I truly believe that McLaren are too committed to looking like one big happy family where there drivers are friends and everyone is treated as an equal to win this championship. They have clearly the fastest car out on track by quite some margin and yet they bottle it time and time again. Because they are too afraid to prioritise one driver over another. Strategically they are no where near as decisive as they should be and it shows. But in some respects I kinda have to feel for the strategists because when the directive from up top is “we want this drivers championship, but both drivers should be treated as equals and no one should be prioritised and if one driver is disadvantaged but something we do then we should give it back to them even if it hurts our chances of a championship” what the hell are you meant to do with that?!

They are so desperate to avoid a repeat of Hungary and the emotional blackmail bs that they put Lando through on the team radio and the damage that did to the team ‘brand’ if you will that they bottled it again today. Yes Oscar dive bombing Lando did kind of ruin Lando’s race because Charles got through, but that was always a possibility if both cars are told they can fight each other. So either you enforce team orders and tell them not to fight or you invert the cars later down the line when pitting them. But they just can’t do it! Like I know that is a horrible thing to do to Oscar as he earned his place but when you are fighting for a drivers championship these are the calls that have to be made. And you can’t tell me that Redbull and Mercedes haven’t made similar calls in a championship fight. Instead they became so focused on their internal race between their two drivers that they completely forgot about Ferrari. Today should have easily been a McLaren win (no disrespect to Charles who drove incredibly to make those tires last) but no now you have to settle for 2-3 and a pissed off Lando who has lost out twice because of team orders.

I should point out at the end of this I am no McLaren fan but their drivers deserve better and you cannot convince me this team is serious enough to win a drivers championship….. and don’t get me started on papaya rules..
