@sinnhelmingr while hel herself doesn’t seem to have much of a cult of worship, helheim itself actually has a lot of attestations! working seiðr pretty much exclusively involved astral travel to helheim, and it can be argued that the crossing of the boundary of life and death is something that’s integral to the practice of any nordic magic—kind of further explored in the idea that it’s only via hel that baldr is regained, a nod to the cyclical nature of life and death and that importance in nordic thought. there are also some theories that hel herself might be one of the many ‘faces of odin’, given that we know she was appointed to her station by odin himself, and there are some icons from early centuries AD that depict hel as a rider with a spear. not only would that tie her to odin, but it’s a nod to the wild hunt, to valkyrjur, to sleipnir, and the concept of ‘hedge-riding’, if you’re familiar with that in magic at all! so no, hel isn’t named a lot and no cultus has been identified, but her themes and concepts are threaded very closely throughout nordic magic, all the way through.

The Great Story of How My Job Fucked Me Over Again:

In the beginning, in September 2016, our store was populated with management from another location.

All of the new hires at that time, including myself, were told that since our company is so small, we would all be given opportunity to move up if we so desired.

I’ve worked in our warehouse from the very beginning. Almost a year and a half.

When our first VAA (warehouse manager) left, I was excited to interview and train on the position. No. They selected Jodie, who was the first new hire in our store to be promoted, to be VAA, without posting or interviewing at all.

That’s been a few months now. So now Jodie, as well as another person who was hired on with me, are relocating to a store in Tennessee, leaving management positions open again.

Naturally, I get excited, because I’m a dumbass. At this point, everyone in the store knows I want VAA. Hell, I’m one of two people who have been warehouse crew since setup, ergo we’re really the only two qualified.

Today I find out that yet again, they chose someone without posting and interviewing. And it’s Charlene, who came from the other store, who’s already the shoes department manager, and who’s also at least in her mid-50s, disabled, and nowhere near completely physically able to handle the VAA responsibilities. 

How do I know this? I do all her heavy lifting for her in the back.

However, if she’s moving to VAA, that leaves her department open. So I was talking about that open department with Susan, also warehouse crew.

She confided in me that she was approached to train on shoes.

I’ve been with the company an entire year longer than her.

I ask, ‘will you be mad if I say I’m pissed that they approached you before me?’ and she says no and we get to discussing it, and she says, ‘well, maybe even though you can obviously handle the physical side of it, they’re worried about stressing you with the responsibilities because you’re autistic.’ (which is common work knowledge, nbd).

I respond, ‘Yeah, but they know that I’m willing to do a trial period and train with someone for a while to see if I can handle it.’

She says, ‘Yeah, that’s what they’re going to do with me.’

Fuck.

This is the fifth time I’ve been smacked down from other positions. First they denied me the accessories department, then they trained me in the cash office and never put me in there, then the first VAA left and they put Jodie there, they continually deny training me on the register even though we always need cashiers, and now this.

Fuck.

FUCK.

if someone tells you you’re whitewashing a character, the ‘it’s my muse, i’ll play them how i want’ is the fucking flimsiest, foolishest excuse you can come up with. do you know what the fuck ‘muse’ means? your muse is your personal interpretation of em for the most part, yeah, but that character still exists independently of you, still has an identity independently of you, and IF THAT CHARACTER BELONGS TO A RACIAL OR ETHNIC MINORITY, YOU HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO ADHERE TO THAT REPRESENTATION. you don’t get to just make someone fucking white because you feel like it, and even if we would let you get away with that, it’s the shittiest thing you could do. you gonna muse a character, and then not give a fuck enough about their identity to portray them right? you’re gonna prioritize forced whiteness over that? maybe you don’t give a fuck about the character and someone should take them away from you :)

Loki can't remember the last time she stood over a stove.

It wasn't recent, that's for damn sure—she doesn't even think it's been in the last few centuries, or maybe longer. She's used to being brought food by thralls or servants or other staff, or just buying it, lately. But here, in Pietro's apartment, Loki knows she doesn't want to leave and be seen by people on the street as the wreck that she is, and neither does she want to burden him by staying with him.

He'd made a point of buying more food, so Loki had made a point of waiting until he left to get up and go to the kitchen. At least now she's clean since she showered yesterday, and a bit of magic that took more to muster than usual had summoned some of her clothes to her and they were clean, too.

The apartment smells like apples, like spices, and a pot on the stove has a hearty stew that's somewhat like Loki remembers, though she had to smell her way through the seasonings and make her best guesses. The only thing she laments is that there's no pork, but—of course there isn't. Beef would do, though she'd have liked lamb better.

The door opens as she's putting plates on the table, and a spike of anxiety creeps up in her stomach next to hunger, as if she's been doing something wrong. But instead, Loki clears her throat and makes herself say, "I made dinner, if you want any."
