i just realised that i accidentally left this sitting in my drafts for two months. but it's part six of cursed scooby textposts nonetheless!

after a long time of waiting and knowing, i recently got officially diagnosed with autism!

however, it’s safe to say that if it wasn’t for the silly little cartoon character above, i may never have made the big steps forward that were opening up to others about my struggles, asking for help, and eventually obtaining said diagnosis.

fred’s portrayal, especially in mystery incorporated of course, taught me that i am always worthy of love and respect — weird interests, strong emotions, awkward communication and all. the confirmation by mitch watson may not have been worded so well, but the fact that this canon representation exists has been more important to me than i can ever express, and i’m sure that this goes for many other neurodivergent scooby doo fans who identify with fred in some way.

so this doodle is just a small, self-indulgent love letter to a character who has helped me so much, and continues to be a huge source of comfort and inspiration in my life. thank you for everything, fred! 💙

Fraphne in 2022? More likely than you’d think

I gave mystery inc. a motorcycle. Cause I can.

And Fred I know canonically has blue eyes… but in the live action Freddy prince jr. Has brown and I like the look. So my Fred has brown eyes.

I worked their original looks a little bit to fit the 60s a tad more. Like the wider sleeves and the high waisted pants for Fred. And the added collar in daphnes dress. Im a fan and I’ll definitely be drawing these two again.

AHH, what can I say about Fraphne that hasn’t already been said in better words?? It’s just 💙💜

Something I have been thinking about lately is (and this extends to the whole Gang really but Fred&Daph just display this w/each other so often) is how much the Gang SEES one another as the best of who they are. There’s a lot of movies and TV shows where Daphne and Fred have arcs handling self-doubt or insecurity or failure and they’re always there to pick each other up because they can cut right through that. Because they see the best of each other.

Fred isn’t sure about his position in the Gang and Daphne’s there to say that she’ll always follow him because he’s a leader to her, she sees that, she knows that about him. She sees the brilliance in him past his eccentricity. And Fred’s trusted Daphne when she didn’t trust herself. He’s not only told her she’s more than the pretty face some people see her as but also that her beauty to him is eternal and ineffable because he sees the beauty of her beyond the surface.

It just makes me 😭🥺 and I love their relationship so much! Thnx for the prompt!!!

Thinking about how Fred and Velma have really become the “loving mysteries for the sake of mysteries” which is interesting to me because if there’s anyone who embodies that for me, it’s Daphne.

Fred likes the structure of mysteries (this is how we do it); Velma likes puzzling out mysteries (what’s really going on). But Daphne has always just been “clue! What does it mean?”

Maybe it’s closer to say Daphne best embodies mystery — she will stick her nose into anything and try to figure out what it means. She’s the kind of amateur sleuth who’d be in a mystery novel.

okay so since the media wants to make scooby doo more mature here’s what i propose

christ give daphne a personality. make HER the leader of the gang. show that she’s really into martial arts, that she’s also a huge mystery nerd. she also doesn’t have to be interested in fashion and makeup all the time. it is not mandatory to her character.

stop implying that velma is?? unattractive? or at least not as attractive as daphne? she doesn’t do makeup so what. she’s a nerd, she’s gorgeous. what a legend. also make her a canon lesbian in every interpretation.

why is it always shaggy who is a school loser and doesn’t really want to be with the gang? he hangs out with the gang not because he has nothing else to do but because he also has a passion for mysteries. he truly LOVES his friends.

you know that fred also has a personality other than being an athlete? hes a strategist, he loves making traps, he loves mysteries, he’s a cheerleader, he’s a huge nerd. why do you still portray him as a jock? also he’s autistic, good for him.

mature ≠ making everything about sexdrugsmurderetc. and why is it so hard to grasp that they’re friends? they’re equally important, they are a team.
