Working Draft Haiku Songs
200 posts
Working Draft Haiku Songs was a project that spanned a period from about 2013-2015.  In that period, in collaboration with a wonderful group of singers and writers, we wrote, performed, and recorded 24 original songs and displayed them along with additional works by the writers on this Tumblr site. Since then I’ve moved on to other projects, most notable the “Colors and Lines” series, where I have composed music inspired by masterpieces of fine arts and made videos that combine the music and the art.  So far there are seven in the series and they are here on display. The “Colors and Lines” series has inspired me to combine more of my musical work with video.  This tumblr page also includes some of that work.

My performance of Brahms: Ballade, opus 118 #3 in g minor.  I’ve created a video montage with 19th Century paintings and vintage photos of the circus. I’ve now made videos of the complete opus 117 of Brahms and half way through opus 118.

This is the first in a series of videos I’m making of Johannes Brahms’s late piano music.  The Three Intermezzi of opus 117 are tender lullabies with streaks of darkness lurking within.

A year ago while visiting the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, I discovered 13th Century Chinese painter Chen Rong’s masterpiece “Nine Dragons”.  In it’s thrall I composed this piece for digital enhanced piano sounds.
