The Balance: Finding a WAY to make it work, with what YOU got.
The balance.
We are all trying to achieve balance, but like most, I often just miss the mark. I am not ANYWHERE near perfect and despite the glossy images of Instagram and Facebook, I am always trying to make it work with what I got.
FOOD AND LIFE.
These two things aren't always on the same track. My life is going one way, what I want to eat is going another, and somehow I find myself in this alternative space where I have to choose who wins and by how much. Not the greatest feeling, but I acknowledge that the activity of balance is always asking me to negotiate and renegotiate how I live. Its asking me to be accountable. To really accept that this is where I am today and I will make that work the best I can. A true statement that is sometimes annoying, cause if you are at like me, I want flawlessness! No mistakes...ok fine, one or two mistakes, but overall flawlessness! Trial and error, trial and error, an ongoing process that I have learned some key points about myself:
1. I need to cook and prepare in the mornings. I am a morning person and I mean I'm up at 7 am even if I start work at 6pm! Im up and ready to start my day which always involves with some physical activity. There a meditative offering with cooking/prepping in the morning that feels like its connected to my ancestors, the spirit world, source...yes...
2. Bring snacks/bring water; this is a fact. When I have snacks, some good, some sweet, I will not spend money!!! Its proven! And it speaks to how I wish to have a sustainable lifestyle. I most likely will still buy a coffee, which I am ok with!
3. Do what feels good! If indulging is what I need in that moment, I give that to myself. Its a gift and reminder to my mind and my body, that I am not held down by any systems that I impose on myself. I am a black queer woman, there are enough systems in place to hold me down, so I make sure I find the freedom in my food. Its save me everyday and I do not take that for granted.
What does balance look like for you?

NOTE✓✓✓: Although I eat a lot of colour, my food doesn't always have bright colours. Brown's and beige's are still colours! For todays meal, I had to take two pics as it all couldn't fit in one container. Picture1: Has purple cabbage, avocado, kale, pumpkin seeds and tomato. Picture2: Is a plantain and fava beans mash with green onions and chilies . . #favabeans #plantains #cabbage #mealprep #fastprep #veganrecipes #plantbased (at Ajax, Ontario)
