Loving Me Takes Time

This piece is about patience, from others, and from myself. Understanding doesn’t come quickly, especially when your mind moves differently. For me, love and trust unfold slowly, like a snail’s antennae, cautiously testing the world before extending further. It takes time to feel safe enough to share who I am.

Sometimes, people need to learn from my way of being, to recognize that even if I communicate differently, my intentions are good. This artwork is a reminder that moving slowly isn’t a flaw, it’s a form of care. The right people will take the time to understand.

The plains spadefoot (Spea bombifrons) is toadally cute. But did you know that this stout amphibian, which inhabits arid regions of western North America, is an “explosive” breeder? Hundreds of individuals gather en masse to mate. Afterwards, females can lay as many as 2,000 eggs! These eggs might hatch in as few as two days, and the resulting tadpoles can develop rapidly, sometimes maturing in just 13 days. This species reproduces after warm heavy rains.
