As a teacher, I’ve known lots of kids who are perfectly capable of doing well but haven’t simply because they chose to chat with their friends and not revise before a test instead. Those kids probably do deserve some kind of punishment from their parents. Sometimes it’s not about ability to do well, it’s about an inclination to actually give a shit.
hot flaming take i’m abt to slap you with: it’s not acceptable to punish children for their grades, no matter the circumstances.

You must not realise then that most Americans know fuck all about the rest of the world and quite probably literally thought that China looks like either a communist hellhole or some kind of cyberpunk hallucination. IF they’d even stopped to consider what China might be like other than “enemy of the US - because the government says so”.
So now they’re seeing mundane posts of Chinese people living their lives and being normal humans and living in nice, clean cities that are both familiar to the western eye AND also a lot more modern and better kept than many current western cities (specially American), and they are shocked! “What do you mean, these people are people too and they aren’t all living in squalor or in factory dorms??”
It doesn’t necessarily mean that they are all dumb and/or that they must literally think that no bad thing ever happens in China. It just means that they’re finally realising that they were being fed a lot of US propaganda fear-mongering about China like they are a 80s action movie super villain and not a country made up over a billion people who are mostly completely normal and relatable.
Sorry that China still considers Taiwan part of their country and you are probably, understandably, mad at them for this. But China is hardly the only country making controversial territorial claims these days (the US itself has recently gotten really good at this), so that doesn’t make the entire country irredeemably evil either.
“Our gov lied to us! Look at the content on RedNote! Things are wonderful in China and their people are all living their best lives!”
The fact that you are so (rightfully) deeply suspicious of your own gov but couldn’t seem to apply the same caution when it comes to a totalitarian regime tells me absolutely everything I need to know about you: you’re a gullible idiot.
And before you come at me with your “you’re just a xenophobic white person” nonsense, just know I’m Taiwanese and every single last one of my Chinese friends have been calling you guys clowns and brainwashed idiots for the past 16 hours.
Oh, you don’t see that kind of content on RedNote? It’s because they post those in their private 朋友圈.

Lemme put it this way for the people hating on the “art haters”. If the average person looks at your “super complex and technically impressive art” and only sees one big single colour square, or random chaotic brush strokes in different colours, or any other stereotypical “a toddler could make this art”, then that’s the price you pay for wanting to make art that is so fucking niche that no one who isn’t an absolute expert can even tell if it’s any good.
You can explain the technique or idea behind it all you want, if the literal actual end result is a big blue canvas, then yeah no fucking wonder people won’t be impressed. It’s like saying you perfected the best burger in the entire world, except it looks exactly like a McDonalds burger and no one’s allowed to eat it to test the actual flavour… what do you think people will think? Probably that it’s not that impressive! But at least food allows you to quality test via tasting.
Art like the one above can’t be tested, it’s intended to be subjective and its quality can’t be reliably measured. And that’s kinda meant to be the point. But god forbid the average person with actual bills to pay sees a fucking blue square being called a master piece and thinks that’s bullshit. They must be wrong and the rich asshole who had enough time to kill to create a whole new colour that no one can even tell is new anyway and then get paid a fortune for a blue canvas, he’s the real victim here! Boo hoo.
Tumblr media
abstract and modern art haters are sooo snobby like klein literally Created an entirely new pigment and then painted a canvas in a way where the brush strokes wouldn't be visible. the insinuation that people with no skill could reproduce that is so annoying because unless you are skilled at color mixing and painting you definitely couldn’t lmao

“Don’t wait until the last minute to do your assignments!”
listen. I don’t. But I am always trapped in a vicious cycle.

And the only thing that breaks this cycle is the dread of an imminent deadline

It's gonna be such a funny mess when Donald Trump dies of a stroke on April 1st, 2024.
Naturally everybody will think it's fake because of the date only to lose their minds (both positively and negatively based on their opinion of trump) when realizing it's real
There will be massive celebrations in the streets and on social media and lots of predictable "don't speak ill of the dead" discourse about those celebrations
Weird evangelicals will pull some weird number trick talking about how Jesus was conceived on April 1st and that makes Trump a sort of messiah and people will make fun of that
The Republicans (after they're done with the faux-sadness and faux-outrage) will stomp over each other to be his successor but none of them will succeed. They'll tear each other apart and have no single nominee for the November elections.
There will be discourse about if Biden and the living former presidents should go to his funeral (they won't, he was a traitor insurrectionist)
The Ukraine-Russia War immediately goes in favor of Ukraine as morale in the Kremlin is reduced. China similarly backs off from its threats on Taiwan.
Ten thousand new memes are made, some sticking around for years to come.
Not a month later a bunch of unofficial biographies of Trump hit the bookshelves, many with new details about just how awful he was.

Hamas just released its proposal for a permanent ceasefire. Israel has dismissed all of their proposals as “unrealistic” — and that has been echoed across the U.S. corporate media.
Here are the actual proposals from each side.

Lmao that is so specific to your own context but you’re gonna say it’s a global phenomenon??? In most places in the world chromebooks are not being given to kids in school or anywhere else, they’re literally just such an irrelevant offshoot of laptops. But what most kids DO use everyday globally are smartphones and tablets, and these actually are extremely simplified versions of a laptop that allow you technically infinite access to the internet and games but also completely limits your ability to understand how computers or the internet itself works.
So yeah, smartphones and tablets are to blame for gen Z computer illiteracy. Chromebooks meanwhile might have made an impact in whatever US schools used them instead of regular laptops but their effect is comparatively minimal in the grand scale of things.
We need to lay more blame for "Kids don't know how computers work" at the feet of the people responsible: Google.
Google set out about a decade ago to push their (relatively unpopular) chromebooks by supplying them below-cost to schools for students, explicitly marketing them as being easy to restrict to certain activities, and in the offing, kids have now grown up in walled gardens, on glorified tablets that are designed to monetize and restrict every movement to maximize profit for one of the biggest companies in the world.
Tech literacy didn't mysteriously vanish, it was fucking murdered for profit.

I don’t even understand why people are so confused by today’s young people having less sex than previous generations of young people. Young men cannot maintain an erection unless they’re being incredibly rough and degrading and oftentimes watching a video of another man being much more violent to another woman and young women don’t actually want to be beaten and humiliated and like injured every time they have sex. Our expectations are not compatible

I mean, you could buy a shower curtain on Amazon or you could waste time going in person to a physical store to hope you can find a similarly priced shower curtain of also similarly questionable quality and similar production issues (ie poor working/environmental conditions of the manufacturer), which is clearly just not a win either way. At least on amazon you’re not wasting time and other resources (eg fuel) to go all the way to whatever store(s) you have near you and hoping for the best….
It’s not like the Walmarts and H&Ms of the world are winning any awards for great sustainability and workers rights, and for that matter neither are most “fancier” stores that charge a lot more for similar products without actually providing an improvement in quality or materials.
The system is broken throughout. Yes, Amazon might symbolise all that is wrong with late stage capitalism all in one neat package (haha…), but they didn’t invent fast fashion, unsustainable manufacturing, cost cutting, encouraging consumerism from their customers, etc etc etc. All these issues were around before Amazon and they’re still around if you avoid Amazon altogether. The difference is you’re making your life frankly a lot more inconvenient and probably more expensive by trying to source basic items in other ways. Especially depending on where you live, because I’m in fucking London but shopping here is still not as convenient as in your average American suburb and we can’t even carry large things back with us because we don’t have cars.
In short, yes Amazon is evil but so are most other companies so please people don’t make your lives harder and/or waste money you don’t have to try to find the “world saving” alternative to using Amazon because it objectively just doesn’t exist.
idk why I had to rant about amazon all of a sudden but I just feel like so many people around me buy from it unquestionably and it just blows my mind. people will be like look at this cute thing I got it on amazon and I'm like wow I guess it's cute maybe but also what if you tried to not just look around amazon to find things you can buy would you buy stuff on amazon?? and as this becomes more rampant, we will lose quality manufacturing more. the gap will widen. why do we want that?? we don't want that!! so I get mad cause it feels like people are like wow amazon is so convenient! but all they ever buy are things they wouldn't even want unless they saw it on amazon, and it's usually just not good quality and is so obviously made to sell fast and cheap and it seems so obvious that a fast one is being pulled on them I don't understand why I feel like the only person who sees it sometimes. "I got this cute shower curtain off amazon!" and it's like only interesting cause it's kind of nerdy art you wouldn't typically find at a crate and barrel or w/e and all I can think is I bet that's stolen art printed fast with crap manufacturing and shit materials in china at such a volume no one would ever needed bought wholesale by turnkey companies who just sell it on amazon for 99% profit to 28 year old americans who have been made to feel validation of their prescribed indentity comes from constant consuming because overseas con artist moguls have correctly identified them as marks. so I'm just like, I guess your snail art shower curtain or your nerdy wall decals or your goofy colored plastic plates or whatever is cute and make you happy, but what if you didn't need your shower curtain to be interesting to be happy, and you spent your money on guitar lessons instead
