dutchiha:
Not a war. Neji had warned him not to disagree with Hiashi. He changed his words: “A more appropriate word would be-,” Itachi hesitated, “-slaughter. With Konoha unstable, all four Great Nations would’ve seized the opportunity for revenge. I don’t mean to offend. The intel I was given showed The Third’s rule was keeping the clans suspicious, divided, and unprepared. So when The Third put forward his offer… he called it a solution.”
“You underestimate the Hyuuga,” he corrected, and every other Hyuuga in the room straightened, snapped out of their shock, every Hyuuga but the unimpressed Hyuuga Neji.
“I will take this information to the Hokage myself. How to deal with Danzou will be left up to her.” He turned, then threw one last message over his shoulder. “Your whereabouts will remain a secret until I know I can trust her. Who knows how deep that man’s influence is.”

dutchiha:
Three voices. Three people. But impressing them didn’t matter. It was Hiashi he had to convince.
“Danzo-sama himself is my proof,” his voice wouldn’t work. He hated to bring shame on Shisui’s legacy. “He has the Sharingan eye of my my cousin Shisui of the Body Flicker. The Uchiha clan planned a coup against Hiruzen Sarutobi. I was in ANBU, Shisui in ROOT. The departments worked together. We were told a destabilization of Konoha’s power would lead to a continental war. It was decided Shisui would subtly use his Kotoamatsukami power of undeniable commands on my father to persuade him to end the coup d'état plan. In the shadows, Danzo stole his eye. Shisui escaped, gave me his other eye, committed suicide. Kotoamatsukami can only be used once a decade. He wants Shisui’s other eye, too. Then he will cut the waiting time in half.”
Shisui’s chakra had never agreed with him, and it was leaking now. It almost always leaked.
There was not a soul in Konoha who trusted Danzou, not even his own subordinates. Hiashi was already leaning towards believing Itachi’s claims, but, the more he spoke, the less he withheld his trust. It was too elaborate of a story to be made up on the spot, too clumsily explained to be fleshed out in a secret lair. But Itachi had left out one important detail...one that he had confessed with the rest of the story.
“...Your clan was going to start a war...but you stopped them.” Hiashi swallowed thickly. To Itachi’s left, Neji’s lips parted.

No! Please! No part of him had expected this to be easy. He hadn’t expected that it would hurt so much. Every moment was reliving that night.
“It was my father’s dying request I look after him. It was my cousin’s dying request I look after the village. When I die, I have failed them both. Sasuke will return to Konoha for my body. So far my presence has been the only thing that has stopped Shimura Danzo from seizing Sasuke as his breeding stallion for Sharingan eyes for his ROOT operatives – and once he’s Hokage, perhaps for every ninja in Konoha.”
A lot of serious accusations had come out of their prisoner’s mouth and they had left every man in the room shocked, some shifting their feet, one even exclaiming, “What!?” which was met with a raised hand by Hiashi to silence him.
“What proof do you have of all this?”

Itachi didn’t relax in his restraints for a moment, then he forced himself to raise his head. From now on, every word mattered. He didn’t put forward a request for speaking under four eyes. He would have done so with any other person, but Hiashi was a league of his own. He had full control over his clan. Itachi felt awful, but he spoke freely of the secrets he should have taken to the grave:
“I beg of you, please look after my little brother Sasuke. As far as little brothers go… I hope you... that you…” and his voice stopped. At this request the overwhelming acknowledgement set in that he, Uchiha Itachi, he had failed.
Though his burning gaze narrowed, his brow furrowed in confusion. He had summoned him to care for the only Uchiha he had not yet killed? It seemed...odd. Though, he would have proudly fulfilled his request, had it not been for the reality of their situation. “He is as lost to darkness as you are. If he is brought before me, I will turn him over to Ibiki as well.”

dutchiha:
Itachi often had nightmares about facing his clan again, apologizing, always futiliy. He saw those nightmares as fitting stand-in punishment. He didn’t think he would ever have the chance to do it. His soul would surely not go to the Land of Peace. In death he would belong somewhere else, somewhere much darker and more fitting for scum like him.
No apologies this time. Itachi fought his restraints to go lower. If it had been possible, he would have pressed his face against the floorboards so hard the lines in the wood would have etched their pattern in his skin.
“Raise your head. I can’t forgive your sins. No living being can.” The all-seeing eyes of the Hyuuga missed the averted gaze of his nephew as Neji decided he could. Hiashi’s eyes were too busy boring holes into the top of Itachi’s head. “What is it you summoned me for?”

dutchiha:
We were both wrong, Neji. Apparently they were friends after all.
Hiashi had a voice like thunder. Not the rumble in the distance, but the one right above your head, that had such power you felt the sounds in your chest as if the lightning had struck your heart. Itachi instantly was breathless. He hadn’t felt this overshadowed in a long time. Last time… it had been his father.
Itachi bowed down as far as the restraints permitted him. “I’m sorry.” He was.
His words came directly after Itachi’s, yet it seemed as if he had spoken over him, cancelling out the apology. “Your atonement will come with your punishment.” With Itachi’s head bowed, he could see the small boy he had once been, the child he had praised Fugaku for. Itachi had made him a fool; he had made him praise a fellow clan leader’s killer. Those large innocent eyes had only been a facade for something inhuman. Fugaku had loved him so. Hiashi had seen it in those steely eyes. But Itachi had met that love with the edge of his blade. “Once you are with your clan, you can apologize.”

dutchiha:
The click of the door open and then shut was enough to tell him that there were other people inside now. It hadn’t been just one pair of foot steps, but how many? Two people? More? What stood out to him most, was that once the visitors came to a halt, they stood so still. They didn’t shuffle. Their clothing didn’t rustle. They didn’t breathe loudly. They didn’t talk at all. They didn’t make comments about how they had finally captured him. It made Itachi feel as if there a hundred statues in this room. Were they afraid of him, the Uchiha?
Going by Neji’s words, it was more likely they tip-toed around Hiashi. This was enough to warn him. Hiashi of the Hyuuga controlled the room. As a captive, it would be glaringly out of line to seize the first word.
“You use Uchiha Fugaku’s name to summon me.” Clearly, he was offended by the request, his normally frigid tone white hot with anger. “In his name, I should cut out your tongue, but I suspect Morino Ibiki has his own plans for it.”

fire-hearted-father:
If violence ensued as a result of this, Fugaku wouldn’t be able to turn a blind eye to it. He still found himself internally kicking himself for being so intentionally avoidant in the past, doing nothing to help that boy, but he used to tell himself Neji had it better than Hizashi did…and somehow that was—
No. It still wasn’t enough. He’d been in the wrong on this, but that didn’t exactly make Neji blameless, either. In either case, a man’s freedom should have ended the moment it encroached on somebody else’s. Ideally, he would still prefer to keep his distance from that boy, but that didn’t mean he wanted to see any harm come to him either.
Miu was bad news. If there was any chance she had something to do with this, then the most Fugaku could do was ask a branch member or two to keep a watchful eye over the situation and let the KMPF know if things escalated.
But main-on-branch violence never got reported. There wasn’t legally anything the Uchiha Clan could do to stop that kind of behavior. “Oh second thought…?” he repeated, looking at Hiashi a little more astutely.
“I need to know what you’re expecting in this case. I’m prepared to keep my eyes out for anything unusual, but I’d prefer to keep my distance.”
“How many conflicting emotions do you have because of what happened?” Sympathy surfaced in eyes trained to remain emotionless as Hiashi pressed a palm to the Uchiha’s cheek. Still, amusement tugged at his lips. The husband in Fugaku wanted to keep his distance from the teenage homewrecker, to maintain the peace in their relationship, but the officer of the law in him, the man in him, wanted to protect Neji. Hiashi wondered who he would have keeping an eye on the boy already if he weren’t afraid his concern would upset him.
Hiashi shook his head, releasing a quiet sigh. “You’re a good man, Fugaku, and, here I am, hoping someone in my clan has concocted a scheme to hurt my nephew because I would rather that than endure anymore of his revenge. Honestly, what do you see in me?”

fire-hearted-father:
Neji’s mother, Hyūga Miu, had a reputation for being an incapable parent. When Hizashi gave his life in his brother’s place, his widow surrendered her son to the main family for Hiashi to raise. Abandonment. Negligence. Apathy.
‘No wonder he turned out the way he did,’ Fugaku thought morbidly. Anyone with a mother that apathetic was bound to have problems. And in Neji’s case, that meant seeking other kinds of attention from older people.
“Did Miu write him?” Fugaku asked. It honestly wouldn’t surprise him if she did, especially if someone in the main family asked her to do so. It would then become a case of either Neji coming back for revenge…or somebody within the clan wanting to dish it out.
“I hope not,” the clan leader groaned, knowing full well what a letter from Hyuuga Miu to her son would entail. He was in no mood to come to his nephew’s rescue. He was already regretting coming to his rescue, or to the rescue of his father, during his last altercation with another clan member.
But he was also hoping Neji had not returned of his own volition, as that would mean he was in for a different sort of headache. His nephew didn’t hold back when he was seeking revenge. When he saw red, he had no empathy. “On second thought--” he said flatly.

fire-hearted-father:
Sometimes he had to wonder if Taiyō had ever treated Hizashi like this, or if Hiashi was the sole recipient. There were few men the Uchiha head actively hated, but the head of the Hyūga Clan had always been high on that list. He was cold, unfeeling, abusive, and manipulative. That man knew precisely what to say and do to endear himself to his insecure son, only to crush him into submission. Men like that should have never become fathers.
Fugaku bit his lip when he heard those words. At least Taiyō was giving Hiashi a break in lieu of the constant surveillance. At least he wasn’t doing things no father should have ever done to his son. Maybe he was too afraid of being seen and found out to make a move, but he could. At any time, he could.
“The fact is he still could. And if the constant surveillance were to stop, he could pick it up again so easily. Every time I think about it, it infuriates me.”
“I’m sorry,” was all he could offer at the moment. Truly, he owed him that much. After all, Hiashi was an adult, one who could stop his abuse on his own if he were to simply deny his father. It wasn’t as if his father could force him to do something against his will physically. He had outgrown him decades ago. So some of the blame was on his shoulders, he thought, no matter what he would have thought about anyone else in his situation. He was a powerful man. Too powerful to be in such a predicament.
Honestly feeling terrible for what he was putting Fugaku through, he tried to change the subject, brushing his fingers over his hip. “Your clan still knows privacy?” he asked, a telltale sign he wanted to pay him a visit later.

This is what productivity looks like, when I should be learning for my physics exam tomorrow xD
After only drawing the children in the last few pictures, I really wanted to draw those two again and so that happened. Both are visting their late wives graves, possible because it is the anniversary of the first marriage for one of them and the other accompanied him or later came to find his partner?
I’ll leave the details up to you, @byebyebriar
