I’m going to share with you one good tip to determine quality borosilicate glass work from shoddy glass work using this photo shared with me by the owner, who was misinformed into believing this was a Humble Pride Glass peach. (She was really cool about the misunderstanding, and I sent her an authentic peach because this breaks my heart to see people misled). Despite what you see in soft glass blowing shows, like @blownaway (awesome show), borosilicate glass can’t just be smacked together and called ‘good’. These are different types of glass with different properties, and in Boro, additions need to be properly ‘sealed’ to each other, or they risk snapping off or becoming a crack point. The rule of thumb is: if you can slip your fingernail under it, it’s not properly sealed. The leaf on this peach is an extreme example, but a good one to see this difference clearly. The join should never be like a 2, it should be like a skate ramp or L-ish shape, completely welded to the surface it’s attached to. This takes time and attention, which is why it’s such an easy way to determine if your glass is ‘cheaply’ made or quality. The import factories focus on ‘quick’ and often skip this important step. Quality blowers spend the time smoothing these joints together for durability. Slide 2 is my attempt to demonstrate what to look for, I hope it helps.
