When I upgraded to 6.6.1 and launched the ATEm Software Control app It asked to update the firmware on the switch but was unable to do so, because the software could not connect to the switch not withstanding that the USB cable was plugged in. When I then launched the ATEM setup utility app that software reported the same condition that I was not connected to the switch and to check the USB connection. This is the same problem I had on both the windows platform and the mac platform. With Windows I am using 7 professional and the make is using OS X version 10.11.1. Please offer suggestions.

Here are the basics of using EasyWorship 7 with the Blackmagicdesign ATEM Television Studio mixer.

You will also need to understand how to change display settings in Windows and how to set up a theme in EasyWorship.

If you want to use Alpha Channel masking, you’ll need to connect two video outputs from the computer into the ATEM mixer.

We have a list of recommended video cards on the System Requirements page.

Please note that if you are using cameras, you’ll want to match the resolution of the cameras because the ATEM can only accept the same video resolution on all inputs. You cannot mix video resolutions on the ATEM mixer.

For example: If your camera is sending to the ATEM at 1920x1080, then you have to set your EasyWorship output to 1920x1080 and also the Alpha Channel output from EasyWorship if you're using that.

Hardware Requirements

This is the equipment you'll need in order to use the ATEM TV Studio with EasyWorship.

The ATEM Studio mixer.

A video card that supports at least three extended desktops simultaneously.

The first output connects to the control screen to be able to run EasyWorship.

The second output connects to the ATEM Studio for Text and foreground content.

The third output connects to the ATEM Studio for Alpha channel.

Video cables to connect the computer to the ATEM and to connect the ATEM to your projector or TV.

Video converter boxes for converting HDMI or DVI signal to SDI. (This may or may not be required depending on your set up.)

Setup Video Connections

Your first connection from the video card on the computer will be to your primary monitor.

Make two video connections from the computer video card to the ATEM using two HDMI or SDI cables*.

In Windows display settings you will see three screens. The Control screen, Live output screen and Alpha channel screen. They should be labeled 1, 2 and 3.

Extend the Windows desktop to each screen.

Set the screen resolution for the Live output and Alpha channel output to the same resolution.

*Note: If you're using 2 HDMI cables, plug them into IN 1-HDMI and IN 2-HDMI. If you're using 2 SDI cables, plug them into IN 3-SDI and IN 4-SDI. If you're using 1 of each, use IN 1-HDMI and IN 3-SDI.

You can have up to 6 inputs on the ATEM Television Studio. IN 3-HDMI and IN 4-HDMI share the same ports as IN 3-SDI and IN 4-SDI.

Setup EasyWorship

On the EasyWorship menu bar select EDIT>OPTIONS.

In LiveOptions set the output monitor to the appropriate output. (Usually Monitor 2)

Set the Alpha Channel to the appropriate output. (Usually Monitor 3)

Click OK.

Set up a Theme In EasyWorship

In EasyWorship create a themewith a black background and move the text box to the location want the text to appear on the screen. For example the lower third of the screen.

Right-click on the theme you created and set as Song Theme.

You will need to do this for Scripture and Presentations.

The black background allows you to key out the black background and replace it with your camera feed.

If you are using a chroma key, you can still use black and key out black.

Atem Software Control For Windows

Using HDMI or SDI cables, go from the Multiview out and Program out ports on the ATEM TV Studio into monitors.

You’ll use the ATEM app on a computer to connect to the ATEM switcher and label your inputs and setup the key. One should be labeled EasyWorship and one Alpha or EW Alpha.

You’ll need to set up an Upstream Luma key if you are using Alpha Channel. If you are not using Alpha Channel you may want to set up an Upstream Chroma Key.

Select the Luma tab.

Change the Fill Source to EasyWorship or the input that is receiving the Live Output from EasyWorship.

Change the Key Source to Alpha or the input that is receiving Alpha Channel from EasyWorship.

Select the option for Pre Multi.

1. Guake

Whether you’re new to Linux or an expert, the default Terminal is frustrating. It’s plain, obscures the desktop, and, overall, the Terminal application is difficult to appreciate.

Consider a replacement: Guake. With a Quake-style semi-transparent interface, Guake can be installed via the Add/Remove Software tool.

After installation, you’ll find it in Applications > System Tools > Guake. Once you see the notification that Guake is running, tap F12 to summon it. Guake will drop down from the top of the screen when called.

Guake lets you see what is happening elsewhere on the desktop. You can also right-click inside the Guake window to alter the Preferences, which includes tweaking the appearance.

2. Synaptic Package Manager

It’s easy enough to install software via the command line, and Raspbian has its own mouse driven Add/Remove Software tool. But sometimes that’s not enough. If you’re looking for something more expansive, try Synaptic.

Unlike the native tool, Synaptic uses more specific software categories, helping you to find the tools you need. Synaptic (one of several Linux package managers) also ensures you’re using the current version of apps installed on your Pi. All you need to do is click Reload and then Apply to run the updates.

3. MyPaint

Best open source apps lists like this almost always suggest GIMP as a sort of easy Photoshop alternative. While this is a good option, it’s often preinstalled on Raspberry Pi OS. For something a little different, try MyPaint.

This is an open source graphics editor for digital painting, rather than image manipulation. Closer to Corel Painter or Krita than Photoshop, it includes layers, brush settings, scratch pad, and brushstrokes that differ based on the angle and zoom. Many other features can be found on the project’s GitHub page.

4. QMMP

VLC media player plays music, but if you’re looking for something a more visually striking, try QMMP.

With support for all the usual audio formats (MP3, FLAC, Ogg FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV, CD Audio, etc.), it also delivers equalization settings and visual effects.

Various plugins are also supported, adding functionality. This ranges from playing music from YouTube to playing chiptunes (music created on or for 8-bit systems).

5. DOSBox

The Raspberry Pi isn’t exactly short of games. Amateur developers and have created hundreds of homebrew games; some Linux titles run on the Pi, too. It’s also an excellent platform for playing retro games.

Various types of emulation are possible with the Raspberry Pi, from 8-bit home computers to consoles. But if your preference is for classic PC games, try DOSBox.

Capable of running all software from the MS-DOS era, DOSBox lets you play PC games from the 1980s and 1990s.

To install DOSBox on the Raspberry Pi, open Preferences > Add/Remove Software and search for it. Once installed, head to your Home directory and create a new folder, dosgames. This is where you should save the extracted contents of downloaded games to, ready to use them.

6. Arduino IDE

Planning to pair your Raspberry Pi up with an Arduino for some maker fun? If so, you’ll need Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment). The IDE makes it simple to write and upload code to any Arduino connected to your Raspberry Pi.

You can install Arduino IDE on your Pi via Preferences > Add/Remove Software.

Once installed, launch via Applications > Programming > Arduino IDE. Use the Tools > Boards menu to select the correct Arduino model (Arduino Uno and clones are selected by default).

7. NixNote

Using a different computer doesn’t mean you won’t need to keep notes from time to time. NixNote is an open source client for Evernote, easily installed in Add/Remove Software.

Once installed, NixNote gives you access to your existing Evernote archive of ideas, jottings, lists, and so on. It can export as PDF, and the data can be backed up and restored as needed.

In short, this is a useful notebook client that syncs with Evernote on your other devices for unified notetaking.

8. Deluge

First things first: Deluge is a BitTorrent client. This doesn’t mean that it is illegal; BitTorrent itself isn’t illegal. Rather, the misuse of the peer-to-peer networking technology to download copyright-protected movies and games is illegal.

For instance, many Linux operating systems (including Raspbian) can be downloaded over BitTorrent. This provision reduces the overhead on hosting the distribution on a dedicated server. Our guide to BitTorrent explains this in more detail.

9. OpenVPN

Every computer should connect to the internet via a VPN. While there are no VPN clients for the Raspberry Pi, there is OpenVPN.

This is a VPN client app that lets you connect to your preferred VPN server using existing account credentials. For example, you can connect to ExpressVPN VPN servers using the configuration files they provide.

Be sure to download the OVPN configuration file for your preferred server and save it on your Pi. Most VPN services provide OpenVPN support so this should be straightforward.

RPi consumes only a few watts of power so it seems to be ideal torrent client platform – it can run for days and slowly (or not) download the content from internet. Setting up Torrent client is very easy. Here is how to do it…

We will install torrent client called Transmission. Before we do that lets update and upgrade our packages.

sudo apt-getupgrade

Installing the client:

After installation we need to configure it a bit, but don’t worry, it will take only a few minutes. Configuration file is /etc/transmisson-daemon/transmission.json. There are several values we need to change – here is the list of modified parameters (we will be modifying the rest but in more human way later on). Before editing the config file stop daemon (if you stop daemon after editing the file, your changes will be overwritten):

To update config file execute:

First we’ll get rid of authentication when connecting to Transmission using web browser

'rpc-authentication-required': false

To avoid loosing any control over who connects to our Transmission we can define IP address range of computers that can connect. With the below settings, Transmission will be controlled by computers with IP addresses starting with 192.168.1.* and from local host (RPi).

'rpc-whitelist': '127.0.0.1,192.168.1.*'

Also make sure that the following parameters are set in this way:

'rpc-port': 9091 'rpc-url': '/transmission/'

Now, start Transmission-daemon:

From computer/tablet that has ip within the defined (above) range, connect to your Transmission: (assuming IP of your Raspberry Pi is 192.168.1.106)

If you did everything right here is what you should see:

Now, with graphical interface you can easily set majority of Transmission properties as well as upload torrent files and start downloading. The setting you do in web interface will be reflected in settings.json file as soon as Transmission is stopped. Remember, that when you set directory for downloaded files, this directory needs to have right privs so that Transmission would be able to write files there. If it’s external drive that will host the directory (most likely that will be the case) and you’ve installed Transmission on RaspBMC, mount if with mode=000 setting in fstab as described in DLNA installation.

Is it over? It can be if you’re fine with checking the download status from web browser, but it would be much cooler to be able to monitor, start and stop torrents from XBMC, since most likely you would like to use XBMC to view/listen media (if you’re downloading one). There is XBMC plug-in that you can install from XBMC GUI. To install go to: System->Settings->Add-ons->Get Add-ons->XBMC.org Add-ons->Program Add-ons->Transmission and select install. If you disabled logging to Transmission there is nothing to configure. If you enabled it you need to enter username and password in the settings.

SimSig puts you in the seat of a signaller, also called a Dispatcher or Network Control Officer, operating signalling screens based on the widely used IECC and Westcad graphics used in the UK. That is, you operate the signals and points/switches in order to get trains to their destinations on time. Porgy and Bess, dramatic folk opera in three acts by George Gershwin. Its English libretto was written by DuBose Heyward (with lyrics by Heyward and Ira Gershwin), based on Heyward’s novel Porgy (1925). The opera—which premiered at the Alvin Theatre in New York City on October 10, 1935—is considered to be the first great American opera.

It is widely regarded as a forerunner to the groundbreaking Porgy and Bess. In 1924, George and Ira Gershwin collaborated on a stage musical comedy Lady Be Good, which included such future standards as 'Fascinating Rhythm' and 'Oh, Lady Be Good!' Synopsis

The song was for the first time recorded by Abbie Mitchell on 19 July 1935, with George Gershwin playing the piano and conducting the orchestra (on: George Gershwin Conducts Excerpts form Porgy & Bess, Mark 56 667). Season 14 of Great Performances at the Met continues Friday, July 17 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings) with Gershwin’s folk opera The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. Eric Owens and Angel Blue star as the sympathetic duo Porgy and Bess in this primetime production. The all-star ensemble features Alfred Walker as Crown, Frederick Ballentine as Sportin’ Life, Latonia Moore as Serena, Golda Schultz as Clara and Donovan Singletary as Jake. David Robertson conducts.

James Robinson’s production takes place in the 1920s inside Catfish Row, a tenement neighborhood of Charleston, South Carolina, beginning with its inhabitants relaxing after a day’s work. Drug-dealer Sportin’ Life, Jake and some of the other men gather to play craps under the disapproving eye of the religious Serena. Disabled beggar Porgy arrives and is about to join the game when Crown and his partner Bess appear. Drunk and high on drugs, Crown loses, starts a fight and kills Robbins, Serena’s husband. Before the police arrive, Crown runs off to hide, telling Bess that he’ll be back for her. Sportin’ Life offers to take Bess to New York with him, but she refuses. Only Porgy is sympathetic to Bess; he offers her shelter and his protection, which she accepts. A collection is being taken to meet the cost of the burial, and Bess offers Serena a contribution which she refuses, thinking it must be Crown’s money. Serena finally accepts when she realizes the money is from Porgy.

A month later, Sportin’ Life enters, but before he has an opportunity to peddle any of his “happy dust,” Maria, the matriarch of Catfish Row, chases him away. Sportin’ Life asks Bess to come to New York with him again and tries to give her more drugs, which she refuses. Porgy threatens Sportin’ Life and chases him away; he and Bess reflect on their happiness. That evening, Crown, who has been hiding on the island since Robbins’ murder, calls out to Bess. He wants Bess to come with him, but she explains that she now has a new life with Porgy. Crown forces her to stay with him. A week later, the fishermen leave for a day’s work at sea despite a storm warning, and Bess is heard talking deliriously from Porgy’s room. Serena prays for Bess’ recovery, and her prayers are answered when Bess emerges into the courtyard, free of the fever. She explains to Porgy that she wants to stay with him, but when Crown returns she’ll be forced to go back to him.

As a hurricane rolls in, everyone cowers together in Serena’s room to pray for deliverance from the storm. At the storm’s height, Clara sees Jake’s boat overturn and rushes out to save her husband. Bess calls for one of the men to go after her, and Crown responds. The women grieve for those who have been lost, including Jake, Clara and possibly Crown. Under the cover of darkness, Crown appears and approaches Porgy’s door. Porgy is ready for him and kills him instantly. Detectives, accompanied by the coroner, return to Catfish Row to investigate Crown’s murder. They go to Porgy’s room and tell him he must come with them and identify Crown’s body. Horrified to look at Crown’s face, Porgy refuses to go but is dragged away. Taking advantage of Porgy’s absence, Sportin’ Life tries to convince Bess that Porgy will go to prison for the crime, and he attempts to lure her away to a new life. A week later, Porgy returns from jail in a jubilant mood and distributes gifts he bought with money won by playing craps in jail. He calls out for Bess and learns that while he was in jail, Bess took off to New York with Sportin’ Life. Now, Porgy must make a decision. Audra McDonald hosts.

“Porgy and Bess” is a 1935 opera by American composer George Gershwin, with a libretto written by author DuBose Heyward and lyricist Ira Gershwin. It was adapted from Dorothy Heyward and DuBose Heyward’s play “Porgy,” itself an adaptation of DuBose Heyward’s 1925 novel of the same name.

This Met Opera production takes a fresh approach to a complicated masterpiece, which has been criticized for its African American stereotypes since its 1935 debut. Met opens season with a heartening and memorable “Porgy and Bess”

Since its debut, Porgy and Bess has been consistently hectored by two questions: is it an opera and is it some combination of condescension and racial exploitation (lately termed cultural appropriation)?

The debut of a new production of Porgy and Bess, which opened the season at the Metropolitan Opera Monday night could leave no objective listener with any doubt as to the answer to the first question. And based on the excited responses from the audience during the performance, and the rapturous applause and shouts at the end—from the kind of patron mix one sees in everyday life in New York City but rarely in a classical music venue—the work has gone quite a ways toward settling the latter in a heartening and beneficent way.

Monday’s opening night performance had more dynamic energy, more direct human communication, and possibly more fine singing than one has seen at the Met over the last several seasons. The house has the luxury of casting the very best singers, and for Porgy and Bess that means the very best African-American opera performers, who are indeed among the finest on the scene. That means bass-baritone Eric Owens and soprano Angel Blue in the leads, with the supporting characters sung by bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green, sopranos Latonia Moore and Golda Schultz, and mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves. And that doesn’t even begin to list the stellar house debuts.

Credit the lead performers, but a substantial amount of the force of the performance came from the African-American chorus assembled by the Met for this production—not just their vibrant singing but the direction from producer James Robinson and the choreography for them and a small set of dancers, created by Camille A. Brown (both making their Met debuts). Catfish Row was full of life, from people going about their work and chores to gripping and visceral expression of charismatic Christianity at the moments of greatest sorrow and crisis. The village was not full of characters–it was full of genuine people.

Doubts about Porgy and Bess’s musical qualities have been a legacy of American high culture in the early 20th century, which looked from the east coast to Europe for directions on what was good or bad. Opera in English was seen as suspect exactly because it was in English, much less George Gershwin’s vernacular music and librettist Dubose Heyward’s Gullah dialect. Opera is a form, not a style, and if Verdi’s use of vernacular music and language in his work was good enough for Italian audiences (and American ones) than jazz, blues, gospel, and the sounds of how people talk is good enough for everyone.

Dialect is exactly where Porgy and Bess has made listeners from Virgil Thomson to Harold Cruse uncomfortable, and the language and setting are honestly difficult and emotionally fraught for some, who hear the libretto by Heyward (a white Southern writer) as full of stereotypes, though still with real sympathy for the characters—that opera in general stereotypes characters is no help.

But one felt that the inevitable social and political questions were put aside Monday, and sensed no doubts from the audience, by the quality of the performances.

The opera has the advantage of capturing the listener by opening with one of the greatest American songs, “Summertime,” sung with crystalline grace and beauty by Schultz as Clara. Southern gospel songbooks. After that bit of willful seduction, one was immersed in the feeling of reality coming from, of all places, the operatic stage. There was a naturalness to the production, but much more the at-ease solidity of Green as the fisherman Jake, Clara’s husband, bass-baritone Alfred Walker’s confident masculinity as Crown, the way Graves, as Maria, used a mix of singing and intoned speech to create an absolute command of Catfish Row and the stage itself.

Owens and Blue delivered affecting performances. The bass-baritone shook off some early leather in his voice and sang with expressive warmth. Surrounded by so many powerful voices, he sounded gentle and carved out space for himself with his phrasing, which was musical in the extreme. On paper, the naïve faith that Porgy has in Bess, and the simplicity and seriousness of his determination to follow her to New York and find her there, seem nearly ridiculous, but Owens made them more than believable, he made them logical.

Like Owens, Blue used her voice to give life to a complex and difficult character. Everything about her singing was transformational, from her blunt means in her first appearance, with Crown, to the way she softened and lengthened her legato as she took to Porgy—the duet “Bess, You Is My Woman Now” was gorgeous, and her compulsion to return to Crown after the picnic was just as real. Ipcam monitor. Near the end, holding the now-dead Clara’s baby, her “Summertime” took on a whole new meaning through its utter clarity.

Tenor Frederick Ballentine debuted at the house at Sportin’ Life, and was excellent. His singing was clear and youthful, and he slid and danced around the stage with the attractive charisma of the most compelling and realistic villains.

As Serena, Moore nearly stole the show. The spiritual “Gone, Gone, Gone” that the chorus sings over Robbins’ (tenor Chauncey Packer, making his own Met debut and doubling as Crab Man) is one of the most moving episodes in the opera. But Moore’s singing of “My Man’s Gone Now,” was stunning—sonically beautiful while full of bitter, wrenching sorrow. When she sang “Oh, Doctor Jesus” to cure Bess’ fever, the entire house held its collective breath. When her character collapsed in grief on stage, Moore received an extended, roaring ovation from the audience. Even conductor David Robinson applauded from the pit.

That was not even all of the great singing. Every role was terrific, and one of the very finest musical passages was soprano Leah Hawkins, singing the Strawberry Woman’s song. Barely a minute and a half of music, she stopped the show.

The sets, designed by Michael Yeargan, and Donald Holder’s lighting design worked together with subtle and intelligent means. Catfish Row was built as an exposed superstructure, spartan rooms lofted above a courtyard and the flooding ocean. Holder’s shades and the turning stage created a flow of changing times of day, weather, and seasons. There was no noticing the mechanism by which any of this worked, one felt the effect.

At the beginning and in the end, there is Gershwin’s wonderful music. While there could have been a touch more jazz to some of the syncopated rhythms, Robertson’s conducting and the MET Orchestra’s playing were as superb as the singing. Dazzling instrumental colors came out of the pit, and the musicians responded directly to the singers.

On top of that, there is the unique experience of having popular and jazz recordings of things like “Summertime” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So” filed away in one’s head, then experiencing them in their original form on the stage.

Porgy And Bess Story Summary

That is, unfortunately, a unique opportunity in this country (Monday night was only the Met’s 55th performance of Porgy and Bess) but one that resonated with a pleasure one won’t find with Verdi or Puccini or Mozart or Wagner. Ip viewer app.

Loved the opera and it was a pleasure to see it in it’s original form at the Met. The house and I was filled with emotion after all the arias. The choreography added to the setting and feelings of Catfish Row. Being a southerner, I totally identified with the period and location. Bravo to The Met and Porgy And Bess!!

This was a very good production indeed, and very well done. One debit was the loss of the ‘Jasbo Brown Blues’ at the very start. But in fairness, a full production without cuts would have gone something close to 4 hours, so something did have to go.

Just saw this “folk “opera” as Gershwin called it and was totally disappointed in the flat production. Voices were cadenced in way not easily understood and it became clear to me that this phenomenal musical should be left on a theater stage where great lyrics and musical can flow. Felt like there was a hood put upon performers and emanating sounds. The characters are drowning instead of rejoicing. Leave the great musicals on the American stage not locked and stifled in operatic form.

This was a performance which riveted one’s attention by its dignity, sincerity, glorious voices and singing. The acting too was superb, the characters absolutely convincing: They came so completely to life that the stage itself was transformed; it became a “Neighbourhood” where the neighbours knew and understood one another intimately.The love of all for what they were engaged in together washed around, flooded out into the auditorium; a great tidal wave that washed back in the applause and cheers of the audience at the end. Met opera can at times seem contrived, extravagant and over-demonstrative. But not this time. It was an explosion of humanity, and one felt grateful to be caught up in it.
