hyojung can't bring herself to lie and promise joosung that she'd remember his as well, so she simply responds with a nod and another smile. the only birthdays she really remembered were her family's and a few close friends. while joosung was lovely to have as company, she wouldn't really call him a friend, so she can't see herself constantly remembering his birthday despite it only being a day apart from hers.
"thinking back on it, i think i usually spent my birthday working. i was probably fliming something or working on something and then getting a cake from my staff members," she says with a hum. "i don't think i'd mind having one big birthday celebration though. you know, renting out a party room and having a bunch of friends over." frankly, she can't say if she has enough friends for that, but it'd be fun to experience at least once. "have you ever had a big birthday celebration?"
"i'll for sure be remembering yours. honestly, i'm surprised i didn't know it already." it had never crossed sung's mind before that he didn't remember the birthdays of idols he was a fan of, that is, unless it was iu. more likely, he spend so much of his brain power on the birthdays of friends. his friends just happened to be a lot of idols nowadays. hyojung happened to not quite be one of them, whether it be due to the idol and fan distance or something else, sung wasn't sure, but this conversation could be the start to building that friendship properly.
"hm, every birthday is special in its own way..." though sung enjoyed the idea of having a birthday party, it was never feasible, so most of his birthdays were spent on, "it's the little things that matter, don't you think? time with people you love, time showing yourself love. are you a big celebration type of person for your birthday?"

Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? How do you deal with failure? What is your most embarrassing memory?
Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
"if i wasn't a part of this industry, i think i'd be more worried about doing the right things. however, with this job comes the pressure that if i don't do things right, i won't have much of a career. so i guess i'm more worried about doing things right."
How do you deal with failure?
"i move on from it after taking whatever i can learn from the experience. there's no need to dwell on something that's already happened. of course, i can't stop myself from kicking my sheets from time to time because of those memories, but they won't stop me from moving on with my life."
What is your most embarrassing memory?
"back when i was a rookie, i remember going on stage without my shoes on. i'm not even sure how it happened, but i recall getting backstage with my slippers on and then taking those off before actually stepping on stage. thankfully, it was for a rehearsal so it wasn't broadcasted."

would you consider yourself a method actor, a classic actor, or neither? if neither, is there a style of acting that resonates with you personally?
"well, i'm not a method actor, that's for sure, so if i had to choose between the two, i guess i'd be closer to a classic actor? but i don't think i do fall into either of those categories. i just try my best to immerse myself into the character i'm playing and try to deliver all those emotions."

how do you feel about the focus on visuals in the kentertainment industry? what do you think of your own benefits of it? 2. if you were forced to become the sudden ceo of one of the big 4 which would you choose and why? 3. what is the worst thing you've ever done?
how do you feel about the focus on visuals in the kentertainment industry? what do you think of your own benefits of it?
"it's almost inevitable, isn't it? considering that this is a job where you're required to grab the attention of people in a span of seconds, it can't be helped. oh, well i think my softer visuals have definitely helped me with some of the roles i've been offered, but i'm not sure if i've benefitted too much from it. there are so many more visually striking people out there."
if you were forced to become the sudden ceo of one of the big 4 which would you choose and why?
"i doubt i'd be very good at the job, but i guess my current company? only because i know it the best at the moment. if i were to go somewhere like culture creative, i think i'd be very lost."
what is the worst thing you've ever done?
"back when angelic was doing like four schedules in a day, i'd hide out in the bathroom or leave the waiting room because i didn't want to get my makeup done first. probably caused some panic with my staff members because i just disappeared."

she didn't expect anybody to approach her as she waited for her manager, so to say that hyojung was surprised by joosung's appearance would be an understatement. however, she did her best to hide her surprise before greeting him with a smile. frankly, she can't remember that much about her former company mate, but it seemed like he always had a smile on his face.
"oh, really?" she asked back with a chuckle. "i didn't know that. i'll be sure to remember your birthday from now on," she comments with a nod. "did you do something special for your birthday this year?" while she didn't expect his company, hyojung doesn't think it'd be bad to have someone to keep her busy as she waited for her manager. it'd be more awkward for her to just be sitting around at her old company. with joosung around, at least it looked like she was here with a purpose.
"ah, hyojung!" sung exclaimed without thinking at the sight of hyojung. honestly, he'd been missing out on any social time recently, so anyone he recognized would have had him excited, but running into hyojung was particularly good timing.
similar to only feeling the slightest twinge of embarrassment at almost yelling, he was able to push down the worry about not approaching her and hurried his steps over to her. "did you know - oh gosh - i just found out about this and i've been dying to tell you." he paused, as if for dramatic effect, but didn't wait long enough for the effect to sink in. "our birthdays are only a day apart. we're almost birthday friends."

"well, i'm not the best with coffee, so i can't comment on that. however, they make a nice vanilla frappe around here, so i guess i agree." with that, she gestures toward the sweet drink she has in front of her. while she's gotten used to the taste of coffee as she usually doesn't have a choice on her drink on set, she'd still much rather drink something sweet over something bitter.
letting out a chuckle, she moved a few things out of the way so suji could comfortably settle into her spot. "i've finally gotten used to my short hair," she comments before giving the ends a short flick. "today's my first day off in a while. the perks of being the main character, right?" she's not complaining, not at all, but it still feels nice to get some time on her own. a breath of fresh air from her stiff filming days.
"how about you? do you have something new planned or are you still on the search?" hyojung phrases it this way because she knows that, at this point, suji's the one people are seeking out. with the way she delivers in every project she works on, there's no doubt that she has scripts being mailed to her very often. "or maybe you're just taking some time off? in which, i don't blame you at all."
suji felt a strange sense of comfort around hyojung. she chalks it up to the fact that she feels no pressure for meaningless small talk or artificial pleasantries in hyojung's presence. instead, their conversations seems to flow naturally — and any silence held between them is oddly comfortable. there's a mutual understanding between them, and it's one suji appreciates. suji considers herself to be a rather solitary creature, and her relationships are few and far between. but friendships as congenial as their's are important in an industry this cold, this vicious — and suji could never take that for granted.
a warm smile settles on her lips as hyojung makes space for to sit down and she accepts it with a grateful hum, settling into the seat across from her. she brings her cup to her lips once she settles in, letting out a sigh of relief at the comforting taste. "even if it was a busy spot, their coffee's worth the risk — but i'd much rather it stay between us."
curiosity creeps in when her gaze lifts to meet hyojung's, and she tilts her head slightly, giving her a small smile as she tears off a small piece of her croissant. "how's filming been treating you?"

despite this having been her company for seven years, it felt weird for hyojung to step back into everlast's building again. maybe it's because she had to practically sneak in so word about angelic coming back wouldn't leak out, but it felt like she was getting stuck somewhere, for the lack of a better term. nevertheless, she was still excited about releasing new music. drive was her attempt at doing something on her own, but she quickly learned that she feels so much better performing with others instead.
her manager has left her to deal with some technical things—he said something about not paying for guest parking—and so she was feeling like a stranger in a building that was once her own. fiddling around with her bag, she let out a sigh as she looked at some of the artists passing by. she could recognize a few of them, but it was hard to put names to faces. this is what she gets for living as an actress for the past three years, huh?
all she could think about was what this next comeback will look like. she was here for the overall briefing anyway, but would they return to their original sound and concept? or would everlast want them working on something retro again? frankly, she was a bigger fan of their original sound and was hoping they'd stick with that, but none of that was ever up to her. nothing ever was at everlast.

do you think you've ever caught the celebrity disease? has there been an incident where you felt like it?
"no. although, i guess some will beg to differ. i just think i've grown up. i debuted at a young age, so i think it's a weird expectation to want me to act like i did back when i first debuted. it has nothing to do with me being a celebrity or gaining popularity. i've just... matured."

what's the biggest lie you've ever told? what is one group you think has worse music than angelic and one that has better music than angelic? if you had to erase one role from your filmography, which would you pick?
what's the biggest lie you've ever told?
"one time, one of my drama directors asked me if i liked their haircut, and i pretty much lied through my teeth. oops."
what is one group you think has worse music than angelic and one that has better music than angelic?
"well, the better music one is easy. i've been vocal about how big of a deep blue fan i am, so i'd pick them. worse? i mean, i guess i don't really listen to eternal's music on my own. if they're playing on the radio, i'll bop my head along, but that's kind of it."
if you had to erase one role from your filmography, which would you pick?
"oh, hmm. where stars land did most poorly, so i guess that one? of course, i adore all the roles i've played, but sometimes even i have a hard time remembering yeoreum."

it's hard to find some time off these days. with the filming of yumi's cells and words of an angelic comeback, hyojung realizes that she most likely won't get some time to relax until the beginning of next year, if even that. which is why she decides to take advantage of the one day that was empty.
she likes to think of this cafe as one that only she knows about. it's a nice place to be because not many people frequent it, which means she doesn't always have to be on the lookout of people who may recognize her. she isn't a superstar of any sort, but there's no denying that she's become more of a recognizable figure in the past few years. nevertheless, she was enjoying her time alone when she spotted a familiar figure walking toward her.
usually, she wouldn't be fond of having her alone time interrupted, but it was suji. someone she appreciated, and there was this silent understanding between people like them. "i thought so too. well, before today i guess," hyojung says with a chuckle before moving some of her items from the table so suji can put her stuff down. "still, it's pretty much just the two of us so neither of us were completely wrong, right?"
a café in hongdae. for @hyoisms.
rings of her phone continue to ricochet off the walls of her apartment, and suji is starting to find it all to be a little too much. it seems as if everyone she's trying to avoid speaking to has chosen today of all days to try and contact her, and it's all starting to feel a little bit suffocating. so, she puts her phone on silent, chucks it into her handbag, and decides to go for a drive in an attempt to clear her mind.
somehow, she finds herself at this quaint little café in hongdae. it's a hole-in-the-wall-spot she discovered months ago, and suji can't really remember how she even came across it the first time. but she knows the coffee's good, and she knows the place doesn't get that busy — making it the perfect choice for her sudden escape.
after a short deliberation, she grabs her order, sweeping her gaze across the café in search of an available table. unsurprisingly, the place isn't that busy — except for one table. what is surprising is that she knows the individual occupying the table, and a gentle smile curls on her lips. she approaches the table quietly, offering a small wave. "hey," she says softly, head tilted curiously as she lowers her mask. "i didn't think anyone else knew about this place."

hyojung can't help but scrunch up her nose at the other's compliment. she wasn't completely sure if chorong was just saying that to make her feel better or if she really meant it. nevertheless, she appreciated her words of support."i'm sure i'll get used to it," she commented before stroking her short hair once more.
this wasn't the first time she's gone through an appearance change, especially considering she was an idol before an actress, but this is probably the shortest her hair has been since her debut, so it'd take some time for her to adjust. "yeah, it is. i've usually gone with the long and wavy hair. you know, to go along with my romantic image." she emphasizes the last part with a chuckle. most of her roles have been pretty cliche, but she's enjoyed it.
"you're probably right. i think right now it's just such a big change that my reflection in the mirror doesn't seem like me." she doesn't mean to quote mulan, but that's how she's been feeling the last few days. "what's the biggest hair change you've ever gone through?" hyojung feels like she's talked—more like complained—long enough, and she was curious to know about the other's experience, especially since she can't recall many different hairstyles on chorong either.
if there is one thing chorong learned early on in her career, is to not get too attached to anything, especially her appearance. her dual occupation as a model and an actress often called for different hair styles and styling. even so, she preferred to keep her hair on the longer side, so she could only empathize with how hyojung was feeling. she had experienced the situation herself twice before. the second time happened a little over a year ago, and she had been growing it back out ever since she finished filming.
what she thought of the new style on the other was positive. even if it wasn’t, she wouldn’t have lied to hyojung. “yeah, i’m nearly certain that you’re seeing it like, five times worse than it is. it cute. i’d even go as far as to say it’s endearing.” chorong gave a small smile, trying to drive home the point. really, she has seen some questionable hair cuts other actors have gotten for roles, and this is no where close to top ten.
seeing hyojung’s reactions causes chorong to ponder. “is this your first time getting a large portion of your hair cut?” she really didn’t know the answer to that. she had typically seen hyojung with longer hair, and hyojung was reminding her of herself when she had her hair cut for the first time in her life. "the 'shock' should wear off after waking up a couple of days and seeing yourself in the mirror. or at least that's how it was for me."

she can't help but chuckle at the way suji explains the situation she's stuck in. an upside of not knowing anything about fashion is also not knowing anybody in the industry. she can't imagine just how suji will be throughout fashion week, considering she probably has dozens of people she's acquainted to. "you should try to sneak your way out," she offers with a little nudge of her elbow, though she's aware it'll most likely be difficult.
"i've started a new drama." hyojung's not aware if the news of her casting has been released yet, so she's a little careful sharing too many details. however, this is also suji's she's talking about, and she's certain the other will understand. "i have extensions on right now, but i've actually cut my hair into something a little longer than a bob," she whispers with another chuckle.
it was weird having extensions in her hair. not that she's never experienced it during her ten years as an idol, but it wasn't something she was very fond of. nevertheless, the company wanted to hide her short hair for any public appearances until the news break, so she'd have to deal with it. "it's nothing too different from my usual works though," she mentions.
"yeah, i can understand that. it's overwhelming — even for me." suji quietly hums her agreement, her eyes briefly scanning the crowded rooftop. though suji knows practically everyone in attendance, she still feels incredibly overwhelmed — wafting through the crowd with a permanent smile engrained on her face was exhausting, and having to engage in superficial conversation after superficial conversation was starting to quickly drain her own social battery. she was never very good at small talk, after all — but to try and wriggle her way out of the conversations here would surely be a terrible look. "getting out at 2 would be a dream. unfortunately, the downside of knowing almost everyone here means a much higher expectation to stick around." she makes a show of rolling her eyes, but a wry smile plays on her lips. "if you do leave early, i'll walk down with you. i could use at least a few minutes away from... this."
she really would love to leave early, but the thought alone has her dreading the chastising she'd receive from adagio if she even tried. she knows she has no other choice but to grin and bear it — even if the superficial conversations and painfully polite smiles are close to absolutely suffocating her.
at hyojung's recommendation, she reaches for a tea cup, teeth chewing at her lip as she contemplates the choices. she eventually settles on a cup of yuja. eyebrows raise slightly at hyojung's comment as she brings the cup to her lips, and she tilts her head curiously, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "filming tomorrow? what project are you working on?"

hyojung doesn't think she left everlast with much sour feelings. or at least that's what she thinks when it comes to the artists. the management was a different story, of course, and she usually wasn't one to complain or whine about her old company as they are the ones who allowed her to debut, but sometimes even she couldn't stop her inner thoughts from escaping her mouth.
that's how her friendship with jean started, but she's soon to appreciate the other's company in ways other than simply badmouthing everlast. "i actually quite enjoyed that show," she whispers because the showroom is awfully quiet now that the show has come to an end. "the thing with fashion is that, most of the times, i don't get it. they look like clothes that can't be worn, but i feel like i could actually wear this collection."
it's the first time she's shown much interest in any of the shows because this one looked normal to her. although she's learned that normal isn't always the best in the fashion world, it's what she liked. "how about you? what did you think of the collection?"

frankly, hyojung wonders if it weren't for her recent success when it came to roles and dramas if she would have been invited to fashion week in the first place. she had never been particularly interested in this world and has never shown interest, nor have they. overall, it was a huge mystery as to what she was doing here to begin with.
"it does feel exhausting. i think, for me, it's because of all these foreign faces around," she points out before pursing her lips together. of course, they're foreign to her as she's not aware of this world, but she doubts that's the case for suji. hyojung wouldn't be surprised if she knew most of the people in this room. "yeah, the coffee was very disappointing. i recommend the tea instead," she advices with a scrunch of her nose before putting down the plate of food in her hand.
with a hum, she gives the other a slight shrug. "wouldn't say enjoying." admittedly, she wasn't having a blast or anything. but she has had worse days, as suji mentioned herself, so she wasn't entirely sure what she was feeling. "i'd like to be out of here once the clock strikes like 2, however. i think that's around when my social battery will run out." with that, she lets out a sigh before looking over at suji and offering her a gentle smile.
"plus, i have filming early next morning, so i'd like to have the rest of the day to myself." while hyojung isn't sure if news of her casting has come out yet, she had begun to film it, and she doubts there's any harm in letting suji know.
fashion week holds much significance for suji. although she has now traded catwalks for the big screen, suji still holds the fashion industry near and dear to her heart. she may be extremely critical of the fashion industry, extremely critical of the experiences she had at an alarmingly young age — but she still views fashion as one of the highest forms of art. it's why she hasn't completely shied away from the industry, despite her shift into a full-time actress. she still religiously attends each and every fashion show she receives an invite to, regularly jumps at the chance to direct campaign films and photoshoots, and is unabashedly vocal in her support for up-and-coming korean designers.
unfortunately, one of her favorite weeks of the year has been soured by the whispers and accusations that now follow her every movement. she finds herself in a state of hyper-vigilance — suddenly overthinking every step she takes, every word she says, wondering if the smile plastered on her face is convincing enough. and if she's being honest? she finds it fucking exhausting.
so, when she stumbles upon a familiar face, she can't help but make a beeline towards her. it's usually uncharacteristic for suji to approach someone else first, but she's desperate for a chance to slip away from pushy reporters and the prying eyes of strangers. quietly approaching the girl, she offers hyojung a gentle, but tired smile, running a nervous hand through her hair.
"i guess i've had worse afternoons? but today feels strangely exhausting," she says with a small shrug, wrinkling her nose at the mention of the unsatisfactory coffee. "i haven't had a chance to try anything yet, but bad coffee? that spoils my appetite." she sighs, shaking her head gently as she turns towards hyojung, offering her another weary smile. "what about you? enjoying yourself?"
