Hugo let out a soft sigh. "But you aren't going to do certain things because you're missing a leg," he said. "In my experience, people knowing, they give you more grace, more time. There are also going to be the people who judge you no matter what, but those same people will find something, leg or not, to judge you on. What's important is who you surround yourself with, who understand the limitations you have and want to work with them, instead of against them."

"Well I was recovering from third degree burns in the hospital so I had my own time to come to terms with it," Jack explained, "I'm not ashamed of it. I'm not embarrassed by it," she paused, "I don't like people underestimating me. Other people get a sick satisfaction from proving people wrong and I do enjoy proving people wrong but not because of this," she tapped her leg gently, "I don't like people telling me I can't do something because I am missing a leg so I don't tell anyone. I am pissed off enough when people assume it because I'm a woman, or a person or colour or any other number of reasons they can find."

"Oh definitely, part of the reason why I avoid it. Other part is I suck at cooking," Hugo replied with a light laugh. "Yeah, I'm fine, I think I've just been wearing my leg a little too long."

"Hey, no you're all good. I just needed to wash my hands honestly," James said, moving around him to do just that before coming back out, "I was helping Nan with the cooking and the kitchen was too crowded to do it in there, you know?" he chuckled, "You doing alright, Hu?"

Hugo was a bit taken aback at the other's admission but smiled lightly, letting out a small chuckle. "It's fine, really," he insisted. "I had a suspicion, but I've never been the one to push when I can tell people aren't ready," Hugo said. "Trust me, I can't say anything mean, not when I went into hiding with my Mum after my accident. I had the time to adjust, the time to feel comfortable about it, and time for peace. I also had a huge distraction over taking care of my Mum. It's something you have to do on your own, I still can't really talk about what happened to me, not even with my family, or my best friend. If it makes you feel better, you can trauma dump on me about it if you want. Like you said, I would understand. Just like I understand the feeling of wanting to hide it. I personally didn't, because I wanted it to be known on my own terms, not the papers or more likely, the gossip witches, because it's something new with the minister's kid."

"Um, hi," Jack said with an awkward smile and then took a deep breath, "I have a prosthetic leg," she blurted out before adding quickly, "Sorry, I know we don't know each other really well but I decided my one and only resolution this year was to be more open about my prosthetic leg and I'm pretty sure you were close to figuring it out the last time we talked and I know that... well, I know you have one and it felt easier to tell someone who would understand it. I swear I'm not trying to like trauma dump on you but um, yeah," she let out a breath and laughed, "That was completely awkward and unlike me."

Hugo's leg had been bothering him a lot that day, but he knew that he had to make it through the weekend with his family, the Weasley-Potter clan getting together at their grandparents for their grandfather's birthday. He had snuck away to the bathroom to take another potion for the pain and just massage the end of his residual limb trying to get a break from his prosthetic. When he exited the bathroom, he found James there. "Jay, Hey," he said to the other. "I hope I didn't force you to wait very long."

Hugo let out a small laugh, "I don't think it would be either," he replied. "Just a fun joke." Hugo liked to skim the surface on it, knowing that if he thoughts about it too hard, he'd think about her almost dying, he'd think about the people who are after her, he'd think about the months they spent hiding from the public, especially during the time he was recovering after his accident. "What? You don't think I have a charming personality?"

"I don't know if you are showing off or this is the start of you brokering some sort of the under the table, black market deal." Jaiyash chuckled a little at that, grateful of the fact he was really trying with him. "Charming personality though? That's some big claim."

"We need to use them for something," Hugo replied. "That's why I put the stuff we barely use up there."

"Absolutely astounding," Auggie retorted as she finished retrieving what she needed and bent down to hop off the counter, "See? All in one piece. If you have a lack of faith in my balance, stop putting things on the very top shelves."

"If you're not careful walking period, you can break your ankle," Hugo replied. "I've seen pins and needles, and they usually go away quite quick."

Jack laughed, "You never seen someone with pins and needles before?" she asked, trying to joke as she reached down to rub the spot where her stump and prosthetic met. Then she stopped herself, standing up because that didn't match her story, "You know if you aren't careful when walking with them, you can break your ankle," she explained, trying to change the subject.

"I mean... my Mum is minister of magic," Hugo joked lightly, but he knew that there was no way to get a time turner. "Well, I'm glad I can cheer you up with my charming personality."

"Unless you can pass me a time turner, no I suspect not." Jaiyash answered, giving a little smile and reaching out to clap Hugo lightly on the back, appreciative of the others concern. "But I appreciate you being here and giving a shit so that's a fair bit you're doing for me already, mate."

"Anything I can do to help at least?" Hugo asked, slightly more concerned now. "I mean, in any way that doesn't mean telling me?"

"Ah, not exactly but I'd say it's one of those self-caused incidents... and not really something I can discuss unfortunately." Again, the words were spoken with an air of apology, not intentionally wanting to freeze the man out but the issue involved a secret in the first place. "Let's just say I made some bad decisions and hurt someone I actually care about."

"I don't have a lack of faith in you," he stated. "Just a lack of faith in your balance."

Auggie looked down at Hugo from where she stood on top of the counter, "Oh please, I'm perfectly safe," she said, reaching into the back of the cupboard for what she needed, "Your lack of faith in me is astounding."

Hugo raised his eyebrows at her. "Mmhmm... so that's why you're limping in pain?" he replied. He was never one to beat around the bush. "Sorry, but I'm calling bullshit on that one."

"I said I'm fine," Jack insisted, despite the increasing pain in her leg. She had limped away from the conversation they had just finished, realising she probably needed to take her prosthetic off and rest. She had been on it for too long. Despite knowing he would understand, Jack hadn't worked up the courage to tell Hugo that she shared his struggles. She turned to look at him and forced a smile, "Just uh... pins and needles."

Hugo raised his eyebrows lightly, "Oh, okay," he replied. "Are you alright?" he asked, noticing the slightly different mood the other was presenting to his normal happy and fun mood.

"You know, when someone says that, it doesn't necessarily mean it's an actual bet. It's more a turn of phrase in this instance, Hugo. I'm not really in the mood for a challenge." He explained with a slight apologetic smile on his lips.
