We absolutely cannot emphasize enough that misogyny is an ideology soaked in blood. Misogynists kill women every day in their homes, at their jobs, when they're pregnant, when they're just trying to transition in peace, when they solicit them for sex work, when they're walking down the street, when they're at school, when they're sleeping, when they're begging them not to, when theyre colonizing their countries, when they're abusing their children, and sometimes they do it with their fists and sometimes they do it with assault rifles. when i was a boy-child i had a friend who was a tomboy and i remember wondering (jealously) why there was no similar word for boy-children who preferred the company of girl-children, who wanted to play as they did, with their songs and their games and their whispered secret languages. there is in fact a word for that, of course, but i don't recall emily ever feeling quite as menaced by "tomboy" as i was by the one they reserved for me
