The applicant must be at minimum 18 years of age and be able to prove resident alien status with either a Green Card or U.S. citizenship.

A state proctored exam is required for first-time candidates. The exam is not required for renewals by notaries if the expiration date has passed more than 180 days. Only sites that have been approved by New York Department of State are allowed to administer the proctored exam. Walk-ins are welcome until the exam begins. An appointment is not required. No one else can take the exam once it starts. Any school that claims it administers the state exam is misleading its student Notary Online Class New York.

Exam questions are taken directly from the New York Notary public License Law booklet, which can be downloaded from the New York Department of State. This exam tests your knowledge of all aspects and legal terms of the notary public's duties. This multiple-choice exam takes one hour. Candidates must sign and have their fingerprints taken to ensure exam security. Pass or fail is the score, but 70 is the minimum score required to pass. A notary public license can be applied for by an attorney who is a member of good standing in New York State Bar, or a court clerk in New York State NYC Notary Public License.

Exam prep courses are designed to help you prepare for the exam. They provide practice exams that simulate the actual exam and explain the information. These courses can be taken online, at live seminars or in one-day classes at your local college.

The candidate must submit the "pass slip" of the exam and the application and fee for commissioning as a Notary Public to the Secretary of State after passing the exam. An official oath must be taken and signed by the applicant. A notary is issued an identification card by the state to validate the four-year term of the commission upon confirmation NYC Notary Public License.

New York Notary Publics are authorized to administer oaths, affirmations, certify written documents like deeds or powers-of- attorney, and take depositions or affidavits. Two dollars is the legal acceptable fee for each notary public act. Notaries are often involved in property transactions, mortgages and legal documents.
