but can't initially wrap his head around the idea that the whole setup is bad. His heroism comes from his slow but sincere interest in and capacity for change. This weirdo from another world keeps babbling nonsense about freedom and equality, but even if it's nonsense, Arthur just has to hear the argument out and has to go undercover as a commoner to see what it's actually like.
That, to Twain, is what makes King Arthur great in the end.
#a connecticut yankee in king arthur's court#reblog#history#mark twain#HAHA YOU UNDERSTAND#i am enjoying him a great deal#and it’s an interesting discussion of the good aristocrat trope and how deeply your perspective on society is infomed by how you were#raised and how the greatest thing you can do was be open to change

You are CORRECT and I love an Albus essay any day
Okay I HAVE to go on a little tangent here.
I am all for people having their head-canons or au’s. Genuinely in the works of fiction, I say fair game, especially when it comes to anything Harry Potter because I don’t care for jk Rowling due to a list of reasons. (this is to an extent. I don’t f with degenerate shit)
But there’s one thing that’s bothered me for YEARS. and it’s this singular mischaracterization of albus potter.
It is one of my biggest gripes and will always be; ‘albus would be the next dark lord if this-‘ or ‘albus would use dark magic-‘, NO HE WOULDN’T?? Can a boy not be mentally ill without being pinned as a murderer in the making? God forbid we get borderline up in here.
Genuinely, when did he ever show any sign of homicidal-ness? Yes, while the whole time turner saving Cedric Diggory thing was in ways self motivated, he was straight up trying to prevent a guy from dying. ‘He’d do it to spite Harry and his family-‘ girl, if you don’t get outta here. Oh I can totally see a bitter and petty adult albus, but I see him being bitter and petty and working a 9-5 and being a hermit. NOT being the newest dark wizard.
He’s just a highly insecure, introverted, angsty teenage boy. Under a lot of scrutiny. How do you expect the kid to act, honestly. He’s also a little dweeb (lovingly) and at the end of the day, if we surpass all the morals he obviously has and has been taught to him from birth, along with his compassion he shows, do you really think that kids going to want all that attention on him? NEGATIVE ATTENTION??
(Obviously, it’s never stated in canon that he’s mentally ill. But even if you don’t interpret him as such, you can’t deny he’s chock full of angst.)
