reading beginner stories: modern vs. ancient languages
modern language: this is jacques. jacques is a baker who loves to create delicious pastries. in the morning, jacques gets up and gets ready for work. jacques bikes to the bakery. jacques bakes cakes and pastries all day. in the evening jacque goes home and cooks dinner.
ancient language: one day, the hares resolved to commit suicide because they were cowardly. they decided to commit suicide by jumping into a river. as the hares approached, the thumping of their feet scared the frogs that lived in the river, and the frogs jumped into their hiding place in the water. the elder of the hares declared, “let us reject our decision to die! look- there is someone here who is more cowardly than we are!”
