how many frames per second do you use, usually?
most of the stuff I've animated is on 2s, so 12 fps, thats what my professors taught me to get used to. but I also like animating on 3s (8 fps) for snappier animation that's more focused on the posing than smoothness, if that make sense.
sometimes i do both in the same animation! depends on the action being performed. I tend not to follow any hard rules and will adjust the approach to whatever "feels right"

Please get into rain code. I see your hundred line fanart I think you'd like rain code. Please
I tried watching a playthrough bc it came out right as I was in the throes of animation school but I stopped around the chapter where desuhiko was more of a focus, he was so off-putting I stopped watching LOL.
what I remember was interesting though, but I really am the sort of person that needs to experience something firsthand to really digest it in it's entirety, so that was probably also a contributing factor to me not continuing watching the playthrough.
now that im graduated I have time to play games myself again so I'll probably pick it up on sale, most games by kodaka or uchikoshi will eventually worm their way into my life. I will say, as much as I really admire rui komatsuzaki's work, rain code's art direction certainly hasn't grown on me much. maybe that will change...? we'll see!

Hey Izzie, I have a few questions about art! Could you tell us about composition, line weight and finishing a piece? Thank you!
Hi!! a bit of a difficult to answer question, but I'll try!
usually you want to make sure you lead the eye to the focal point of your drawing successfully. so you're gonna be using a combination of contrast, colour, and lineweight to draw the audiences attention to the places you intend them to. there's also a whole lot of composition rules you can research on but honestly! i most just feel it out rather than strictly follow rules and if something feels off i rely on the "rule of thirds" to help me out.
I don't draw that many pieces with backgrounds but i'll use some of my school assignments as an example
backgrounds are not my strong suit! but here you can see the one-point perspective immediately points you to the window and then your eye drifts outwards from that point to observe the rest of the room. Object closer to the viewer have thicker lines and more colour contrast compared to the objects nearer to the window which have a lighter line colour and also less detail in the linework, and less contrast.
instead of having the window dead in the center, i used the rule of thirds a bit and moved it to the left so the balance was more interesting. theres probably a more in-depth reason as to why it looks nice, but to me it just "feel right". a lot of my drawing is just intuition sometimes, sorry! the intersections of the lines here are about where you should place a focal point when youre composing a scene.
this doesnt just apply to backgrounds either, even drawings of a character against a blank background can benefit from these rules!
as for how i finish pieces... i genuinely just keep drawing until it "feel finished". again... a lot of my drawing process is simply intuition haha ^^; i implore you to do further research and study!
hope that helps at least a little?
