Eclipse
There is due to be an eclipse in North America tomorrow and some strange things are being written by people about it.  Anyone would think it had never happened before, when it’s a regular astronomical phenomenon. We’ve had a couple in the UK over the last few decades and nothing bad happened, no ending of […] Eclipse

From forest witch to hearth pagan: how my practice changed after moving to the city.
It’s been almost 5 years since I moved into the city, right before the 2020 “isolation period”. Both events ended up shaping my spiritual practice quite a bit, so I wanted to share my experience with you. The call of the forest. My love affair with the forest started during a very hard time in […]From forest witch to hearth pagan: how my practice changed after moving to the city.

Hyrrokkin
Today I wanted to write about Hyrrokkin, a Jötunn often seen as a psychopomp. During Baldr‘s funeral Hyrrokkin was the one who launched the funerary ship. She’s sometimes associated with Hecate at they are both psychopomps that have snakes as one of their symbols. She has a moon of Saturn named after her. A Feast-Day For Loki
For decades now, my Household has marked April 1 as a feast-day for Loki. We didn’t come up with this idea — it was filtering through the Heathen community (the parts that that rightfully venerated Loki) by 2000. Nor is this His only feast day. It is however, lovely day to celebrate Him. Ten for […]A Feast-Day For Loki

Pagan Metal: My Deep Love of Elvenking
Now Playing: Pagan Purity by Elvenking I’m not sure how obvious it is, but I am, in fact, a massive Elvenking fan. Maybe it’s the violin, maybe it’s the fact that they’re pretty Italian elf boys, maybe it’s the folk metal start leading into powerfolk in more recent albums, who knows. Maybe it’s the fact […]Pagan Metal: My Deep Love of Elvenking

Prayer to Erda
So, today we had a 4.7 earthquake in the Bronx. I was driving in when the earthquake occurred, and I didn’t feel it, until I got out of the car. I wouldn’t walk a straight line. It felt like deep in the earth there was a thrumming, a rhythm, a vibration, a movement. It’s only […]Prayer to Erda

From Patria Potestas to Political Influence – The Women of Rome
Introduction[1] The role and status of women in ancient Rome during its heyday (roughly from the late Republic to the early Empire, around the 1st to the 2nd century AD) were complex and varied significantly depending on their social class, wealth, and marital status. Roman society was fundamentally patriarchal, meaning that men held legal and […]From Patria Potestas to Political Influence – The…

St Thecla’s Well
It has been a very long time since I last wrote here. Many things have happened, not the least a pandemic. I have often thought of returning to this blog, but things got in the way. Over the last couple of months, however, my fingers have been itching more. So here I am. While I […]St Thecla’s Well

University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje: Alexander the Great was Greek
“The classical period of Greece ends with the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC. In addition to war and conquest, in the classical period, the Greeks produced great literature, poetry, philosophy, drama, and art. This was the time when the genre of history was first established. Simone’s Series on How to Read the Talmud: On Jewish Diversity
My attention has been brought to a long series on my treatment of Jewish sources in On the Historicity of Jesus by a certain Simone (actual name unknown). The series is extraordinarily long-winded, almost entirely impertinent, and makes strange errors in vocabulary or reading comprehension. But since it will definitely be tl;dr to most folks, […]Simone’s Series on How to Read the Talmud: On…

Simone’s Series on How to Read the Talmud: Boyarin and the Dying Messiah Concept
This is my second and closing article on Simone’s series On Reading the Talmud. For backstory see my first entry, Simone’s Series on How to Read the Talmud: Regarding Jewish Diversity. There I established Simone’s modus operandi as continually misreading what I said, fabricating things to complain about, and compiling dizzying word-walls of pedantic irrelevancy. The 19th Century British Egyptology: A Case Study on Adele Lewis’ “The Heritage of Herodotus”
Writing could influence other people’s ideologies. One must tread carefully with their choice of words. It could create misconceptions if they provided false information or were way too biased about their new profound insights. Adele H. Lewis’ journal article, “The Heritage of Herodotus: Travel and Travel Writing in 19th-Century Britain,” talks about how the narratives […]The 19th Century British…
