I’ve come to understand something recently.Whether you’re a human or an Ayakashi, we’re the same in that we meet with our hearts, that being alone is lonely, and that the first step is scary.

The Unstable World
When your life revolves around what is unseen and unheard, you find yourself unseen and unheard by your own race. Bullied by both ends of the spectrum, Hiccup finds himself in a nice countryside... where everything seems to be changing... but for better or for worse...?
---
There was once a boy who lived amongst his relatives. From aunt to uncle, to cousin to cousin, he never had a permanent place to stay. You see, his parents were off fighting in the war, and with the blessing of their precious child, were sent over seas. They both loved him dearly, more than anything else in the world. But it was in their blood to fight; making a difference in the world through the means of force was their way of life, and their son respected that. They all loved each other, very very much.
However, as time passed, these 'imaginary friends' began multiplying, and frighteningly, were beginning to scare the family he was staying with. The small boy would return with cuts and bruises, sometimes even a broken bone. And when he was alone, lamps, wood, glass, electronics – really anything and everything began shattering to pieces. The boy wasn't aggressive, no he was named 'Hiccup' for a reason. Hiccup's were surprising yes, but so small and feeble they really didn't have hopes of doing anything at all. Breaking glass was reasonable and understandable, but when things like wood, ceiling fans and chandeliers began breaking, they knew they had a problem. And they needed to get rid of it as soon as possible.
“Is there anything you'd like to tell us Hiccup?” They would often ask, sitting him in the living room and interrogating him. They believed they were being nothing but gentle and sweet, but Hiccup just shook, tears building in those deep and hurt forest green eyes, face scrunching up in both horror and disgust.
“I've told you,” Hiccup said with a shaky breath as his body trembled. Fists were grasping and ungrasping his old charcoal-gray shorts, knuckles going white from the repeated effort and pressure. Every fiber in his being was desperately trying to keep his emotions under control. Hurt, betrayal, anger, irritation and frustration – so many all at once, he felt like he was going to explode. “I'm not the one doing it,” he sniffled. They really thought he was doing all of the damage, didn't they? His aunt and uncle really thought he would be responsible for breaking such valuable furniture pieces and decorations? When he could hardly kill or swat a fly - literally? Besides, what would there be to gain from doing destroying things anyway?
“They bully and hurt me... all the time,” slowly, he let his gaze travel from his clenched fists to peer up at his guardians, head inclining in the process. Auburn strands swept in-front of his face, covering his eyes and sealing them from the adults view. But he could still see the complete anger on their faces. Their hazel irises darkening along with their facial expressions as hatred overcame them.
A hatred towards him.
No – no no what was this...? They, didn't believe him...?
What?
“Th-they like to throw things at me, push me around and do things they know I'll get in-trouble for-”
“That's enough Hiccup!” His aunt's voice boomed. Hiccup felt his whole body visibly flinch, sinking into the dark realization...
They really didn't believe in him.
They thought he was being an ungrateful brat, didn't they...?
“We tried to put up with your mental-case episodes, but we're through! You hear me?!” His aunt's voice was very loud and demanding. The brunette felt himself trembling even harder under her furious gaze. “There are no such things, as ghosts!”
…
…
Then what did he see everyday of his life...?
“You're a good kid Hiccup,” his uncle tried to slowly reason. But not even he could hide the utter disgust and irritation in his voice. “It's just, you need to know when to grow up and stop seeking attention.”
…
A...
Attention...?
Is that what they thought-?
“Cousin Pick will be here to pick you up tomorrow.”
…
… what...?
“I know it's sudden, but we've lost so much money and still have to repair all of the upstairs windows!!”
They were... forcing him away...? Because they thought he was doing all of this?
“Maybe when you calm yourself down a bit, then you can come back.”
But Hiccup was in too much pain – too much shock to register any of those words. His forest green eyes were completely wide, tears sweeping past them and down his cheeks as he continued to stare at nothing in particular.
For the first time in his life, someone hated him, and not even because he had done something they didn't like. They hated him because they didn't listen – because they didn't see the other people who caused all the problems.
And it wasn't the last time either, for that was only the beginning... And sad to say, that was the nicest family member he lived with...
Moving from place to place, being used as the potato in a 'hot potato game' with the relatives, Hiccup, just a mere six year old boy learned the terrors of abuse, drugs, alcohol and abandonment...
But the most hurtful of all, was the sense of being completely alone...
being completely and utterly
…
unwanted.
Surely it just had to be his mind overreacting to everything, right?
….
….
The other day, he was pushed down a well that was mostly drained. Luckily the water only went up to his knees.
…
…
He was stuck down there for five days straight. The family he had been with didn't notice his absence, until the school finally contacted them.
Now he was being shipped off to a new cousin, his father's brother, actually. To Hiccup, he was his uncle... a uncle that never wanted anything to do with them. But seeing as he was kicked out everywhere else, this was the last place he could seek refuge at.
Hiccup's mother and father sent letters and exchanged phone calls with him frequently, asking if he wanted them to come back home. They were allowed to since they left their only child alone, a strange rule yes, but it was a good one for their family. The brunette wanted his parents home more than anything else. He just wanted solid ground for his feet, to feel loved once again... maybe then, the hole in his chest would heal...
But Hiccup wasn't that kind of person. Asking his parents to abandon what they love to do for him was completely out of the question. A big 'no'. Enough people, especially blood related people have suffered from him already, he didn't want to destroy his mother and father's lives.
So despite dreading the move, he decided to suck it up anyway.
For his mother.
For his father.
…
It really couldn't be all that bad, could it? Besides the fact that everyone else treated him poorly, and that his uncle's nickname was 'Baggybum the Beerbelly,' who was known for drinking at five different taverns every other night. He had a son though, from what his father has told him. Maybe... just maybe he'd get along with him...?
… Hnnn... even if he didn't, he'd have to put up with it. As much as he hated it, he would make all the sacrifices needed to keep his parents happy...
A new town... in nice, rural area out in the countryside...
Maybe there was some form of happiness waiting for him there... where he didn't have to be lonely ans abused anymore... after so many years...
Hiccup could only hope...
